EDIT: I've been told that there was only a PAL version. Ill have to start all over!
There were no region lockouts between European master systems and US ones. So that PAL cart could (and would) play fine on a US master system, where it would run at 60FPS instead of 50. Additionally, the Game Gear version was released in the US, and I do not know of any version differences between the SMS and Game Gear versions except for display resolution.
Actually, in the Master System version, there are spikes right underneath Mecha Green Hill Zone's Boss.
Why, oh, why do I even <i>try</i> to understand my own species?

Some songs and some palettes, nothing that should affect a TAS. I didn't know about the spikes pointed out by N. Harmonik, though.

Well in my confusion, I decided I would make 2 seperate runs. One on NTSC and one on PAL. New WIP on PAL: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/370981166/Sonic%20Chaos%20100%25%20(PAL).mmv The thing i'm worried about though is the speed calculation time. EDIT: Turns out, the speed calculation is faster in the PAL version making the PAL version from 189 to 320 frames faster!

Did you set it to PAL?

Yes, and even if I set the movie to "pal" before the movie starts, it changes back to NSTC again.

Remember that PAL is 50 frames per second, where NTSC is 60, so depending on how long the speed calculation takes in NTSC, that "189 to 320 frames faster" may actually mean "exactly the same speed".

Did you start the movie then when it paused change it to PAL? Other than that, I dont know the problem.

Well, it was 139 frames faster when Sonic touched the flagpole in PAL. Then it was 320 frames faster when the black screen first showed up after the tally screen. But Ill see later.

Not to belabor the point, but you cannot compare frame counts directly between NTSC and PAL. You need to take the framecount in NTSC and divide by 60 to get seconds, and then take the PAL framecount and divide by 50. Then you are comparing apples to apples...

I dont know the problem then. But have a relief because I'm switching back to NTSC! Turns out NTSC was actually faster by 3 seconds.

Looks good so far :D I can't wait to see the finished version of this :) Also, Sonikkustar, let me know if you'd like to get an encode of your WIPs, I'm up for that. Though I won't make encodes without permission.

Hey guys, I'm back from my 3 weeks of torture! Now that I got actual footage of the glitch, I can investigate to see how I do it! If you want to help, here is the Dega file (Contains a more optimized start of Act 3!): http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1308093914/Sonic%20Chaos%20100%25.mmv Wow, a lot seems to have happened in 3 weeks.

Nice work. You know I'm keeping my eyes on this. Is there anything I can do to help? Unless you prefer to work alone. I don't want to steal your thunder.

Actually, It would be awesome if you could help Nineko! Maybe we could work as like a team or something... BTW, I just figured out that glitch partially. You see, when Sonic is about to be ejected back onto the screen one frame after Sonic was "in the ground", the ejection fails and the game thinks he is already at the right side of the screen. So he just goes off screen like normal except with the abrupt end of the music! I'm not sure about this though so somebody should still check this out. I'm going to a friend's house, So I wont be here for two more days.

One thing, are you sure you want to collect 100 rings in Gigalopolis 1? That zone is extremely straight, it can be speeded through very quickly using the shortcut. Hitting two ring monitors would give you 20 rings that, while not optimal, would result in a decent speed bonus (909). Gigalopolis 2 on the other hand seems perfect for that.

I am pretty sure I would want to get 100 rings in Gigalopolis 1. There are 8 ring boxes which quickly give me 80 rings and on the way to getting the first 5 boxes i get the 20 more I need. Oh and while I'm on the subject, new WIP! http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1059124198/Sonic%20Chaos%20100%25.mmv

I'm looking forward to seeing a run of this as I've tried speedrunning the early levels before (real time). I couldn't get anywhere near the soniccenter times for turquoise 1 and 2, both of which sit at 00:11s. Yours' were at 00:13 and 00:14 respectively...just wondering if I'm missing something as I'd love to see them beaten :-)

Sadly Mukki, your wish cannot be granted. Those runs were on a PAL Master System. On of the players even said is was "Set to PAL mode". But I promise, I'll try not to disappoint! Anyways, progress has been a little slow since I have an evil force called finals coming up.

The gigalopolis 1 route looks strange, but it's understandable. Giving my support
