This is a sidestroller, speedwalk, or whatever you want to call it.
It's 11 frames faster than andrewg and adelikat's Submission #2353, 22 frames faster than my last movie Submission #2348, and 190 frames faster than my published run.
List of all my improvements:
Getting a mushroom in 8-2
Doing a bullet bill glitch in 8-3
Using a special skill in 8-4 (no one has ever named it before)
About that unknown skill, my English is not good, please name it for me. I got the idea before I saw andrewg and adelikat's Submission #2353, it's one of my original skill. It only can be use here, and it really works. It's a small bug that sometimes happends, I don't know why, but it made Mario walk on the ground with no movement. I found it about 5 months ago, but never used it before.
I think, this is a perfect improvement, it's the best I can do. I'm using my FINAL device, to adelikat, andrewg and klmz, and people who have interests on SMB just like me, please forgive me this time. I hope this can STOP the crazy frame war, I'm really tired.

adelikat: Looks like the frame war is over and Happy Lee is the winner. Congrats, accepting this for publication.
Also, replacing submission file with a .fm2
Also, processing.

I conceded. However, klmz, andrewg, and KirgQQ haven't given up. In particular read KirkQQ's post. There are two potential strats in there that might could save time.

I'm not so much in it for the competition as I am in the potential of the game. I love to see all of these unexpected improvements. It's a bit strange to me that HappyLee isn't enjoying it. I don't understand why you'd continue if you don't like doing it. I mean This is a rather silly "record" anyhow. I don't have anything against you HappyLee, it's just that I like searching for improvements (esp. on games I know very well). EDIT: I'm actually considering not even looking for improvements now, just because of how upset HappyLee seems to be getting over this. :/

It's a weird site-related glitch, I think. If you download both files and open them in FCEU, HL's submission is actually 11 frames faster. EDIT: Oh, and entertainment-wise, I watched both submissions and found them both to be stylistically superior in different aspects, but I have to say this one wins out. And is there any reason why input ends at touching the axe, rather than the earliest frame where the game can still complete itself? Theoretically, if I submitted a movie that was faster simply because it ended input earlier, would it be accepted? Or would I have to find another improvement on top of that?

Heh, and just like that HappyLee makes another strong blow in this war. Anyway, that walking in place thing was sweet. Yes vote (again)

This new trick wins every style point in the book right now. Very awesome! It's nice to see a frame war produce a new glitch. Yes vote indeed.
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. EDIT2: To explain this a little better: 1.5 camera units/1 frame walking 0.5 camera units/1 frame moonwalking Traversing the same distance twice walking (0.75 camera units per one frame walking back and forth, if that makes sense) is 1.5 times faster the scrolling the camera by moonwalking (not counting time it takes to turn around.)
If the moonwalk scrolling glitch was done on the pipe right as he got there, Mario would have to travel no distance after that point. He would have to moonwalk in place until the camera scrolled far enough to the right (which would be half the distance traveled while walking normally). If the moonwalk camera scrolling occurs at 2/3s the speed of walking camera scrolling, then moonwalking would take less time correct? A bit confusing, but I think it makes sense. I'd like to test it out. EDIT: I might have this a bit wrong. I'm a bit confused now heh. It would just be easier to test it out.

HappyLee, it is sort of upsetting that you are more concerned with the record than the fact that you discovered a brand new trick in a 20+ year old game, that has been played to death. Seriously, while the records may come and go, you are known as the originator of this trick. You should be really happy with that. Also, this trick would have never been discovered had it not been for this cool frame war.

For the record, I'd like to say that there is nothing wrong with obtaining records. Is that way of thinking synonym with being greedy or something similar? Perhaps, but for me, it means being competitive and having a desire to stay top of the world. I'd say we are no different than athletes trying to push various athletic records.

I'd love to see athletes exploit Earth's physics glitches. Like, maybe running backwards and jumping a lot is the quickest way to beat the 100m-dash. :P But seriously, this submission is awesome!

I think you missed the point. People were pointing out that HappyLee was upset with adelikat being competitive, which I believe goes against what you said.

This makes me want to make an smb glitch compilation video. I know a LOT of glitches... I think I know maybe 70+ smb glitches total. I should definitely do that. If I made a video of a bunch of fm2s, could they all be spliced together into one video?

I don't know about splicing them into a big fm2, but you could definitely splice them into an avi/mkv. I would be happy to help with that, actually, as that sounds like a promising idea :)

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/901142291/mario%20death5.fcm hehe... That's just an example of the type of things you'd see. I just think it would be a really cool idea and I'd really like to continue to work on a project like this. :D This should really be discussed elsewhere, but I think doing this could help in the optimization of different things possibly. With a compilation of nearly all the glitches in one video it could give several ideas for ways to improve smb runs.

I don't find these walkathons very entertaining but there sure was a lot of skill. Meh.

Congratulations HappyLee. I tried everything I could think based on variations on the previous runs for the 1-2 pipe and the 8-4 pipe and could not see any way to beat you. The fish can't spawn fast enough to get in the pipe any faster. I concede. Yes vote. Also, can we use this as an opportunity to standardize the timing issues. It's going to be quite confusing if this movie gets obsoleted by a movie that appears to be slower than it. Perhaps we should just convert the movie to an fm2 and update the submission so the timing is consistent.
