IIRC, fceu outputs fcm movies and fceuX outputs fm2 movies Use whichever emulator you prefer. FceuX is more actively maintained/developed but some users on this forum prefer old-school fceu

One advantage of fm2 is that the movie file is saved in text format. This means that you can open the movie file in a text editor, such as notepad, and edit the input you've recorded.

This is a major improvement, when compared to .fcm's cryptic compression. Go with .fm2, because FCEUX is a lot better and easier to use than FCEU and the key input file is uncompressed..

If you worry about the size, you should know the input files of fm2, being text files, are very compressible when zipped.

to use FCEUX you must use .fm2 and you should be using FCUEX. There is a mountain of new/improved features and bug fixes that come with FCEUX. FCEU is outdated as well as the .fcm format.

Make sure you enable NTFS compression on your NES movie folder, so the FM2 files get compressed. Their size usually shrinks down to 25% of their original size.

I actually compressed my entire Program Files folder and saved a few gigs but you should not compress your WINDOWS folder or any of the files necessary to boot Windows, like NTLDR, your registry hives, or boot.ini, or else you won't even be able to get into Safe Mode; basically anything that loads before the driver that compresses and uncompresses files does should not be compressed.

What were you looking to change, specifically? Because fm2 is a text-based format, it is easy to edit input at any point in the movie (getting it to sync afterward is a different matter which is highly game-dependent).

FCEUX should really put that 7z DLL to use and store movies in fm2.7z files (while allowing both to be read e.g. ROMs) to save space.
