I've been working on my Portal Speedrun for a few weeks now. I'm almost done, and just seeing what you guys think of it so far. Its a highly segmented run, but I only tried to segment it when needed because you cannot shoot a portal the second you load from a save, so it can be a waste of time in certain situations. Links a go-go. SDA Topic: http://speeddemosarchive.com/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=pcgames;action=display;num=1192048369 My Speedrun on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/profile_video_blog?user=Transgenic86 The videos were uploaded on a per map basis. I will make a full video and upload it when the run is complete. If you have any questions or better optimizations, please feel free to comment. Thanks!

So far, I have liked all the high-quality Portal speedruns I've seen on Youtube. It is pretty amazing. Makes me want to see what it could be on tool-assisted. EDIT: But this is the first time I see portal entry/placement glitches being used in these speedruns.

Yeah... There were a few people that discovered how to do the glitches. I mainly figured out how to use them effectively. I also found a few glitches of my own. I attempted to go for the highest gameplay quality I could for my segments (no misplaced portals, no movement messups, etc), and, obviously, the lowest time.

I sure did! Followed your process until the later chambers, but apparently I had missed the best part. Good job and clever solutions.

You have clearly been thinking with portals. Cue applause. It was enjoyable. And I seem to make this sound entirely sarcastic, when I really did enjoy it a lot :P I need to watch this movie in frame advance. I can't follow you sometimes. GLaDOS didn't even know what hit her! No deadly neurotoxin, either.

I'm also making a version of this video that includes audio commentary and slowdowns for explanation of some of the tricks used.
I really encourage that... I can't understand some tricks, you are really fast... O_O Damn!! This Speedrun is awesome!! EDIT: 8:00~8:34 is INSANE...

I can't understand why SDA is a little anti-Emulator.But I prefer to make some speedruns(tool-assisted or non-assisted) in Emulator, because it's convenient. The most important reason is that I haven't those hardware:(

The main reason is that they can't prove that you didn't use frame advance or rerecording or any other TAS tools when doing the run. There's a section in the Rules about it.

I'll be making a commentary version that will slowdown or show off different clips explaining the tricks used. It'll also have a 'special' credits song. :-P

Yes this speedrun is definitely the best that has been submitted to SDA in a long time, very good quality all the way through and a very good game to work with in the first place (very entertaining, very fast and lots of possibilities because of the engine and it's glitches). Makes you wonder what a TASer could make of this game with proper tools :)

Well according to this post "frame advance" is already in place. All you need then is arbitrary savestates. Aside from hacking the engine, I was thinking about running it on a virtual machine to create snapshots to revert back to. It is slower than we're used to, but not a terribly long process...

Just to avoid confusion, is this the same run (at least it is the same author)? link Anyway, great run.

Unrelated to this speedrun per se, but related to SDA: Is there a way to order the list of videos by date of publication (of the speedrun)? There's a "sort by release date", but it's the relase date of the *game*, not the speedrun. It's very hard to find recent additions without being able to list by date of publication.

Not until they rewrite the site engine, which is supposed to happen soon, but hasn't happened yet. Also, sorry for making the duplicate thread. I knew there weren't any explicitly recent threads on the matter since it was only published yesterday, and nothing was in the off-topic section either, so I honestly assumed there wasn't one. I suppose it could be merged into the existing one then?

Well, off topic but I did not feel like making another topic for an SDA run. 'Course, feel free to belittle me and chastise me into creating an SDA topic if you have that much of a problem with it. I find the Duke Nukem 3d run hilarious. I have no clue what the hell is going on, and most the time the dude beats a level in under 10 seconds. Also, I find it interesting that Microsoft decided to base their X-box controller off of the "Laser Trip Mine" weapon At least I immediately saw the connection (and patched together a screen shot and a random google picture with the addition of one bubble of text, for everyone else's enjoyment [or hate])
