I just played through this game for the first time (on emulator, since I don't have a DS) and let me tell you: it's not very fun and this will be a shitty TAS. That makes me sad, because I enjoy the whole Mario RPG series (in all its various incarnations). Too many cut scenes. Dumbed-down puzzles. Completely linear dungeons. There's not even "magic" in this one, being replaced instead with "bros items". Like the first Mario & Luigi (and to some extent the other Mario RPG games) pretty much every attack is dodge-able. I certainly exploited this in my play through, not increasing my hp/defense at all in lieu of power and speed. Plus there's a badge that ludicrously increases your power when your hp is less than 1/4 full, which for most of the end bosses makes "OHKO"'s possible. Unfortunately on the last boss, your HP is inexplicably refilled and my defense was so low that all her attacks insta-killed me, so I couldn't really get down low enough to increase my power, so this fight was aggravatingly long. Anyways, the game does play through on emulator (unlike the first Mario & Luigi?) but I'm not sure I could sit through a 5 hour+ run comprised mainly of cut scenes. I'm looking forward to trying the next sequel though once it gets released in English :) PS I added a poll because it allowed me to? Is that a bug or a random elevation of my forum powers or something?

Oh, that game. I remember buying it, opening the package and... Well I haven't played it yet and I bought it when it was brand new. The prequel was sweet though(but to easy). EDIT: loads of grammar mistakes

I prefer Super Paper Mario over this game. Probably the most disappointing sequel I ever wanted to play.

Seemed like every boss was just spamming multihit bros moves. I felt like a robot.

I hated Partners in Time, such a crappy sequel. I hated the absence of a true overworld, it just felt like going from dungeon to dungeon, the babies kept crying all the time, and mario's run anim when not carrying a baby was fucking terrible. Using items instead of bro attacks was a terrible idea too.

You pretty much summarized my feelings towards this game. I also don't think it would make for a great TAS.
unlike the first Mario & Luigi?
You can actually play through the game with the latest versions of VBA, but it has terrible emulation lag and sprite-flickering.

Partners in Time wasn't terrible, in fact, I thought it was very good. I actually liked the bros. items and the bosses were pretty creative in their own way. Musics not bad either, I also like the puzzles.

Sure, it isn't as great as the original. But it still is a decent sequel. Although Mario RPG3 blows this one away.

Ok, fixed the "bug" that allowed you to create the poll. I also disabled voting on the poll, sorry. So the results are in, the poll was officially lame! ;)
It's hard to look this good. My TAS projects

I currently want to do a run of this since it's a nice game. But I don't know if I should post my wips here, or create another thread. So what should I do?

I tried playing this game by emulator little under a year ago by emulator. The game is so boring it made me want to puke. I'm scared to get Bowser's Inside Story, because I don't know if the game is worth it.

Super Paper Mario was a major disappointment. A major, major disappointment. I wouldn't watch a TAS for this game, or Super Paper Mario, because both are going to be majorly boring. Majorly, majorly boring.

You found it boring? I found it to be incredibly frustrating because I kept dying from well....Almost every boss in the game(I still die sometimes). That's why I want to try to TAS it; to make a game like this look easy. Anyway, should I post wips here, or create another thread?

That's funny, I found the bosses to be easy, except the last one... Go ahead and post WIP's in here, no reason to make a new thread. I'll probably watch them even though I didn't like the game :)

Well, this is the thread for this particular game, so you may as well post the WIPs here.

It seems that LUCKY! hits are mostly determined by the bro's statche points, which sucks because that means that I can't really mainipulate it to appear more frequently, just when does it happens during battle. So, I think I'll focus on raising Pow and neglect the other the stats. Also, I found the addresses for all the bro's stats and the enemy's hp.

Omg! I just found out that my run is slower than LightBlueYoshi's! To be exact, every part that showed him using Toad as a boost. ...... Why didn't I thought of that? ...... Oh well, time to restart the run! ..... Edit: Well, that was a waste of time. I gained 10 frames...... just to lose 30+ frames due to lag ._. I guess I can't Toad boost anymore....

Do you have the addresses for the Bros movement? Maybe that can help explore ways to get boosts. I agree that you should work on POW instead of stache. If you do only stache, I believe your Lucky hits would be doing around the same damage as when you do only POW. Maximizing POW for all Bros while getting Lucky hits every so often is probably best, in my opinion.

No, boosting stache would only make sense if used to get more money when it comes to selling items or buying. But unlike Superstar Saga you have plenty of items on your way and hardly buy anything. I don't know if there are good items to purchase though... boosting stache only to increase the frequency or power of lucky hits doesn't sound good.

Will this trick be included? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OLZVnCNTEig&feature=channel How much time would it save?

I'm pretty sure it's useless like what LightBlueYoshi said. That's because this skips several important techniques that you need in order to continue.

That was a waste of time.... Until this morning when I've changed my route a bit so that it saved 4 frames!! =D

After some testing, I conclude that: Risk Badge > Dire-Pow Badge > Pow-peak Badge > Hit-Pow Badge/ Big-Pow Badge So therefore, I am going to buy 2 Dire-Pow Badges and 2 Risk badges because it doesn't seem that the badge's effects stack, so giving them to the Babies only seem nessesary if they are going to battle.

After some testing, I discovered that to do the most damage with Bro's/Ice Flowers, Press the bro's button once every 6 frames. When the flower sithes to another bro, wait for 2 extra frames before firing. That would result in the most damage done in the fastest possible time. It's actually faster than Turbo.
