How were you doing the pipe route? did you frame count mine compared to finishing it with 362? 3 seconds faster, Well, that sucks... I also know a way to do two of the levels faster also, it just taked a long time...!!! - Volkov

I used your most recent movie for the pipe route. I could never get a 369. >_> haha

SO just flying over the entire level from the start is faster than my most rescent pipe route? Damn, by 3 whole seconds?!? Are you serious? Anyways, I hope you liked the effort I put into it, hopefully you can beat it by not taking the pipe route, and generally speeding up your game, I think you can! - Volkov

I've just seen the latest version of your run. It's really great. Extremely fast. A question concerning the pipe route you discuss above: What's the point in taking it anyway? This looked extremely unelegant (and as we have seen it actually costs quite a lot of time). What's the reason for doing it? I'm asking just because of pure interest. From an entertaining standpoint I really liked what you did with those flames during the fight with browser before he appeared the third time. This was nice - especially for me having used the major part of the weekend playing through SMW on my GBA - just for the sake of old times. When you don't have the luxury of savestates and slowdown you can't to that kind of acrobatics ;-) Looking forward for your 100% run. Oh and if I may ask: One of those levels in the speical world (the one with the ice everywhere) and another - the one which consists mainly of emptiness to fall into: Would you mind getting all the Yoshi coins for us viewers? Those two levels are so damn difficult that I never managed to get them using a real console. I think it may be nice to watch. Possibly. Philip

By level falling to emptiness, you mean the sunkern ship before world seven appears right? That would be nice to watch, I could get quite a combo on it too! Keep your ideas coming, I've got lots of time to fill and neat stuff to do while doing a 100% run, which I hope you'll all enjoy watching! - Volkov

Hi, no. I meant a level in the special world (this completely dark Map you access after getting all secret goals in the Star Road). It's about the third or fourth level in there. It starts quite easy with some pipes but if you go on just a bit you have to get through the whole level with just (deadly) emptyness at the bottom. Let me see how that thing is called... Ah! Yes, Tubular it is. This is so insanely difficult to do without savestates and slowdowns... Getting all the coins here while doing a bit of acrobatics - if possible certainly would be entertaining. I just tried it out and fire Mario can glitch through the ramp in DSH, but it took a lot of tries for me to pull it off. Edit: Btw, speaking of tubular, in case you didn't know this already, it's possible to beat that level without using the P-balloon or yoshi. All you need is a cape. Edit 2: In DP1, you could have entered the pipe while flying. Use your cape to pull yourself up into the pipe, and hold down up as you touch the pipe.

in DS1 before the DSH, if you switch between fire and cape mario when going up the part with the dragon coin above the fish and you're holding the red shell, it won't work, you're needing the cape to knock the enemy out, fire mario won't do it... Also, using cape mario after the first door in DSH (Right to left, where the P-block is) It's EASILY quicker to go with cape mario than with fire mario, and switch to cape mario when hitting the P. So in conclusion, I think this glitch is a complete waste of time, UNLESS, you can somehoewswitch to fire mario at the VERY beggining of DSH, and wait for it to drop, then pull the glitch and then swap to cape mario asap after that....no, wait, forget it, that's just not quicker.....But maybe we could work something else out with the whole 'glitching' through the staircase at the begining to somehow fins a faster route... Also, how is 1IC finishable at 282 (instead of 281, I think) at the first door? EDIT - Why don't we chat on aim or msn if you have it, my details are at the bottom of all my post. cya - Volkov

I haven't tried it myself, but are you sure you can't kill the enemy with the cape first and then get the flower? Also, how is 1IC finishable at 282 (instead of 281, I think) at the first door? I have no idea, I just saw someone say that it's possible but he didn't explain the strategy. In DSH, you lost a timeunit in the first part of the level, but you went through the next part of the level a timeunit faster than I did so you ended up finishing at the same time as me. If you fix up the beginning of the level you could finish at 341. Edit: Hmm, I just did a frame count comparing the pipe route to finishing with a time of 362. And skipping the pipe is nearly 3 seconds faster, assuming I did my math correctly. >_> Is there any way to display the frame count on the screen so you can see it while recording the movie?

