I'm mapping a game, and I want to change the background color so I can rip some sprites and stuff. The problem is that I can't. I tried using the hex editor to edit the PPU memory address, but it appears that the game likes to reset the color back to normal every non-lag frame. I then tried using the cheat console, but it can't access the PPU memory. I considered using a Lua script, but from what I've read it also suffers from the same problem. So, short of hacking the game, is there anything I can do to rectify this problem? I have considered reconstructing the sprites using the pattern table view, but it would be horrifically tedious. :/

Find gNoBGFillColor in fceux.cfg and change its value to whatever you want from 0 to 255.

Works like a charm! :D EDIT: As long as I'm asking questions... I'm unable to see the frame counter while emulation is paused. How can I correct this?

That is a bug introduced in 2.0.3, there is an interim release floating around that fixes it, otherwise you will have to wait until the next release.
It's hard to look this good. My TAS projects
