I sincerly doubt he would have settled with the Chandler family for the ~$20 million dollars unless they had something on him.
To add to that if some rich guy attempted to kill me and then offered $20 million not to bring him to trial. I would certainly not take it, despite how life changing it would be to me, and perhaps only a make a small dent to his fortune. It would probably save a hell of a lot in the long term given all the expensive legal costs and damage to his repuation he would have to go through and with the prospect of facing a long jail sentence.
I've never seen this much coverage on anybody's memorial service, like, ever.
