This is the sequel to Air, by U1, the author of the original. It's almost exactly the same as its predecessor, but with one major change: no infinite jumps. Obviously, this makes the game much, much harder, and most of the solutions in the original are useless in this one. There's a few level changes to accomodate the primary modification and all invisible coin blocks are marked, but the vast majority of the game is exactly the same.
I propose that this should obsolete the current movie of Air, for the following reasons:
  1. The SMB engine is untouched, therefore it works better as a glitch exhibition.
  2. As a side-effect of 1, it looks more impressive, in my opinion.
  3. Since SMB has little to work with for the creation of a playaround but has so many glitches, I would consider this a suitable substitute.
There's not much to say about the actual run that couldn't be found on the SMB tricks page, but a couple of things warrant explanation:
  • In 3-1, I have to take a hit at the beginning to be able to make the subsequent jump into the coin, which allows me to enter the block far enough to start running to the right and into the pipe. There's an alternate route, but it results in simply running across the entire level, which is really boring, especially since I think this level is the most entertaining one to see in action. I also have to take a hit later so 3-2 will sync.
  • The reason I took a hit in 3-1 rather than in the previous stage, 2-2, was because the beginning of 3-1 requires me to be big in order to take the main route.
  • I could not, for the life of me, manipulate Bowser to lurch out of the pathway any quicker, and thus had to wait for a bit. I did all I could to entertain on that little sliver of floor.
Overall, this run turned out much better than I had originally planned (I didn't even start the run with the intention of submitting it). While I think Genisto's run was brilliant, I think this iteration works much better for a run. Enjoy.
P.S.: mencoder doesn't love me anymore, so no YouTube this time around. Sorry.

Well I liked that you found a way to get out of some levels and skip the main route, though I wonder if it would have been more entertaining to actually do the puzzles. Either way, I was entertained throughout.

watched it, and I cant do an other thing than give it a big YES. I will encode it for youtube, I think that there are much people who would love to see this but doesn't has a good Mario NES rom to patch.

another entertaining 0-star run :p It has always bothered me that the existing run was just slow at some points. This looks better.

I dont really see the point in publishing another run of air. This is more entertaining then the last one, but that doesnt automatically make it publish worthy.

Games don't usually get un-published here, though, so if we have an improvement on a game that's already been published, then we may as well publish it. We went all over this a while back when the princess-only run of SMB2 was updated.

Some aspects of the run are better than the published Air run (and I would vote yes on obsoleting Air with Air 2) but you get firecrackers at 2 levels, when you can easily manipulate and not get any. Voting MEH.

Well, if you would read the submission text you'd know that that's not what I'm trying to do.
Games don't usually get un-published here, though, so if we have an improvement on a game that's already been published, then we may as well publish it.
Bionic Commando obsoleted Hitler no Fukkatsu, and for all I know those two had more changes between them than Air and Air 2. Also, the run that was on my YouTube channel is NOT this submission; I've removed it so there's not any confusion.

I vote yes in the context of this being an improvement to a published movie. This is more like a revision of air rather than a sequel. The things about the game that were changed contribute to a more publish-worthy TAS (such as the removal of infinite jumps). In addition, this TAS looks faster and more competent (and therefore more impressive) than the published air movie. I agree with mushroom's choice to do some of the harder strategies rather than run on the top of the level. These speed entertainment tradeoffs made for a better TAS.

I vote no in the context of this replacing Genisto's run. Genisto's run didn't aim for speed, and the invisible blocks in it were just that -- invisible. Genisto's run also demonstrates a mario engine glitch which is impossible to perform in this version of the hack, because of the mid-air jump ability being removed. Also, it is much more entertaining to me to see the puzzles solved than to see the player jump out through the cieling and run across the level.

It is a run of air, and you are trying to get it published. You want it to obsolete an existing run, which as far as I am concerned is not important. I voted no because it was a boaring run of a boaring game. I really dont get why there is so much intrest in air. Of all the hacks of that game that are available, I find that one to be one of the most dull.

I;m sorry... I never did really agree with Air being published.. or even accepted and I still think that's the case here as well.. even if it does look a bit more polished. Seriously.. why all of these "hacks"? Why not focus energy on some worthwhile or underappreciated game? Hacks should be something very difficult to ever be accepted and if accepted, it should be because they are so well done, you'd half expect them to have been commercially available back in the day. [SDW borders on that line a lot, but overall pushes past it enough like the Lost Levels pushed past SMB1... imho] Mr. Kelly R. Flewin

I happen to like the concept of using an old game engine's glitches to create a meticulously designed puzzle game. Instead of merely using tool assistance to take advantage of a game that assumes that human skills are at play, these types of hacks are designed around the very idea of tool-assistance and require it to succeed. It's a "genre" that's very exciting to me. By the way, thanks for watching and commenting, everyone. Also much thanks to S@G for the video.

I didn't agree with the previous movie being published, but I feel this movie would overall make a better choice. As for my favourite stage I'd go with 3-2, I'll vote yes to obselete the current run, no to the run as a whole. So I'll come to a cross roads and vote 'meh'

I liked it. The old Air video wasn't as interesting to me without having seen this for comparison. Since the converse of that is also true, publishing this as a separate tier might not be a bad idea.

So a run that purposely doesn't run for 100% pure speed is "incompetent"?? I'll be damned!

This is my opinion exactly. I vote "no". Genisto's Air 1 is fun to watch. This movie of Air 2 basically runs though everything, skipping everything that made the hacked game different and interesting to watch in the first place. The addition of non-invisible ... invisible blocks removes a lot of the suprise/mystery that the old version had, as well.

"skipping" = "ignoring". that is, running over the top of the ceiling, or ignoring the intent of the puzzles (e.g. 100 coins) Which was done rather often.

I want to stress that I only voted no because the game is boring... My previous posts came off a bit confrontational. This was a well made run of a boring game, which resulted in a boring run.

I didn't do this very much at all, and when I did, it was skipping an insignificant part of the level. The vast majority of the game I completed.

I think when most of the given solutions require moving through walls then the 100 coins goal is out. I'd like to think U1 is smarter than to unintentionally allow enough invincibility time to get through the wall at the end.
