With the two game TAS, would a glitchless, single input, double game TAS be interesting to watch? Basically, It'd be along the lines of the Final Fantasy double TAS that was recently posted. I believe this is what PikachuMan was getting at, but would anyone be interested in this? If so, I might look into actually trying out a test run of this idea as soon as I get my new laptop. EDIT: Just realized glitchless might take a lot of entertainment out because of leveling Pokemon to evolutionary levels vs. rare candies and other glitches. Perhaps a minimal glitch run would be in order? As in, no abusing missingno forms to get the 'dex filled. I would actually catch, and own, every pokemon in the game at one point or another.

Looking at PikachuMan's catch-'em'all route, one nitpick; you don't need to duplicate Moon Stones. IIRC, there are three available in the game, which would be used on a Nidorina, Nidorino, and Clefairy, while you can catch Wigglytuff in the Cerulean Cave/Unknown Dungeon instead of using a Moon Stone on Jigglypuff. Also, I would think that this run should end at the Programmers' Building in Celadon City (with talking to the guy who congratulates you for getting all 150) instead of after the Elite 4 plus Rival.

Well, actually there are five: another one hidden in Mount Moon and a hidden one in the Pokémon Mansion. Still, maybe it would be simpler to just capture Wigglytuff.
Why, oh, why do I even <i>try</i> to understand my own species?

It's been a while since I started a test run aiming to 100% pokemon blue. However, I stopped doing it because I made a big mistake. It seems that the Pewter boy doesn't restore your buttons after Trainer-Fly in R/B like I expected, so that would add some additional trainer battles to the run. Well, a few days ago, I resumed working on it, even with this mistake, and it shouldn't take too much work to finish. Anyway, here it goes: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1674883831/pokemonblue100test.vbm This WIP is right after catching Mewtwo in Unknown Dungeon, and has 84 pokemon caught at around 2:30 hours. It's really sloppy because I didn't bother to optimize luck manipulation and I kept changing the route a little during the run (it's almost impossible to know every detail beforehand, thus the meaning of the test run). For 100% completion, I'm considering: Complete Pokedex All 8 badges, E4 and Champion beaten Battle all legendaries and the optional rival and Giovanni fights (optional bosses) Get all HMs and legal Key Items Get the Diploma Let me know what you guys think about it.

Well, it seems microstorage is down right now for some reason... Anyway, here goes the file: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=MV5KD4F4 I forgot to catch a Seadra in Unknown Dungeon in the last file. This has been corrected now. I also forgot to evolve Charmeleon way behind (xD) and had to do this now. It cost like 3 secs, I think. Almost finishing, I have 134 pokemon at aprox 3:30 hours and have just finished the most annoying part of the run. I hate so much manipulating DVs. Encounters on the Cinnabar coast are very rare. I lost around 10 secs manipulating each fight, I better start thinking of a script for that ^^. I think I can get sub 4 hours in this test. There's only mansion, two gyms and pokemon league left to do in ~30 mins. However, I'm starting to doubt if this TAS will be accepted. The run pushes viewer's patience to its limits, repetitive Trainer-Fly's and Old man lessons are annoying, and so are the infinite Rare Candies I had to give my pokemon.

Test run finished at 4:00:49 http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/965372204/pokeblue100_TAS_v1.vbm Too bad I didn't beat the 4-hour mark in TAS time. The run served its purpose though. I've already found several ways of improving it and I might do some testing. I hope v22 has better Lua implementation, I've experienced some desyncs with v21. I'll try to rewrite the route now. Also, sorry for triple-posting ^^

