What emulator version/revision are you using? Gens doesn't seem to sync for me on the couple that I have.

I forgot to mention. Disable SRAM before playing the movie. Otherwise the grun will desynch & the game will not run.

Looks fun! Getting the shoes was a great idea. The item boosts were cool too. I think I managed to improve a few frames when grabbing the hook: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1470128748/Puggsy-improvement-at-the-hook.gmv I pressed up to dodge the edge of the cliff with the hook, so that it does not drag so much. It made the downward acceleration faster. It also seems that pressing jump repeatedly increases downward acceleration. Am I right? Moving the hands can also make a high jump, but I don't know whether it's useful anywhere: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/698353753/Puggsy-high-jump-using-item.gmv

Thanks! And nice work at improving the hook! That part was incredibly annoying to get right. You are also mostly right about falling faster by pressing jump. However, you only need to do it once in the air.

Ok. It turns out that you only improved it by one frame. I also did a different strat afterwards, saving 10 more frames. I also improved the first forest level by 13 frames. In total, I saved 24 frames over my previous WIP. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1572061098/Puggsy%20TAS.gmv You seem to be doing a lot of work for this run Aqfaq. Would you like to co-author with me on this?

Thanks, I'd like to, but I'm not sure how much I can contribute right now. I enjoy the game though, so I'll try to test some ideas and follow your progress, at least. Good job with the hook throwing, by the way. Looking forward to the next update!

You could try & improve areas that might be unoptimal in any of my WIPs. The addresses are on the 1st page (Note: You need BOTH X Speed addresses listed because they both function differently.) If anybody else wants to help, feel free! This game is very hex-friendl, so it should be easy to synch up. WIP I wasnt expecting to finish this puzzle so easily. Kinda scary really.

Second Boss Down I also made some improvements to the other levels. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1750085356/spliced-Puggsy%20TAS%20-%20Copy.gmv However, It desynchs at the puzzle since the physics seem to have slightly changed. Unless the puzzle gets improved, I might mot be able to hex this improvement in.

Aqfaq, Thanks to your wall climbing trick, I was able to save tremendous time off of Equinox's run. Amazing. Also, Heres an encode of the current WIP for viewing pleasure: Link to video As of now im currently 3787 frames ahead of Equinox's fastest run.

That is a lot of frames saved. I have to watch this. Edit: Watched now. Nice WIP. Hopefully you produce the full run soon. :) Will be intreresting. How much does the wall climb save? Cheers

Thanks Highness! The trick only saves about 8 seconds. However, that was just enough to make me 1 minute ahead. Anyways: Progress 4778 frames saved now. I really hope I could find a co-author on this soon. The physics are very hard to optimize with only me. :(

Progress I finished Badger Mill, and came out with 5130 frames saved now. I'm still looking for a co-author also willing to TAS this. Like I said its very hard and I probably missed some optimizations a while back.

Im now officially halfway done with Puggsy! Amazing Im now 6233 frames ahead. Its amazing how the climb trick Aqfaq discovered could completely decimate stages. XD

Very nice. What do you expect your final time to be?

Improvement at the hook again, 8 frames faster: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/535283625/Puggsy-flying.gmv You're gonna love this, because now you can get anywhere you want! Puggsy can fly! EDIT: Here are three more improvements, not optimized: Not sure about this one, but maybe you can throw the axe earlier and then throw the box so that it gives a little boost to the axe: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1084463066/Puggsy-axe-improvement.gmv Not sure about this one either, but it seems to save a few frames. Throw an apple under the key, so that the key gets a little boost: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1016966775/Puggsy-key-improvement.gmv Finally, a big improvement that skips almost the whole level where you move the black object in the maze: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1380316087/Puggsy-big-improvement.gmv The shoes are lost in the last one, so maybe it would be better not to throw the remote control to the switch. EDIT: Level 1 improved by 35 frames, I think: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1895191228/Puggsy-level1.gmv You get a little boost every time you throw and re-grab an item. It saves time EVERYWHERE, so basically you need to redo EVERYTHING, if you want the TAS to be optimal. I'm sorry. :)

Woah. Nice improvements. Its a shame that i'll have to redo everything. Hopefully, the bosses can still be hexed in. Also, About grabbing. Its nice that it saves time, but im afraid that it might make the run more boring with the constant grabbing sound. I'd like more feedback from users on this. Otherwise, great job!

Yes, it is. I'm sorry I didn't find the trick earlier.

Luckily, with the shoes on, you need to make less throws, because your speed is so fast and the thrown item accelerates slowly, so you need to wait longer before grabbing the item again. It will be only a few throws per second. But it is true that with no shoes, you need to throw more often, and the sound can get irritating. I still think the movie has many awesome aspects in it, so the sound is a minor issue. It might be useful to monitor the item velocity RAM address too, because then you can easily see when the item has enough speed that grabbing it is worth it. There is probably an optimal constant pattern for throwing and grabbing anyway, so hopefully, when you find the pattern and get accustomed to it, TASing the game will be as easy as it was before. It may even be easier than before, because you can now jump over everything. Can't wait to vote YES on this!

So heres the first few levels again but this time with the grabbing trick. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/334758825/Puggsy%20TAS.gmv This is 146 frames faster than the previous WIP.

Wow, so many levels done already! At the first glance, some of it didn't look as I had imagined, so I tried to improve it only to find out that everything was very well TASed! I almost gave up, but suddenly the hook level ended 1 frame earlier: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/863821802/Puggsy-1frame-saved.gmv I guess I got some speed from the bouncing barrel? Maybe more frames can be saved there? Oh, on frame 2973, why was your speed -1 instead of -2? By the way, thanks for the appreciation! :)

wtf is that thing? Also, this game stole the sound effects from every Taz game ever.

Woah! Nice save there. And yes, it was because your got a speed boost from the barrel. I tried to beat this but havent been able to do so.
Oh, on frame 2973, why was your speed -1 instead of -2?
The speed in this game doesnt really make much sense. Usually it goes to -1 when im plainly walking on the sand since it pushes me up every few steps. This is also why I jump a lot on the sand. Gut sometiones it also goes to -1 when im just on flat ground. Not sure why.
By the way, thanks for the appreciation! :)
No problem dude.

So I made several improvements to the run & got it synched. I havent checked how much of the run synchs, but the really hard puzzle synched and thats all im happy about at the moment. Progress Its about 6 seconds faster then the previous WIP. Also RT-55J, The final time should be somewhere around 20:30. However, with these big improvements, It might be sub-20:00!
