I keep getting desyncs right when gameplay starts while trying to run Metal Gear Solid (European version if that helps). I'm using the standard BIOS on the newest version of PCSX.

The American version of Metal Gear Solid was very tricky to make it sync. Make sure you have the "Movie Sync Mode" checkbox selected in the "TAS SPU Plugin" configuration; if that doesn't help, you'll have to wait until I can get that version of the game and see why it desyncs... I hope by "standard BIOS" you meant the "scph1001.bin" BIOS, because the internal one sucks. :P

That worked!!! It played the movie I just recorded. (I used the version which had that Checkcdrom() thingy). The only problem is that it didn't record the buttons (square, triangle, X and O). I guess that's the input plugin. It did record the arrows and START though.
Ah, great. Well, now I know where not to look at in the source code. Yes, the buttons problem might be related to the PAD plugin. Also, make sure you don't have Analog enabled in its configuration and you're just recording a standard pad or something like that.

Just a quick message to say i could go beyond the "point of no return" in RE3, it seem that option pretty much fix the whole problem, i use nosound plugin and 0.6 I could make replay work, and it seem i have no sync problem so far (i could replay up to after the "point of no return") The game does suffer from lag tough (slow camera angle change and such), but i believe its a emulation issue and not from the tasing system In previous atempts (no magic option turn on, v0.5) it was faster, i guess i have to choose between lag and not working, i prefer lag But anyway, it work !!!! omg what a breath (realy i tryed hard before!) Thanks mz, great work ! Edit: ha, now that im much more farther in the game, im facing some problem looking the same as described by atma, i have a blank frame between some savestates, witch desync some parts of the run, *wonders about retrying with 0.5 and magic option OhO*

X5 problematic convert - I may or may not have already fixed the initial intro desync in this, but if not, I recall that it required adding 1 extra frame before the first button input. Movie referenced with savestates - The movie that I referenced in my earlier post, requires rockman X4. However, the problem is very easy to replicate, at least in terms of the read only bug.

Quick bug report: Trying to autodetect CD reading mode without a disc causes v0.0.7 to crash.

In the next version I will make this option toggleable, this means you'll be able to enable it only when needed (before a door which doesn't normally load) and then quickly disable it, and it will all be recorded in the input file. Probably Bisqwit won't accept this file (because the rules say the movie file should only have user input recorded, and not emulation changes), so you may want to ask him first before submitting it...

Yeah... I was able to replicate it. Thanks a lot for reporting it, I will release v0.0.7 as soon as possible with it fixed.

Not here. :P May be caused by your CD drive, perhaps.

I have no idea if it will help, i know it might sound ridiculous, but i founded (for re3 case...) a workaround Switching to 0.5 didnt solved anything So here what i can observe Depending where im in the room, depending if theres a camera change nearby or monster or whatever, sometime (but at very precise instant, and not others, ie, not random) the savestate will insert that frame, while i save, i cant realy tell (except if i tested room already and know "weak" spot) if its good or not, i move few frame ahead, then i reload After reloading, if the state have the extra frame, when i hit space (next frame), all 3D model disapear !! but just in that frame... on next frame... jill is back here... this mean its bad, i need to reload most recent (clean) state If the state is clean and dont have the extra frame, on next frame jill is here and you notice nothing, that mean its good and you can go ahead I know might sound silly, but so far i went 10'000 frame more than my last attempt, and so far i can always get myself away of trouble if i see jill 3D model disapear (zombie ect... also diseaper) Also i tested many time to see if i was not overlooking the problem, to see if that "empty 3D frame" was realy everytime taking down my movie, and its always killing it so far I still cant say what cause it tough, some load spot or something like that

I'm not getting Metal Gear Solid to sync at all during the game proper, on either version. The VR missions work just fine though, so I assume this means more debugging will have to be done with the cutscenes. Please, mz, try to fix it *begs*

v0.0.7 released! Just a quick update to fix a major bug. Changelog ----------- -Fixed major bug where Read-Only mode wasn't Read-Only at all. Thanks to Atma for reporting it. -Movie file can record two new actions: "Resident Evil 2/3 fix Enable/Disable" and "Parasite Eve 2 fix Enable/Disable". Also, hotkeys for these actions were added. -TAS Video Plugin is now compatible with .kkapture. -"Record Avi..." menu option replaced by "Record AVI Help...", which takes you to a help wiki page on Google Code. -Added "Linuzappz Iso Cdr Driver 1.4" into the archive. -Fixed bug where the frame counter no longer went red to indicate a lag frame. Thanks to Atma for reporting it. !!!IMPORTANT!!!: savesates made with v0.0.6 are no longer compatible with v0.0.7. You will have to make these again while replaying the movie file. Also, I've written a quick tutorial for first-time users: PCSX Quick Tutorial. :P