What's up guys? Over the last month or so p4wn3r and I have been working on the "Gotta Catch Em' All!" run together. Progress has been great and despite a few RNG related setbacks we are as far as the SS Anne. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/824232114/POKEBLUE.vbm The goal of this run is to beat the Elite Four as fast as possible with a completed pokedex. A few notes (this will be elaborated on further in the submission text): - When you use a wild pokemon for its attack modifier, catching it causes the attack modifier to be reset. This is why we do not catch geodude or bellsprout at those opportunities. - The rhydon that we catch is a real rhydon as far as the game's memory is concerned. Rhydon is hex no. 1 and so the game automatically changes certain missingnos into rhydons and you can see it in the status screen (which we obviously don't do). We think that you will be pleasantly surprised with the glitchiness here. - On route 25 we catch caterpie and weedle. The caterpie generation went well, but there are not many A presses in this battle to shift the RNG D-Sum far enough to catch a weedle. We therefore had to insert a second or so of delay to wait for the RNG to move into the correct range as we had to encounter the bellsprout last. - We ran many tests and are now absolutely convinced that the game does not allow you to encounter another pokemon within three tiles of an encounter. This is why we move erratically through the route 25 grass. - The rocket that gives you TM28 does not reset your start button as he does not walk to you. Therefore the forced trainers outside Vermillion have to walk to us or the game will crash. Enjoy the WIP and any feedback that you would like to give would be great!

I just watched that WIP... I like it a lot! In fact when it ended after the SS Anne I wanted to see more. Please continue this. Also, am I the only one who watches long pokémon movies at 300% speed (at least)?

I hate to sound like a complete n00b, but how do I view a .vbm file? I know I need VisualBoyAdvance, but I have no idea which version or where to download it from.

You can find the latest version of each emulator at this page: http://tasvideos.org/EmulatorResources.html Unless otherwise noted, the official version (which we don't have here) does not work with these movies.

I downloaded this file: http://vba-rerecording.googlecode.com/files/vba-rerecording-svn220-win32.zip Is that right? I dragged Mukki's .vbm file to that version of VisualBoyAdvance and now it's asking me to locate a ROM.

I have played with the ROM below in the past, is that the right one? Pokemon Blue (UA) (S)(!)

Hint: Find the ROM yourself. But for me at least,
Pokemon - Blue Version (UE) [S][!].gb
works.

Bad news for anyone accompanying this. Today, I've encountered a horrible bug which made it impossible to continue with the current route. Apparently, the game crashes whenever you try to take a Lv1 pokemon from a box, includeing our Mew. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/487820238/POKEBLUE.vbm Now, we're gonna have to redo everything from route 25's grass. (And after I spent the whole day hex editing the movie to manipulate that annoying L15 Drowzee...)

Some weeks after the last movie posted, we've arrived at Cycling Road. We now have 29 pokémon registered, but this number is going to raise dramatically from now on, the next parts are where catching starts for real ^^ Cake. (which is a LOT different from pie) Also, it's worth noting that this WIP arrives at Cycling Road only three minutes slower than the first published TAS of Pokémon RBY, that didn't use glitches. Thanks for the encode, Critical Five! This time, the movie can finish the game ;) Unless it crashes again in the next five minutes... EDIT: An improvement has been found close to the end of this WIP, redoing...

So, why did you glitch Cubone? Can't you catch him in the Pokemon tower? Or are you not going there? EDIT: Oh, right, the Silph Scope. Yeah, definitely faster to glitch them, then.

No we're not. Even if we did go straight there you cannot catch anything without the Silph Scope and to get that we'd have to complete the game corner storyline. It is much faster to just trainer-fly the tower pokemon.

I just wanted to say, I like how this movie is going. Plenty of breezy story battling, plenty of glitches, and seeing all the Pokemon will make this very fun to watch, even if I've fallen too far behind on learning routes and new techniques for this game to offer any advice.

Your latest WIP works on VBA 1.7.2+ v19.3, but causes v22 to crash. Any idea why this might be? Additionally, holy shit am I impressed. Keep up the good work!

It works fine for me on v22. I've been using the temporary v23 to TAS it because of better Lua implementation. I don't know what version Mukki has been using or if it may be the cause of your problem. It's strange though, I thought latest releases changed only GBA emulation. I'll try to keep up the good work, I'm currently running it very slowly, though. This semester surely isn't TAS-friendly.

Could you please post your route so far? If you don't mind. I'm not sure if it's an unwritten rule or something to ask for the runner to post his route before finishing the run, so if it is, I apologize. I ask, because I can't quite figure out how to get your dehacked rom thing to work. I've read the explanation given in this thread, however, I'm having a hard time visualizing exactly what to do. I know I need to download the rom of this game, however, I don't know what exact option to click once I'm on the VBA menu. And, can I even use the VBA emulator? Or do I need to download a GB only emulator?