DSH - 386 - 370 - 340 (per going through a door at that time) I was always good at that second bit, but there is a problem, whenever I do the first bit faster (I can, trust me) The second bit (the circle of ghosts) is dofferent, and I can't get past quickly... So, I guess I have to keep trying till I get a good setup and that'll always work with my end result.. Also, if you kill the fish with the cape then get the flower, it takes too long, and I think, it's slower anyways, going through the second part of DSH with fire mario (instead of me flying almost enitrely through the second part...) oh and then waiting for you're cape again after you hit the P-block, it could be a disaster, of course, I'm going to have to try it all out, I don't quite get the glitch though with fire mario, what exactly do you press and when? Like, always running, etc, what buttons and when? - Volkov

Are you sure you can't jump in between or fly through the ghosts? oh and then waiting for you're cape again after you hit the P-block Press select a little before you reach the P-switch and by the time you get back to the right the cape will have time to fall. Btw, sorry for being off topic again, but can someone either tell me how to set pause as right shift or create a patch for me if you can't already do that? Also, for people that have made speed runs already (I'm assuming there's no way to change the pause button), what do you have your keys set as? Do you pause your game every time you save or load? I don't quite get the glitch though with fire mario, what exactly do you press and when? When I did it I put A on autofire and I just held down A to repeatedly spin jump. It might be possible to do the glitch by only spin jumping once, but I'm not sure. I think the way the glitch works is that when you land from the spin jump you have to be on the part of a stair that's as far down and to the right as possible and then immediately spin jump again, and then you won't be high enough to land on the ramp so you just fall through. However, that's just a guess, it might really be something else that causes it.

I use a SNES controller, and THAT's IT! I removed L and R and made them load and save state, no need for pausing, and yes I did my entire run with it! Fly inbetween the ghosts, umm, that's what i do... - Volkov

I have two more questions. One question that I think I might have asked already but didn't get an answer for is what speed do you play at? Also, instead of setting L and R on the controller as save and load, is there any way to set keys on the keyboard as save and load?

WHy don't you people use a program similar to joy2key and map shift button to Pause, it's that simple, wtf are you people talking about? And why would you need to puase to save and load state, wouldnt that just take more time, hold the butons that you have like, right and run and then load state ad keep holding the buttons and you're off, well, i guess that might be pretty hard to do all that with a keyboard, why would you bother, use a snes controller, its worked so much better, and i can do the runs in much less time! - Volkov EDIT - to your last post, again a joy2key like program which you can map keys with! What speed, I change all the time, Can you catually play frame by frame, or is it so bad that you press a key and 15 seconds later that key will be pressed:P? - Volkov

YI2 - 360 YI3 - 259 YI4 - 275 1IC - 281 - 245 - 241 DP1 - 383 - 369 ( using the pipe :( ) DS1 - 279 - 274 - 258 DSH - 386 - 370 - 340 SW1 - 290 SW2 - 260 SW3 - 192 SW4 - 271 BC! - 395 - 387 - 374 - 358

And why would you need to puase to save and load state Because it would be kind of ackward having to reach over to press shift+f1-9 without taking my fingers off the keys. I would also only be able to save in places where I have the same combination of keys pressed for a few seconds. WHy don't you people use a program similar to joy2key and map shift button to Pause, it's that simple, wtf are you people talking about? I never heard of that program. Is it free? If so, then can you tell me where I could get it? Anyway, I'm going to try playing DSH in ZSNES again and I'll see if I can beat the level at 341. Edit: I can't get to that door at 371, I keep missing by about .2 seconds. Edit 2: I just came so close, the timer switched to 370 about .1 seconds before I entered the door.

Volkov: what method do you use to use an actual snes controller on your pc? I really like snes controllers...
g,o,p,i=1e4,a[10001];main(x){for(;p?g=g/x*p+a[p]*i+2*!o: 53^(printf("%.4d",o+g/i),p=i,o=g%i);a[p--]=g%x)x=p*2-1;}

Snes conreoller is modded especially for use on pc, it's got a gameport extension coming from it, and it's really well done. (props to my mate) posibly a USB extension will also come from it soon if I can be bothered, and maybe 2P support. The controller istself is just a PAL snes con if that matters, and it's just plug it in, install the drivers (psxpad of course) and then off ya go! Of course I never unplug it unless when going to a lan, but then it'll just go straight back in, no need to configure drivers again :P If you want actual info on it then you best wait till my mate who made it for me gets back from holiday (that's tomorow) I can get him to post here, I might do that, otherwise if ya want I can pass on your aim, yim, or msn info to him and he can contact you if he is free, being the busy electronic person he is... well, catch ya! - Volkov
