These games may be remakes but they are very different remakes with mechanics and graphics from the newer games. You can't glitch whatever Pokemon you want, Abilities and holding Items are included, the Special stat has been split into Special Attack and Special Defense, etc. So a TAS run might be accepted...just like Metroid: Zero Mission!

This is not exactly a Remake, to to be clear. The Layout of some areas are different, as well as Gym Leaders and Members of the Elite Four. To be exact, this is more of a version set in the Future.

I might do this if 1) No one really wants to, and 2) It is actaully acceptable, being a slight bit of a remake. Any route/plan suggestions?

Even though it has the same main layout as the original game (with tweaks here and there), with it having the same mechanics as RSE — and no glitchable pokémon, to boot — I can't see it being rejected. Question is, if you did this run, would you go straight through it and ignore everything else (the route of the original game) or try to beat the Elite Four a second time? If it's the latter, then you have to catch sixty pokémon before the Oak gives you the updated Pokédex and you do the second Sevii Islands sidequest.

Now that's a good question. I think the movie should end with the credits, so if I have to beat the Elite Four twice to do that, I guess that's fine. It might be a little hard though, considering their levels.

When you beat the Elite Four the first time, the game ends with the credits. If you've managed to snag sixty pokémon, then when you reset the game, you get a "second quest" in the vein of SMB2J — not as long as the main game, more challenging, completely different paths to go through, stuff like that. I can see there being two runs through the game: beating the Elite Four once (more or less what's done in RBY, only with different mechanics), or clearing the Sevii Islands and pwning the Elite Four again with their shiny new and higher leveled pokémon. Personally, I'd like to see the latter, but I'm not the one TASing the game. :P

The problem is that I think their pokemon will be to high leveled the second time around, I and don't want to spend 2 hours fighting wild pokemon to level up.

If it would come to that would it not just be quicker to pick up some legendaries on the way? Even if you had to go out of your way to pick up Mewtwo near the end, I can not see the need to level up against wild Pokemon.

The legendaries are level fifty, and wouldn't have any EVs (points you get from battling various pokémon along the way) — might not be a big deal in these runs, but who knows. The new Elite Four have pokémon averaging in the seventies; the only trainer that has higher levels is GSC's Red. Although who knows, picking up a legendary feline/mutt/whatever/potato and Mewtwo might prove to do some good.

What level does the Mewtwo come at? 70? And also, they're legendary Gerbils.

GameFAQs says Mewtwo is level 70, whilst apparently other pokemon found on his floor are 60-70, which could add some last minute power to a team if needed, if you chose to pick him up. By the time you get to this stage you may have enough to money solve their lack of EV problems with Protein, Iron and the like. There still for sale in the huge Poke Mart right? Are you sure the Elite Four round 2 will be such a huge problem though? From what I have seen of the other pokemon runs on the site nothing of the sort of training in the grass for 2 hours was needed, even for the fight with Red.

They would be in Celadon, yes, but you can only give your pokémon so many. If their EV number for that stat is over a hundred, then it "won't have any effect". kirbymuncher: If you are planning to undertake this, which starter do you plan on choosing?

I'd think Squirtle, as it can hit the fist gym hard, and is pretty strong later on as well. If anyone has reasons for me to take a different starter, please mention them.

I think these games have a plot too close to R/B to make an interesting new run, unless you do the Sevii Islands bit. So I guess it is necessary to catch 60 pokemon before hitting the islands. What pokemon would be used? Tilus' run used a Squirtle, and with no wild pokemon glitches in these games, that would probably be the best choice. I can see this run as being maybe 10 minutes slower than Tilus' run (because of attacks that can't miss, and the consequential pokemon center visits) to beat the Elite Four, and maybe a half hour for catching 50-60 pokemon, and then an hour to beat the Elite Four again. That's a long run.

Who cares about the plot? Even if it's the same route, the changes carried over from RSE make the game play little like RBY, so that alone could warrant a new run. If anything, it would look more like the Sapphire run that was just published. Although, if the player were to try and complete the second quest, then it might be better to undertake the first Sevii Island quest after Blaine's gym, because it's not out of the way at all. Not too sure about that though, because I never really did it any other way.

Interesting point. Do you need the 60 pokemon when you beat elite four, or can you catch them later? I wonder which pokemon would be quickest to get. Would it ever be quicker to catch pokemon and use stones or rare candy to evolve them?

You can do either or, but it's quicker to pick up the pokémon before you trump the Elite Four the first time around, because Oak will come directly to you after you reset the game.

I'd say it's better to catch whatever wild pokémon you can find, and the ones that aren't found naturally in the wild should either be evolved with rare candy or stones, whichever the situation calls for. (Remember, rare candies are scarce in FRLG.) Also, you won't be able to obtain the pokémon in GSC until after you beat the game once, so no random sentret popping up out of nowhere.

What I mean is, say there's a route where level 17 pidgey appear and level 18 pidgeotto. Is it quicker to catch both, or catch a Pidgey, have it in the party, and then use a Rare Candy?

Without testing, I'd think it would be leveling it up as the fastest way, but I'm not sure, as the evolution movie thingy takes a while. Once it's been decided which one to do, I'll start on it.

If I lose the starting battle, does my pokemon still gain the EV point? [Edit by Bisqwit: Post moved into the appropriate thread. Please do that yourself the next time.]

No.

While it's unknown if it takes longer to give a pokémon a Rare Candy and let it evolve instead of just catching one, you'd have to go out of your way to get an RC, then go over to the menu to select it (because you're going to have your Bicycle registered so that you won't have to go into the menu constantly to ride it), then watch the level up process. It may take just about as long to catch a higher evolved pokémon with a Ball, but a) at least you won't have to go out of your way for an RC, and b) if you really do need RCs, then you could save them for the pokémon that you can't get in the wild or would be too far out of the way to normally get. Dunno how well this would work in execution, but it at least sounds plausible. ;>.>

Of course, there are probably 60 pokemon along the route. Let me explain. Say you have 59 pokemon caught, and you're on a route with some pokemon you haven't caught. If you have an evolution stone, and a pokemon it evolves, it would still be quicker to simply catch the pokemon rather than evolving it. However, if catching every single pokemon along the way still isn't enough, rare candies will be necessary. Probably for pokemon like Wurmple, because they can be caught early near evolution.

Wurmple aren't in FRLG, so that isn't a concern. Sounds like the major question was answered though, which is cool.

I'd rather see the extras being done mean, we already got Pokemon Red to see up to them, so extras should be done first.

I just think Chamale meant Weedle.