Bug report: "Start playback" still crashes without a commandline or batch file. And Metal Gear Solid STILL doesn't sync properly >:(

I have some trouble with the new option resident evil (i have 3 version installed now... if that revelant) It seem to act like its disabled even if i checked the box, the lag are shorter I say that because when i disable shengubattle (or whatever the name) in 0.0.5 or 0.0.6 i get the same lag desync than when its activated in 0.0.7

v0.0.7 is completely different now. What you need to do is this: 1. Configure a hotkey for "Resident Evil 2/3 Enable/Disable". 2. Start recording a movie and when you're about to enter a door which doesn't load properly do this: 3. Press that hotkey a few frames before you enter the "buggy" door. It will say "Resident Evil 2/3 Fix will be activated on next frame". 4. Enter that door and, a few frames after the next room has loaded correctly, press that hotkey again. It will say "Resident Evil 2/3 Fix will be deactivated on next frame". 5. Keep recording normally and repeat if you find another door like this one. This way you should be able to run lagless and bugless.

Yeah, I still haven't look into those bugs. I didn't know you were also getting that crash, by the way. It seems it's more serious than I first thought...

Hum, im realy cluless on what to do, i wont redo from scratch at least that sure, i will stick to 0.0.5 i guess, i just aim for a complete run now to have at least a test run Theres is doors 2 or even sometime 3 times per minutes, i will end up enable/disable it nonstop, or just leave it on, witch basicly is the reason i wont restart from scratch, just to activate one key, i prefer the buggy version at least im 1/3 of the run done now (and its third time i do it lol) Also the camera angle lag can appear, hum, like 10 times in the same rooms or more, coupled with door, its realy too much for me to try back and forth with states :D

I'd start over from the beginning if I was you. I don't think it's *that* annoying to press a key just two times everytime you see a door that hangs. The big quality difference might be worthy...

I agree its not annoying on the paper, whats annoying is having to test and crash your file because you saw too late that this door is buggy, and you need to restart a whole block or whatever desync i could ran into, id just like to go to the end of game, its my first tas atempt, i know i will restart anyway, i just want to have at least something i can base myself on for a more "serious" futur run, even if i have to go trough bugs, i have now a near 50'000 frames file and im whilling to finish it I dont even have a real "route" or course of action, i know the game, not "peferctly" but enought to run it, tough i realy need to have some reference if i want to make a "good" run later

Alright, things are set up... Why must Jumping Flash crash whenever it gets to the game? The menus work fine. :( There's also no music; will I need a CD for that or something? For the record, I have it set up mostly based on defaults.

Is it a demand to TAS from ISO or can it be done with a CD-ROM?

Movies should sync with any of them if you're using one of the two default CDR plugins.

I don't have that game, but you can try changing the CPU options, like using "Enable Interpreter CPU" or some of the other fixes. Sometimes they work, most times they do not. :P Most PlayStation emulators I know can't play CDDA music, so probably PCSX doesn't.

That did the trick! *hug* About the only other issue at this point is that my input seems to get stuck quite often; I'll change plugins and see what that does. Edit[/b]: Hm, nevermind. Duddie's didn't even seem to work. :/ (must be that mouse driver thing)

ISO with a corresponding md5 might be preferable in case the disc is scratched or otherwise isn't bit-identical. Otherwise it can become hard to understand what's going on if a movie desyncs.

You need to ask Bisqwit about that (use a PM or on IRC). Be sure to tell him that's the only way this game can work properly on PCSX. I hope he accepts (at least until the new version of pSX is released) because there are a lot of games that need emulation hacks to run properly on PCSX.

I've recorded a few snapshot pxm's of Metal Gear Solid that managed to sync. As a result, I think the reason for desyncing is either the codecs or the lengthier skippable ingame cutscenes.

Okay, first impression go here. So far, not too bad. Things had a somewhat rough start with getting things going (plus I was initially baffled at the multipart .rar files that seem common), but once things got going, it was smooth sailing. I've come away with a better impression than I had with Mupen - perhaps I should give that one a second shot. I did a brief, one-minute test TAS of Punky Skunk, and it synched fine. Good job! Only two issues: 1. The lack of music and FMVs when using ISOs makes me sad. :( I'm also not sure how this will affect my potential submissions. 2. The controls stick. A lot. When they get stuck, it lasts anywhere from 2-20 times longer than I pushed the button. I don't know how to trigger this, and quite frankly, it's starting to get annoying. And one question: How do I start recording a movie from BIOS startup? Is it even possible? Thank you, mz, for making this a reality.
