It may also help to type WinKey+R, then type cmd in the text box and press Enter; then type "at CurrentTime+1min /interactive cmd" without the quotes in the command prompt. When the new command prompt pops up, press Ctrl+Alt+Del to go to Task Manager, switch to the Processes tab, and end the explorer.exe process; then in that newer command prompt type explorer and press Enter to be logged in as SYSTEM, which is more powerful than an administrator and is a lot like root in a Unix-like system.

yeah, the task scheduler... but that greyed out stuff could be some group policy... try winkey+r then gpedit.msc and check (xp pro only)

even better, type "services.msc" in the box and set as many services as you can to Disabled and as many of the rest to Manual, and stop as many as you can; then reboot :v

The address bar works on Vista, but I don't use it. Of course, I am running an underground version of Vista known as Vista Extreme edition.

My favorite is when the fucking program stops asking if you wish to restart now and restarts automatically. How many times must I say "Not now" in a fucking hour?!
You can just move the window offscreen and it'll stop bugging you. Seriously guys, think outside the box
That doesn't prevent it from automatically resetting your computer after X minutes, so it is not really a solution.
I has never resetted automatically when I've moved it to the corner of the screen.

I have this on both of my computers and I have never understood why people are so frustrated with Windows Update. If you don't want it to nag you, don't tell it to install the updates until you're ready to reboot. Problem fucking solved.
Not really. I have had at least two incidents where Windows ignored that setting and had rebooted anyway, and innocently proclaimed that it had rebooted the computer due to some patch or other. (I have set Windows to download, but _not_ install without explicit permission.)

Of course, With the 100% loved Windows Vista you can tell it to postpone nags to up to every 4 hours. <3

Same here. I had to set it to not even download automatically to stop unsolicited rebooting. So far so good...

This concept version of what became Vista would still be an upgrade IMO.

Wow. Talk about unimpressive. The whole time they were flipping through windows like crazy, which led me to believe that it was just random, flashy bullshit that made no sense and had no real purpose. Not to mention a very large amount of picture handling. I would guesstimate ~60% of it was dicking around with pictures for no real reason, other than to show the organizational skillz of a fucking computer!
