It is true, though it's very very very very rare. It happened only one time to me when I was in the mana fort, using shadow wave against some book ennemy. I had the animation with many shadow zero running on top of the screen and Iwas "omfg wtf is dis !!§§!!§!" (though I am french so I didn't say exactly that). I don't remember if I had the shadow level to 8:99 but it was over 8, I am sure of this. And I was playing with the French cartridge of the game, on the good ol'SNES. I can't remember if I opened a chest with a shadow zero inside before using the spell, but I am also sure that I had already open chest with shadow zero inside while playing this game, more than one time. If he used cheats, it might be in order to make the effect happen.

I'm done with runs for Secret of Mana ( at least practice ). In my fast walkhrought with emulator, i was going to the first slime at the Shadow Palace and i died, i realised i had to plan magic Salamando training and redo Shadow Palace, i began to be bored with emulator so i tried finally SS speed run, my final goal, but i finally gived up, it take too time in my life. This game has definitely too random factors for a really impressive speed run, because of the moves of the 2 others chars which depends too much of your own moves. Total played time at Secret of Mana is huge ( for 100% game too ), I never had these Shadow Zero. A shadow Zero ( just one, not with Shadow Magic ) is perhaps in the game, you can open it in a bugged chest with AR, and it does nothing But this game is very glitched. However, i doubt of these Shadow Zero with magic, this general bug which can be in all the cartdrige. I think Secret of Mana cartdrige has hardware matter ( with all versions NTSC JP/US - PAL ) with not optimal data locations on cartdrige which give matter with complex loading like you and the 2 others chars are making some input which let you all bug possible, but randomly bug like if the cartdrige was broken and no always the same thing like shadow zero animation. When i was young, while the cartdrige was loading a room, it loaded a wrong music... I am sure of this. And you saw this chest in my speed run at ruins #2, and the end of Red Dragon at Pureland. Nothing seems to be impossible. Oh, and be careful of this chest of the ruins #2, with a tons of differents input you can have it ( i saw it in my emulator movie If you can have Shadow Zero ( just see it in fact ) it's in one of these bugged chest. Like the short TAS of Zelda ALTTP i saw, there seem to have teleportations between room, but not with direction input, just with bug you can search with eternity with emulator. I saw chipset bug with a few boss, the chipset had moved itself and i was in crap situations ( the picture was the same but the true obstacles were moved at other place ). For teleportation, i didn't took the time to really see it, i'm not expert of source code which will be probably interresting. Secret of Mana must be very long to TAS, Gorash. I wish you good luck.

8:99 is what I meant of course. I've gotten the shadow zero in a chest before, but the rare animation is, if anything, very rare, because I remember Shade to be the first I maxed out, and I used it a lot while getting the 8 trash mob orbs in the mana fortress. As for the TAS, I'll come back to that, but don't expect any WIPs soon. I'm still not sure if skipping Sylphid is overall faster, but I'll try it out I guess. Also before I work on this I want to get this Diablo2 necro done.

Perhaps this is only possible on the last two bosses? I recon they both are weak to Lumina or something, so it would never occur to me to try any other spells against them really. Does someone feel to try it out? Grab hold of some save state some where and try it.

Oh the last two are no problem really, Seiken demonstrated in his console run already that you can finish the last hour of the game with only the first 4 elements + mana magic. If one wants to skip Sylphid there are, I think, 3 bosses which get nasty: - the serpent that guards flammie. I calculated that, and in TAS, the fight is possible without sylphid. - The bull at the end of fire temple. Calculated that as well, it's a tight one, but with a 2-3 hits from Randi it's possible too, if all spells hit for max damage. - The bull at the end of golden island. I didn't have a chance to calculate that, but the TAS will have ~9 levels mor for the sprite compared to the console run due to leveling glitch abuse, so I just hope it's enough to get him down with other spells. - After that there is no lightning boss until after getting lunatic, which allows you to drain the bosses mana to cover the high mana consumption.

After my dino city run is finished. , i realy want to start a som tas. But i will come with some question first. - Is a rpg , so luck manipulation for critical is a must but can someone give me the critical rate of this game ? (exp 1/256). - The most important part is move speed , so i don't know if a glitch exist like all time running ect. - Did you think (if i can get) a two players run can be better ?.

Isn't this the three-player game? That would be the coolest. Also, this game has an existing thread here. (It's generally discouraged to make a new thread for a game if one exists already)

Well i take the decision to continue my fast smv, i have yet the time because we can only play a few min if we want. I planned a lots of little things, i think Secret of Mana can be finished under 2h45 without any glitchs. I'll give you news/new smv later, on the topic which you want. To plan boss spam is a pain, like the first slime. This bastard took me a lots of time ! Now i know how to kill it. I have to redo the Darkness Palace a new time. Good luck Gorash in your quest. But i don't think it can be alone, in fact it's because the fastest time magic training+boss spamming, it takes an eternity to plan that. I would be really happy to see a TAS of this game, especially a no-glitched TAS, but it's up to Gorash to see that.

About the pass trick before the sewers : it seems to be finally slower. After to fninish Darkness Palace you must to use Flamy one time more, because Maria doesn't recognize you, because you don't talk him. So you need to talk, then go to gold island, then got the key with Maria, then return to Gold Tower. I think the best is to talk to her before the sewers 1st time, then do the trick. I just saw a good trick, how to kill a few boss faster, it's works better for bad spamming spell ( ex : airblast of sylphid ) : Girl/Sprite has safe zone damage ( delimited in timing ) : ex : sprite is spamming the boss, then the boss has the time to do a spell on the sprite, and if you wait the good moment, sprite can restart his spam serie without to be hited. Well you see when you have the moment ? The boss has the same timming after to take a sort, wait this taiming and hit with Randi's Sword : damage of the sword will be always added to the damage spell. It's very good dor the fisrt worm for exemple, but the best exemple is the first slime. Well i have to do that, i will not redo the first slime, i'm too busy, grumble. I'm supposed to finished it, but i think i will do it, i don't knwo when. This last trick i discovered will reduce final time. I'm planing Golden Tower, the blue tigger is long to plan. After that, there is the Minotaur N°2, then the espion, then the clones, then aegagropilion. After that, there is a second part to plan with magic. Meka#3 and the boss just before are long to plan. After that Pureland, i think it will be not too hard. I don't know if we can kill Mana Beast with Dryad L3 with emulator. Lots of things to be seen. I hope Mana Beast's Lucent Beam are manipulables... Well i let you.

Is there anyone that is serious making a TAS of SoM (SD2) right now!? I planing on do a test on it to see if I'm capable to do it. Just want to give credit to Seiken for the amazing Speedrun video of it! I have watched it a couple of time now and I'm impressed that you could make it in that few segments because of the bad hit glitches that is in the game.

I wish I could give you a comment, unfortunately the video desyncs for me as well even though I am using the correct rom version. Unfortunately I don't understand anything about that Multitab or Multitap thing to correct it. There is a lot I don't understand about Emulators and TASing...

You don't need to understand it... I don't see why you would, anyway. Have you tried letting the ROM play/load for ten seconds before starting the movie? Edit: Gorash's (Randil's?) test runs work fine as long as you have "enable multitap" checked before loading the smv.

Yes! Of course a joke, but it would be much better to use the english version because Secret of Mana, as a big RPG game, has many text dialogues which should be possible to read for the majority of watchers. I would highly recommend to not use the japanese version, which only very few people can read. We have this problem with the Chrono Trigger run as well shortly, and I don't get why everybody is so obsessed to use a japanese version on this kind of games. We should aim to make our runs internationally enjoyable, which isn't the case by using a japanese version.
