Just an update for my Rad Racer time attack. I would like to say that i have improved my video to what I would call "professional status". I take advantage of all conditions thrown at me, dodging cars and keeping a max 255 km/h for as long as possible and in some cases powering through traffic. I finish all 8 tracks in a barley humanly attainable 24:37 with an ending score of 67,695 points track 1: time remaining 34sec track 2: 35sec track 3: 40sec track 4: 25sec track 5: 31sec ...i dont think this time can be improved ; ) track 6: 17sec track 7: 11sec track 8: 11sec the avi is encoded in DivX i hope thats fine[/b]

When you submit a movie, you submit the actual recording(vmv I think is virtuanes), and there are two encoders(bisqwit and phil) who encode it and publish it themselves, if the movie is commonly agreed to be good. I fear that because you used virtuanes they might not accept the submission(they prefer videos made with famtasia), though I'm not sure what the full story is with that.

Is there anyone who is interested in a Rad Racer Timeattack? I'm planning to do one, but I'm not sure if it will be interesting to watch of the game itself. What do you think?

It might be interesting if you can be as cool as Lucas Barton.

nice movie, the problem is bouncing off the other cars might be interesting but you will lose many speed then and for a timeattack I will need max speed possible. But since the speed of the other cars is different I will still try to bounce one that is faster than at least 240 km/h. But my movie will look almost like the one in your video thats for sure. EDIT: Even better :-)

Oh uh... I was commenting on Lucas' coolness instead of his speedrun's. Go for max speed.

And you need to use savestates a lot more than just between races.

I use savestates between every car bounce about 10 times and between every corner anyway. Already completed 1st course with 45 sec remaining!

I love Rad Racer, heh. It's one of the games I've never been able to beat. :3 I'd watch a Time Attack if it's put into AVI format.

I turn on the music in this order: - course 1 = no music - course 2 = music 1 - course 3 = music 2 - course 4 = music 3 and repeating this 4 steps to the courses 5-8 Completed course 2 with 42 sec remaining, and course 3 with even 53 sec remaining!

I made the biggest mistake I could do during recording: I forgot to backup the fcm file and accidentaly instead replaying it (for testing) I clicked "record movie" and instead clicking on cancell I clicked "OK" very fast without thinking about it like someone have controlled me during that, I can't believe it.. My long time worked out movie in which I already completed 6 courses (only 2 left) is now replaced. Goddamn, 1 click and all the work is lost... Luckyly I had some savestates at the end of course 6 and I just loaded this state during recording and voila it worked. I hoped that the full movie will be playable on this new fcm file I replaced with my old one so I started a run from beginning with speed up. The first 2 courses worked well (I begann to feel relieved) but in the last corner of course 3 comes the shock: The movie goes out of sync and the car crashes in a tree out of the road. Everything from there seems to be lost now. The movie of the original fcm file never desynced no matter if speedup or not... I really wonder about this because the input is always the same in both fcm's but the new one desyncs strangely. Can't understand why. Is there still a way to make the movie staying in sync? I don't want to redo all courses afterwards again. Please help me, I'm so disappointed, how could I do such a stupid thing :-(

Thats bad, happen me one time by my Final Fantasy Adventure Speedrun. I use always Frame Advance (Strg & N with my left hand). So one finger is near the X and in a Boss Fight I hit the X and this close the Emulator (Strg & X = Quit). Deleat my Movie File too. But I have make always backups, so it was not much which I lost. Hope you will find a ways to restore your file. :-(

Thank you guys. I tried the link and canceled the movie at the last point before the desync to enter it as the last backup file. The full movie without canceling I entered as the broken file. This is the messege I got: "Your backup file can not satisfy the requirement of 100 bytes of common context! In fact, this backup file can't help you at all!" I guess my problem is different, since I replaced the whole movie completely. it has nothing to do with a wrong savestate loading. I will experimenting to see what I can do.

I figured out that the desyncing frame depends on what frame I load my last savestate to the new fcm file. For example: If I create new fcm file (record movie) and load my last savestate on frame 0, it desyncs in the last corner of course 3. But if I load the state in frame 100 it desyncs in the middle of course 5. I will serach for the best frame to let the desyncing happen as late as possible. There is hope... EDIT: Found one of the correct frames, now the movie works till end of course 6 (where I stoped before) perfectly without desyncs! Now I can also point out the times: Course 4 - 43 sec remaining Course 5 - 48 sec remaining Course 6 - 39 sec remaining Maybe I will complete the movie tomorrow. Thanks god to save my ass, I did 10 backups now :-)

What is the OGM format? I DLed the file, but neither WMP nor Media Player Cliassic can open it. What's missing here?

the problem has nothing to do with the player. only difference with the usual avi is sound. as explained by Bisqwit, it's no longer mp3 but ogg. it's not included within ffdshow (as far as I know). the Direct Show Ogg Vorbis Filter will do the trick (it's more than just a mere audio codec, I guess, the must some kind of mutiple audio track splitter, that kind of thing), or any pack including the ogg codec. http://tobias.everwicked.com/oggds.htm (yeah I know it's outdated but it works) check links on vorbis (.com) site.

>the problem has nothing to do with the player. only difference with the usual avi is sound. I don't think this is true. I doubt that OGM and MKV are just AVIs which can store ogg files, and that a codec for ogg solves the problem. WMP isn't magically able to read OGM or MGV format because it can decode ogg sound.

I added that the pack isn't just a codec. it includes a mux/demux (vorbis splitter) since ogg can be multi track. just click on th link to have details of what's inside the file. ok, I may have used the wrong vocabulary. for me, "codec" is just the file you get and you install to be able to read movies/audio encoded with it. actually, it's a pack. for you, "codec" is the specific file within the pack, that just codes/decodes audio. either way, just install it, and it will work with any player. tested on windows media player and media player classic.
