Congratulations on your work. I recommend Encoder to encode the video by using Snes9x WIP on googlecode, with Sync Sound on, because sound quality is much better than older version. http://code.google.com/p/snes9x143-rerecording/

Maybe the "average" rating is really the geometric or hyperbolic mean, both of which are closer to the smaller elements in a data set than the arithmetic mean. Of a set {x_1,...,x_n}, here are some means: arithmetic: (x_1+...+x_n)/n geometric: (x_1*...*x_n)^(1/n) harmonic: n/(1/x_1+...+1/x_n) quadratic: sqrt((x_1^2+...+x_n^2)/n), a.k.a. root-mean-square generalized, of order p: (x_1^p+...+x_n^p)^(1/p) For arithmetic, p=1; harmonic, p=-1; quadratic, p=2; geometric, limit as p->0; infimum, limit as p->-infinity; supremum, limit as p->infinity. Also, the generalized mean strictly increases with increasing p as long as the set contains at least two distinct elements; otherwise all of the means equal the unique element. Oh, if you want to generalize the notion of "mean" even more, then if f is continuous and injective on some subset of the real numbers, the generalized f-mean is f^-1((f(x_1)+...+f(x_n))/n), but this does not in general have some desirable properties of a mean, like if you double all the elements on the set you don't necessarily double their mean.

Actually, I believe it's just that the overall rating is 2/3rds entertainment and 1/3rd technical.

Really nice, I liked the use of red essence at the end, was that required, or just for fun?

Bowser and Peach weren't wearing Super Suits, so they would've eaten it to successive Arrow Rains otherwise.

I'm a little ignorant of the specifics, but it looked well done, and some little tidbits of stuff kept me occupied, like how they avoided some of the stuff one normally goes out of their way to get, like the volcano frog coins, but even in the spots I'd watched and done before, there were little surprises, so it kept me interested in tactics.

Of what I have seen in this run so far, I have been quite impressed. Lots of little tricks that an average gamer wouldn't think of. I'll give some more comments when I finish watching (at Boosters Tower right now). Edit: Finished it, and I really enjoyed it. This is actually the first SMRPG run I've watched due to the others intimidating length so older tricks like skipping Mack blew me away. Anyways, the item luck manipulation was also great. 8/9

Watched, was...well...I like the game, but it seems like it's still a "more of the same" TAS. Optimizations and some route fiddling without any serious added tricks from last version 8/9

I was going to say something positive about the improvement, but then I read two posts in this thread that made me fall on the floor laughing. You guys really created a gem here... Immortalized in a screenshot: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v469/drybes/wow.gif "I would go with this" ;)

It's kind of surprising this hasn't been caught already (this being the 4th published run), but when going up to Nimbus Land you can climb a lot faster by jumping up the vines. It saves at least 450 frames and looks more impressive.

Reminds me of that anecdote where NASA spent thousands developing pens that worked in zero gravity, only to realize the Russians used pencils.

That's only partially true. The spending for those zero-gravity pens came from a single employee that was obsessed with the idea, and after spending so much, he sold 5 of those pens to NASA for I think it was 50$. Also, both NASA and Russians used pencils until then, but pencils had to be used with special care because if the tip breaks at zero gravity you get a mess.
No.
