Before I begin, let me just say I know what PMs are, but the reason I made this public is because this is a continutation of my Abusing Programming Errors thread. The reason I needed to make a new one is because that thread is four months old and I don't like bumping old threads. Now, about Deign: When I said you didn't need to push a game to its absolute limits, you said that's exactly what you guys do here. I wanted to respond directly to that, but I was too worried about some big-mouthed child at the moment. Now I'm ready to respond: Games are my favorite form of entertainment, even better than movies. And to tell you the truth, I don't like when games are pushed to their limits. Because it's basically saying that they're in fact really sucky and people take advantage of it. Super Mario 3, Sonic 2, and Ocarina of Time are my favorite games of all time, and they've all been pushed to their limits. If this keeps going on, people will eventually get sick of the games and leave them in the dust. I don't want this to happen. So please, the next time you abuse programming errors, think about what you're doing to the game. I frantically don't care if you flame me for this, because I only come here to get tools for my own light-hearted playthroughs and don't visit the forums that often. Its curiousity that drives us wherever that may take us. Those who don't wish to find new short cuts or errors will be left to improving the same game but doing everything a little more optimally every time and thats even more boring.

Elaborate. I assume you're talking about glitches, which obviously don't apply to every game. Many of these glitches are taken advantage of by non-TASers; I doubt anyone who loves a game, TASer or not, would consider it "sucky" because of it's glitches.

so you're on the wrong site then. It's like walking into an italian restaurant and yelling "I don't like pizza! What are you doing to the poor cheese?". It's completely pointless. Every single person on this site loves games, and nobody intends to destroy anything. This site has produced an enormous amount of entertaining videos. (Glitch-abusing) speedruns brought me into emulation to show me all the good games I never knew as a child. nesvideos managed to show me a whole new perspective on gaming which I really enjoy - and I'm still playing those games as I did before, it didn't ruin anything for me. And it's not just me, TASes brought a friend of mine to de-dust his old NES, another friend of mine started playing SM64 after seeing the 0-star-tas. TASes as a result of glitch-hunting and abusing were a very good way to explain my way of thinking (geek brain) to my girlfriend, it helped her understand me better. The list goes on. So far I've yet to experience a negative effect of glitches or tool-assistance. So if you don't like it, go somewhere else. But realize that your way of enjoying games isn't the only way to enjoy games, that you're not the one making the standards of what should be enjoyed and what shouldn't, and that glitches and tasing create a lot of enjoyment and appreciation of games for a lot of people, even if you can't experience that yourself. now please, be so kind not to create a third thread about the issue in a couple of months. You're getting nowhere.

I know when I got on top of death mountain in OoT, I could HEAR my n64 crying out in pain. Clearly, I had pushed the game to its limit, and it hurt. But you know, since a program is used for input in some parts in the Megaman run, it presents an interesting situation. Humans have been pushed-to-the-limit when it comes to pushing games to-the-limit, so a to-the-limit-pusher program has to occasionally be developed so games can be pushed-to-the-limit beyond human, game, console, and developer expectations. ... yeah.
I think i've watched about 70% of the TAS's on this site... It's become one of the first sites I check daily for updates. I'm going to start posting more.

I find this concept to be a little strange, but there is a slight part I agree with. Though it's not about how glitches are evil and kill children. What I find annoying is when a glitch skips over a part of a game I was really looking forward to seeing. When I say that, I mean I was looking forward to seeing it done fast. That's really the only annoying thing I can think about glitches. Though I must say it can be frustrating to see something really hard get done by walking through a wall or something, but I laugh afterwords. That's part of what makes glitches fun. Are you telling me you never did the missingno glitch? (Of course that's only if you played Pokemon) If you ever did that particular glitch, you don't have any argument since that is pretty much the cheapest glitch you can pull off if a game.

Hahaha, you can't be serious? Come on, I know you must have laughed at the zipping in Mega Man, my crazy shortcut in Duck Tales, and I don't even know how to describe what happened to Sonic & Knuckles+Sonic 3. You are clearly a troll.

It can work both ways. In some cases, when people get bored of a game, THEN they try to find other ways to enjoy it. I got bored of Metroid Prime after 100%ing hard mode, and I was about to put the game away forever when I found out about the Space Jump Early trick. It provided me with many more hours of fun and frustration as I tried to speedrun the game. In any case, the game glitches are there, whether you like them or not. You can choose to ignore them or not use them, but it doesn't make them go away. Trying to pretend glitches don't exist in order to preserve the "sanctity" of games is silly. The fact is that some people really like to see these glitches demonstrated and used as novelty, which is part of the entire basis for this site. It should also be noted that most of the time, when we laugh at glitches being used, we're not lauging at the game, but with it. (Unless maybe you're talking about Widget, or Super Pitfall...)

I don't like a lot of game-breaking glitches (like the warpy Zelda 2 and the Rygar warps and so on) but I'm fine with glitches that let the game continue to operate.. if that makes any sense.

Ocarina of Time is widely considered the best game of all time. It is also one of the most glitched games of all time. Your arguments just don't work.

For your information, it is also widely considered the worst game of all time. Well... let's see. TASing (and speedrunning in general) actually extends the lifetime of games, by giving the player something to do after they have already beaten it, etc. So, uh, yeah. Guess we won't be seeing much of you anymore.

Can you actually make an argument that breaking sequence for the sake of entertainment is harmful to a game's status? I hate to break it to you, but no game, up to and including Bible Adventures, has been hand-crafted and passed down by God. Nobody is perfect, including programmers, and to actually go out of your way to hold a particular game on a pedestal and try to pass it off as flawless design is just plain sad. Are you against critique, as well? Should we do nothing but offer praise and color within the lines? I cringe at the thought of how boring and fragile your life must be. I implore you: go leave the toilet seat up, drink out of the milk carton, do ANYTHING, just live a little.

SDA runners use glitches, too — a lot of them. I guess his only choice left is Twin Galaxies. Too bad Twin Galaxies doesn't host a single video, haha.

I seem to be the only one who agrees with this to some degree. Sure, games can be fun even if they have glitches, as long as the glitches don't destroy the gameplay, and glitch abuse can allow the creation of some entertaining movies. However, if I start thinking about the oversights the programmers/designers/whoever made that allow the glitches to happen, the game does lose some respect from me.
