I got to thinking, A great way to promote this site would be to put up some of the speed runs on a video website, like youtube.com So I mad a group there for just that purpose. http://www.youtube.com/group/TAGCM Is this a good Idea? or not? [Edit by Bisqwit: Merged into existing Youtube thread.]

We should all answer questions by linking to other threads. It's so helpful.

Correct me if I'm wrong on this, but isn't video-quality better on youtube than on google-videos? That's the impression I got anyway. So in what ways are Google-videos better than youtube?

I wasn't sayign "Google video is better than Youtube" I was saying "a similar idea was already proposed and you should probably join up with them rather than starting off your own thing"

Many of the Nesvideos movies have been recently republished at Youtube.com. The problem is: the people who have published them there have stripped away the logo and the disclaimer that it is a tool-assisted movie. They are published there without any mention that they are tool-assisted movies. This kind of action contains a seed to raise up the "you fucking cheater" storms again. Especially this user: http://www.youtube.com/profile_videos?user=joemawlma Because of this, I am now forbidding the republication of our videos at YouTube.com. It doesn't help, but it is the least I can do.

Hm, I noticed that whenever people post a link to http://tasvideos.org/ in the video comments, a space creeps in just before the last s. Why do you suppose that is? And Bisqwit, I'm not so sure if a "no videos for you" policy is appropriate here. You could always flag a video as being a violation, yes, but maybe if you upload videos officially there, with that user group or whatever, it'll discourage people from reposting the cut videos because the uncut videos will be there plain to see.

That's an exceptionally good argument coming from you, BagOfMagicFood. I allow the publishing as long as it's done by someone who is responsible enough to do it right. The message is there to disencourage those who don't care to do it right.

Okay... Does anyone feel like making an account and hunting down those stolen videos to flag them?

So that means some member of Nesvideos can upload a movie at Youtube.com if he/she writes a proper description?

Yes and keeps the video content intact.

I already have a YouTube account. I'll get started on flagging the bad movies, and uploading the few I have downloaded to my computer. Actually, I take that back. As the only video I have on my computer that is both less than 100 megs and shorter than 10 minutes is my Ducktales run. And that would be all sorts of self-centered.

In my point of view, these are the things that need to be thought about when uploading videos to those kinds of sites: - complete/uncut version of the avi published on nesvideos - text info regarding short explanation of tool-assisted timeattacks (differences to normal gameplay) - proper links (namely the nesvideos site and the video in question) - some explanation that the video might have been obsoleted already - include the word "official" somewhere

That's really outrageous. I suppose that their mentality is a bit like of those who take one of those Nike (or whatever) commercials where something really incredible has been achieved by computer trickery, but which just looks *really* real, then they cut the ending of the ad where the Nike (or whatever) logo and tagline appear and then post it somewhere as a "real" video. Afterwards you can then check from snopes.com that it was indeed not a real video but just a commercial using computer trickery. I suppose that when people cut ad videos like that and then post them to the internet, they are seeking for the "WTF??? Is this real???" reaction of people for their own amusement. I bet those people at youtube are seeking for the same kind of amusement. They probably don't understand what kind of controversy they are stirring and how much damage they are doing by that. (Some of them probably wouldn't care even if they did.)

Or some people have already came to here, read the Hoax'n'Cheat FAQ, then decided to be mischevious and go stir up some shit. I know at least one person on AIM who jumps at the chance to start things... <shrug>

I've seen people get around the limit--well, at least somewhat--by splitting long videos into several <10 minute sections.

Before people was able to upload long video until some months ago they limited video length to 10 min.
