I'm glad to submit the movie I've been working on for a year. I would always like to make a perfect SMB_warpless run, and now, here it is!
This is an improvement over my last movie, but while I was fighting for this, adelikat, klmz, and andrewg had finished their movie, so, it's also an improvement over the SMB_Warpless movie #1331.

This movie I made is:

  • 167 frames faster than movie #1331; 316 frames faster than my last movie
  • Emulator: FEC Ultra 0.98.28 (I transformed the .fcm movie into .fm2 lately)
  • Uses no warps
  • Aims for fastest time (even in every level)
  • Almost UNBREAKABLE
  • Quite MORE entertaining

Here are the results of comparing this movie with my last movie:

1-1 3 frames faster, 0 frame saved It's so close, but there's nothing we can do about it
1-2 3 frames faster, 0 frame saved
1-3 3 frames faster, 0 frame saved
1-4 0 frame faster, 0 frame saved
2-1 84 frames faster, 105 frames saved Canceling the "Vine glitch" with the new tricks.
2-2 9 frames faster, 0 frame saved Better start, 100% kills.
2-3 0 frame faster, 0 frame saved 100% kills + 100% coins.
2-4 0 frame faster, 0 frame saved
3-1 89 frames faster, 105 frames saved Also canceling the "Vine glitch".
3-2 16 frames faster, 21 frames saved By better treading action, I thought it couldn't save time.
3-3 1 frame faster, 0 frame saved By jumping into the ground on a lift, it couldn't save any time.
3-4 3 frames faster, 21 frames saved By better run.
4-1 0 frame faster, 0 frame saved
4-2 0 frame faster, 0 frame saved
4-3 0 frame faster, 0 frame saved
4-4 4 frames faster, 0 frame saved By better jumping into the wall and going through the Fire Bar, you can't get 1 more frame faster.
5-1 1 frame faster, 0 frame saved I tried to use the Bullet Bill glitch, but it didn't work.
5-2 1 frame faster, 0 frame saved The "Vine glitch" can't be used here.
5-3 0 frame faster, 0 frame saved
5-4 0 frame faster, 0 frame saved
6-1 0 frame faster, 0 frame saved
6-2 54 frames faster, 63 frames saved I didn't cancel the "Vine glitch" here, but I changed a little.
6-3 1 frame faster, 0 frame saved
6-4 0 frame faster, 0 frame saved I tried everything to get that 1 lost frame at the boss fight, but I had to give it up.
7-1 1 frame faster, 0 frame saved Keeping the Bullet Bill glitch.
7-2 8 frames faster, 0 frame saved
7-3 0 frame faster, 0 frame saved 100% kills + 100% coins.
7-4 1 frame faster, 0 frame saved
8-1 1 frame faster, 0 frame saved
8-2 2 frames faster, 0 frame saved
8-3 0 frame faster, 0 frame saved
8-4 1 frame faster, 1 frame saved By using the trick that's found by klmz.

New tricks:

There are 3 new tricks represented in this movie. All of them were found by me - HappyLee.
  • The "Shell glitch" (near the pole)
    • Koopa Troopas can be useful in the end, just like Bullet Bills. It's a very cool trick to me :)
      • Used in 3-1, 6-2
  • Koopa Paratroopas flying backwards
    • Those are very odd phenomenons, most people didn't know how to use it, well, I did. I steped on that Koopa Paratroopa and went through the ground. At first, I had to stamp that Koopa Paratroopa for 3 times, and then steped on the moving shell to go through the ground, until I found this "Koopa Paratroopas flying backwards" trick, it saved 21 more frames.
      • Used in 2-1, couldn't be used in 6-2
  • Jumping into the ground (before the pole)
    • This trick isn't new, I used it in 3-2 before, but it has been used in a different way in this movie, exceptionally in 3-3, although it saved nothing.
      • Used in 2-1, 3-2, 3-3, couldn't be used in 1-3, 5-3
I'm Chinese, I couldn't speak English well, so someone please give those tricks better names, thank you. And one more thing I'd like to say, the "Vine glitch" in movie #1331 wasn't found by us, someone had already found it for a lone time, I found it, too. I didn't used it because I know there're ways a lot faster than using the "Vine glitch", and I didn't finish this movie as soon as I can, because I'd like to make it better, and I am not going to talk on the TASVideos discussion board until now. So, I guess this is not a frame war anymore, it's about hard-working guys who made progress.

Thanks to:

GAP(a Chinese player), who've been encouraging me for a long time.
klmz, who helped me solve several questions and agreed to cooperate with me.
andrewg, who wanted to work with me on this project together.
adelikat, who tought me to write this Submission text.
If you find some ways to improve this movie - who ever you are, please come and cooperate with me, thank you.
Here goes the snaps! I hope you like them!

adelikat: Accepting as an improvement to the published movie.

Raiscan: Processing.

I don't understand the deal with _slowing down_ by entering the top of a pipe for a moment (2-1, 3-1). What's going on?
Wow! Bisqwit! You came back!

I'll try to answer the questions people have: The screen scrolling in 2-1 and 3-1 is done so that he can hit the turtles earlier as he is farther right on the screen, sets things up that would normally be impossible.

What exactly happened in 8-4 with the shaded/dark ground? Was that an encoding issue or a graphical glitch?
I don't remember what you're talking about but I did increase the bottom view by 7 pixels to allow the video to be encoded in h263 (height multiple of 8). So if you're talking about the bottom 7 pixels, that's just nes garbage that isn't supposed to appear on the tv.
When I watch this movie in FCEUX, the shaded/dark ground doesn't appear. It must be because of the encoding.

Thanks, I may not be a good TASer, but I know SMB much.
I would think this DOES make you a good TASer, just not one with a lot of variety. The best TASes are frequently made by people who learn a game really well to figure out all its tricky details. For example, the Super Metroid no-boss run requires deep technical knowledge of the game to pull it off.
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. From the submission comments:

Not to mention that of the 18 submissions currently on the bench this is the 3rd newest.

What's with the audio in the MKV? It sounds like someone ran it through Speex or something.

It's either a bug with libavcodec's vorbis decoder or the encoder I used. I'll be replacing this and excitebike's audio shortly, but until then I suggest using VLC or something.
<adelikat> I am annoyed at my irc statements ending up in forums & sigs

Would you be able to scroll the screen to catch up to the koopa paratroopa in 5-1 to kick the shell under the block formation and use it on the flagpole, or is that too time-consuming or impossible?

It's impossible, I've tried everything you can think or something that nobody has ever thought about.

Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.
