Okay, I have read enough about how bad IE is and how good Firefox and Opera are. So, I tried to install firefox and get used to it. Surprisingly, it shown most pages differently than IE, for example all links on forums are larger than other text. If that's the way it should be and IE is acting wrong, then I like this "wrong" way better.
But there's another thing that really bugs me. I always browse with disabled graphics, and if I want to see some picture, i Right-click on it and choose "show picture". IE just displayed that picture where it should be, but FF opened that picture as a new link, and I have to press "back" to return to page. It's absolutely not acceptable, but I did not find any option to make it show piture inside the site, not as a new page. Does anybody know how to do it?..
EDIT: Oh, now I see that it just showed Alternative text of pictures instead of pictures themselves, and that was displayed as larger text. Does not help at all.

I know what you mean, that is an odd function. So far as I know there is no way to accomplish that. Why do you browse with graphics disabled? Do you have a slow connection?
Well, I guess Opera is a bit better for that particular purpose (browsing with images disabled), since it allows not loading them without harming the page markup (if the image sizes are defined in the tag), and loading the images separately without leaving the page. It also works with cache a lot better, which also might be useful to save traffic.

Meh, I browse with images enabled, so that's not a problem for me.
I tried the latest IE the other day. It looks like they tried to do a 1:1 clone of Firefox. They finally added tabs. Welcome to 5 years ago if you just found out about those. They even use the same keyboard shortcuts. Bleh. Firefox is still better, not just because it won't give you 10 viruses every time you click a link, but also because of allthosewonderfulextensions.

Well, I know it's not a problem for most of you, but I live not in the best place in terms of internet access, and the only ISP offers connection with ~$0.1 for megabyte. Thus I am forced to disable most images...
"All those" is a very strong description. :)
In reality, there are like 5-8 that really are a must, some of the others are only marginally useful, and most of them are generally useless.
All the same with the open source IM client I'm using (since 2003), Miranda: hundreds of plugins that do everything, but only a handful of them indispensable.

Okay, you got me there. :D I needed more words to link to each useful extension I have installed. Anyway, even without any extensions, Firefox is still better. But everyone already knew that, right?
Well, yeah. I just don't understand why some people idolize FF just because of that — it's not like there wasn't any alternative browser better than IE at least in the past 5-6 years… I myself tried some of them, including the original Mozilla, Netscape and the first versions of Firefox (called Firebird back then). Finally decided that Opera is my browser of choice, and up until now, I see no reasons to change it.

Opera is a fine browser. I used it myself for a while before I switched to Firefox. The only reason I switched was the permanent advertisement banner. That was a long time ago, though.
Now that IE has is internet-capable, though, I guess you have three choices. (Edit: of course I'm talking about Windows users here. If you use another OS, you have 5721 viable choices.)
If you need a browser for a limited connection like that, get Opera -- its cache really is indispensable.
Images are easier to disable and re-enable (and "Show Image" just shows it, Open Image opens it) and it too is free.
(It no longer features the adbar since 8.5, which was years ago)
Also, sorry to hear that you rinternet service is based on a per-megabyte cost. :(
There's an ironical problem with firefox extensions: If you run one, you basically expose your entire system (or at least anything you have access to) to whatever code the extension has.
Why is this ironical? Because that's exactly why ActiveX was criticized.
If you're worried about the possibility that a user might install something to improve his browser that could break his system, then use lynx. Every major graphical browser has a plugin-interface for flash and others which can be abused in the exactly same way.
The issues with ActiveX are different ones, most of which simply don't exist in Firefox Extensions.
IE6 destroyed my computer twice, first was kernal32.dll was modified. I couldn't find any fix for it because it didn't let me run any program. All I could do is reformat computer (10+ hours installing everything back in again)
Second was modified ActiveX, I couldn't see most things on internet. I couldn't find any fix for it, again reformatted computer.
With Firefox, it does better job blocking internal modification, extension makes it even better (NoScript, blocks malicious javascript stuff). And I'm considering to uninstall AVG virus scanner, I never got any virus with Firefox. But I had to keep AVG virus scanner anyway because of Firefox can't embed video so I have to open IE the page that shows no video.

I find Avast to be a perfectly acceptable solution.
I agree. AVG just gave me a headache; the program didn't impress me very much. I've been using Avast for over a year now without any problems; runs smoothly for the most part, but I just had to disable its annoying "Caution, Virus!" sounds.
