This made me think of a tidbit on Kej's SM documentation page: http://jathys.zophar.net/supermetroid/kejardon/index.html (look at the Title.ips entry at the bottom) No idea what that means... Anyway, Kej is probably just being secretive until he can drop a bomb on us. Surprise is best served cold, like revenge.

It is time.. For the ultimate in entertainment specialty, featuring both myself (NameSpoofer) and Saturn, we present: NameSpoofer's 14% SpeedBooster Ridley. With this AVI file, I declare that any statement regarding the words "ChargeBeam + Ridley + Slow + Boring" be banished and any user be burned under the platform in the pool of acid from which Samus defeated Ridley with the ChargeBeam. -----Special thanks to Saturn for helping optimize the K.O. grab, information on Ridley tactics in general, and for creating this Godly AVI demo. Will be uploaded to YouTube in the next few days when an issue is sorted out. Music: Sent to Destroy - CombiChrist Enjoy.

So, according to my crude calculations, this fight is roughly 41 seconds slower than the Ice route counterpart. Unfortunately, you won't be able to make MB fight this exciting (if only because running around during it is counterproductive, not to mention the complete lack of ammo).

Accoding to my rough calculation, it was much closer to ~33-35 seconds slower. People will just fast forward through the MB fight anyways.. >.> I dread that fight.

I measured from entering the room until the appearance of refill items. Could you re-check? [EDIT] Checked again with VirtualDub, with starting point = first frame of motion in the room, and ending point = first frame of refills appearing. In Saturn's 14% run the time between these two points is 6036 AVI frames, in your AVI, it's 4214 frames at half the framerate. When adjusted to the same framerate, it's 2392 frames, or ~40 seconds, longer. [EDIT 2] I see the reason for disrepancy: you've measured the difference in in-game frames, and your movie has more lag due to using one more powerbomb.

From entering the room to the frame the drops appear, my fight is exactly 2324 frames slower, or 38.70 seconds. Not that bad of a loss.

What if somebody show up with a 100% TAS beating Cpadolf's record but using x-ray to skip some parts/boss/bosses. Would it obsolete Cpadolf's run or it is a different category?

First of all, seeing as Cpadolf didn't use the X-Ray on purpose, it would have to at least match his run's quality in every new part stemming from this new option. I would likely vote no on it, though, because X-Ray glitching sucks.

I'm not trying to bring back from the dead anything, i was just thinking about that because i really like cpadolf's 100% speedrun and as a "no x-ray run" was obsoleted by a "x-ray run" i've been thinking if it could happen to a 100% run too.

It could potentially happen. I would most likely vote no on it as well, because I chose not to use X-ray for what I think is a good reason. But the general audience might disagree. It would not become a separate category anyway.

Rightfully it should, as the glitched any% took away the 14% lows. I am working really hard on the 14% speed run as an attempt to win back those two catagories with superior optimization and entertainment, or do a 100% run with x-ray abuse and obselete Cp's run. >.<

You forgot the rest of that sentence, allow me: Because X-Ray glitching sucks the long dick of extreme awesomeness

Well, i hope it doesn't happen, and if it happens i hope the Tasvideos.org owners think about the possibilitie of a glitched category. I'd like to see the limit of a 14%, Any% and a 100% run, but i think people will stop trying to optimize this runs if they feel their runs won't be published. As a glitched run skip a good part of the game, that skipped part probably will be ignored by the speedruners and a lot of new tricks/speed tricks won't have the chance to be found. Hope to see your run soon NameSpoofer and good luck with the submission thing.

I think most people will agree that TASVideos needs to rework how it publishes movies so that there's a place to put these "super niche" videos (that are made primarily for fans of the game) without having to give them the same prominence that the more standard runs (any% and 100%, and maybe low%) have. Once that's done, Saturn's 14%, the SB 14%, RBO, et cetera could all come out of the woodwork.

Here is a comparison video between Cpadolf and herooftheday's new and old any% non-glitched runs. http://folk.uio.no/sigurdkn/sm_ghost.mkv Only in-game frames are shown in this video, cutting away most of the boring stuff. In-game frames are also used for synchronization of the sprites from the different runs. To make it easy to compare room strategies, they are all resynced so that they enter each room at the same time, while they minimap shows where each run really is. The colors are: Normal: Cpadolf 2 Blue: Cpadolf 1 Green: Herooftheday 2 Red: Herooftheday 1 The numbers at the top of the screen show how many frames behind Cpadolf 2 each of the others are, for each room. (Cpadolf 2 comes out ahead here, because the video uses in-game timing. With real time timing, Herooftheday 2 would win). The details can be found here: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6539&start=168 Edit: Blue and Green were mixed up here. Fixed now in the text. The video is not changed.

Thanks! Feel free to try the script yourself, too. It requires a bit more setup than other scripts, mostly because of the gd image library dependency, but it isn't hard. You just need a new version of snes9x-rr.

Awesome! I especially liked watching the different ghosts play around during deadtime. The movie sadly just stopped playing with no error in the statue room; I don't know what's up with that. But what I saw was very nice.

Could someone please mirror it? The download drops out at around 5-10% for me. :(

Several people are having trouble downloading the video, it seems. Derakon's problem is probably an incomplete download, so he should try resuming the download. For those who can't get it to complete properly, I have uploaded it to youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QdFUMRFpn74 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xynlq_TNQMw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFyQCYhNEkg However, youtube greatly reduced the quality, making it very hard to see the colored samuses, which removes most of the point, so I recommend the original (or even better, seeing it in the emulator). Edit: Actually, the quality seems to have mysteriously improved. Does youtube perform some sort of second pass?
