AKA's comments...

Initially, the target was to break 15 mins, since the previous run had 12-13 seconds of known improvements, which would've taken it nicely below 15 minutes. Although with a little bit of messing around in the basement on a N64, and tossing away all the tiring and obvious lines of enquiry in the past, I began to get suspicious of possible BLJ locations, as I managed to get 3-4 BLJs in a row on a console, which made me want to fully TAS it, although it was not done on the one seen in the finished run as it later turned out to be impossible to gain any sort of infinite speed. In total, there are 5 BLJ locations in the basement, with another one or two locations being entirley unconfirmed. It seems that a banister, unlike an outer wall, is able to hold Mario and stop him sliding out of the BLJ location, which is why the previously mentioned ones don't work. Sadly, for the time being, DDD is not skippable, so there is no 0 star run. It's a shame that this makes the 16 star catagory obselete, since it wasn't quite perfected yet.

Swordless Link's comments...

I had just came back from a holiday to find all the hype about new BLJ locations in the basement. Needless to say, I was keen to investigate these, as it meant a possible 1 or 0 star TAS. When I found out about them, I checked the TAS forums, and found that AKA had found something that might have been useful, so I contacted him about it and was informed that he was unable to gain enough speed to break the door. I suggested that we find a way to get Mario stuck against the banister, so AKA and I experimented with the stairs and eventually came to the conclusion that holding the analogue stick in the general direction of the nearby key door meant that Mario would not leave the BLJ area until he had a significantly higher amount of speed than in AKA's initial attempt, which happened to be enough to break the door. I'm satisfied with the final time of the run, after all, it is the first of its kind, but even then I feel that it's very optimal.

People we want to thank...

Rikku: For the DDD and BitS timesavers.
mr_roberts_z: For the idea of long jumping after performing the stair glitch in the room beyond the second keydoor.

About the glitch...

Riddle me this It liek at the corner of the basement but next to the slope that slopes down to the water, I was facing sideways and I went in the ledge was just above the rim and started bljing like mad,
unfortunatley I've never done it again and I can't record nor upload any screenshots, but the descriptions there so anyone can do what I just did.

This is awesome! Does this render a 16 star run useless now?

Posting in a legendary thread. I like how this is perfect in every goddamn way. BLJing through Boswer 1 was clearly one of the highlights of the run. Congratulations on creating such a beautiful TAS and for the first time breaking the 16-star limit. ;) Good work guys, you really deserve this. Do I need to mention this is a yes vote?

Fantastic, I knew this would eventually come even if when I asked AKA yesterday he wouldn't admit it. As yes this does completely render the 16 star run useless, maybe now we can have a 70 star run that's main point is route planning. Since the 1-star and 120-star both sort of lack any large amounts of route planning. Thanks SL and AKA...yes vote duh.

YES! I always suspected that SM64 was too glitchy to be bounded by 16 stars and you two proved it with style. Would this run be the single largest sequence break on the site in terms of percentage normally needed to complete the game? (the only other run I can think of that gives competition is the glitched ALttP run)

Dang. Didn't realize that the existing run could be beaten by THAT much. Great work guys, hats off to both of you. Two thumbs really up on this one.

Holy God is what I said when I saw the topic, and continued to say as I watched the movie up to the end. I noticed improvements all over and they were brilliant. I think everyone else has said/will say what I want to. I look forward to the next version.

Two things to say come to mind. 1) The only thing preventing a 1-star run was a way into dire dire docks without MIPS. And you succeeded. Bravo. 2) "The race for quality has no finish line". It's a times like this that I actually start to believe it. 3) I'm going off the board and saying "Wow" at bowser in the dark world. Oh, and I also voted.

I don't see my name in the acknowledgments. Need I remind you I discovered the BLJ through bowser 1 bug?

humm sorry but it's known that you can BLJ on upwards moving platforms... and that was an obvious one -_- man, this movie was unexpected, and bowser 1 looked incredible like that.

I silled my drink because of this run. If this forum had a rofanity filter, I would let loose. Holy cra, this is ridiculous. By the way, the "p" key on my keyboard just went haywire. robably because I silled some drink on my keyboard. (I coy/asted the one instance I really needed that key, in case youre wondering). So you can be glad that your run may have ruined at least 1 keyboard. : (switched to a backup, so no damage done... except now I'll have to haunt the thrift store until some backup keyboards show up......) Edit: By the way, I like the run, voted YES.

Who said it was a discovery? We just didn't use it in previous runs because we had to get the red coins.

Voting yes on this run, and on obsoleting the 16-star category. This run was...BRILLIANT!
