Really? I was thinking that with not having sudden random encounters, and with battles being more active than normal RPGs, that it would be more interesting than normal RPG runs at the least. Then again, I found the RPG runs to be rather boring, so that doesn't really mean too much... I guess you're probably right.

The particular reason I dislike JFG is that it's a cheap and laggy ripoff of MDK, which is superior to JFG in pretty much every respect. MDK would also make an excellent TAS with its speed abuse — too bad we have to wait quite some time until it's possible to emulate mouse movements without problems.

The n64 will probably my top system forever, if only because of perfect dark, but goldeneye, super smash bros, DK64, SM 64, SF 64, and rogue squadron provided a nice complement.

Also if they are good games or not can be questioned... But the majority of 3D Sonics are on Gamecube and they would probably make fine TAS's.

The only problem with that is many people including me don't know how to effectively dump a movie into an AVI file.

Viewing AVIs will be much better in an era where games are a few hundred megs (psx) or a few gigs (GC). That seems like a major stumbling block for tasing all disc based systems.

The problem with AVIs is that they can't be verified. Because of the way TASVideos is designed, the input file IS the movie and cannot be doubted, since the only real requirement is that it complete the movie by any means possible. But, as strange as the concept of "cheating" in a TAS seems, an AVI could be created that used cheat codes, claiming to implement a novel glitch, in a way that was unverifiable by more than a small segment of the viewing population. By providing the AVI beforehand, you also put a heavy load on the TASVideos servers for movies that aren't necessarily worth it. (The game size "argument" is a nonargument, of course, because TASVideos does not support piracy!)

Well, as long as a submission has an input file as well, it's OK. Because as long as some people watch the input file instead of AVI file, then they can say "Hey! Wait a minute!".

Emulator working at a "decent speed" is not an issue. We make movies here frame by frame, or at a slow speed in any case. When the movie is published, we make an AVI of it, and that AVI will play at normal, console speed regardless of the speed of the computer it was created on.

Okay, but what if you just want to review your work, or you need to make a new savestate that comes before or long after other savestates? That can get really annoying with a slow emulator.

In regard to Bisqwit's post, DOSBox is a perfect example. The fact that there exists a version of DOSBox that can generally play games at proper speed is irrelevant.

Where would we get the isos to make the tas', though (rehtorical[sp], mind you). I mean, it is a lot more difficult to find dumps of massive GCN iso's than any 1,000 kb snes rom or whatever. Unless EVERY movie was encoded to AVI and shared that way, a GCN TAS would be quite pointless due to the average internet user not being able to find or not being able to download a whole, clean, [!] GCN iso to watch the movie... the emulation is a small step for TASing, but easy to find isos are the bigger jump.. imho (To cover my ass i give a disclaimer: I am NOT asking for places to get the roms, as stated I was thinking hypothetically and I really dont care to know where I can get the roms or any of that jazz)
