It should work with glide64 and a voodoo wrapper like L4yer said. I do plan to finish this run one day, it seems to have a lot of potential to make an entertaining tas.

I've decided to work on a TAS of this game, myself, if that's okay with you, hero. I loved this game when I was younger, and still rememer it well, and I would very much like to make a run of it as my first TAS, since you aren't working on yours at the moment. I'm about halfway through the first page at the moment.

heck yea, its okay with me! Remember to compare frame counts with my run as you go along. Though mine was just a test run, it is pretty optimized for the first 2 pages. Good luck, I am looking forward to seeing this.

Thanks! And yeah, that's what I have been doing. Your run looked fantastic by the way. I'm currently 38 frames ahead of it, I believe. =P I'm just at the Egg in Surprise. I'll post of Work In Progress when this level is done.

Raiscan and I had troubles up the wazoo getting this game to run somewhat normally... what ROM/plugins/settings do you have?

I know what you mean, every video plugin I tried, except one, caused it to screw up horrendously, as well as causing extreme lag. These're the plugins I'm using. Video: Jabo's Direct3D6 1.5.2 Input: N-Rage's Direct Input8 1.60 Sound: Jabo's DirectSound 1.6 RSP: RSP emulation plugin I would normally use the TAS Input 0.6 plugin, but I think this game is a bit easier to make a run of if you don't use it, for some reason. Also, I have a question. I noticed in hero's run, after the egg, he pounded, then sort of got out of the pounding "state" immediately (there was no smoke on the ground or anything). How did you do that? I bet it's really obvious and I'm just overlooking something. >_> Edit: Ignore that problem I was having. It turned out I just pounded too early. *slaps forehead*

WIP ready. Surprise!! is done. I got it 198 frames faster than hero's run. =D http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/4796/YOSHI%20STORY%20%28USA%29%20Swordless%20Link.m64 Any comments and criticisms are appreciated, but I think overall it looks good.

I just got a chance to watch this, and it looks damn good. Remember that you may run into problems on page 5, since you selected the melon as your favorite fruit instead of the grapes. You might want to look ahead and see if it is a problem. You are making fast progress btw, at this rate you will be finished in a week.

o_O Why would that be a problem? What would it cause to happen? I watched the SDA run of this game again...I don't think it matters which fruit you choose at the beginning of the game, because the fruit numbers won't change. Only the fruit itself will. And thanks for the comment. :)

There are some fruits that are automatically set to your lucky fruit. If you get 6 of the same fruit in a row, you get an invincibility fruit that lets you turn Shyguys into fruits. If you have a different lucky fruit, you might have a harder time getting the same fruit six times in a row.

Hmm, okay...But after watching the SDA run again, I noticed that he gets a heart on page 5, and not 6 of the same fruit (at least not while he doesn't already have the heart)... I'm kinda confused here. What do you guys think would be the best opiton? I can't really see how choosing the grapes over the melon would make it any faster.

I think the author of the run on the SDA is a female. Like kirbymuncher said, the purpose of the grapes is generate another heart. You need 6 of the same fruits in a row. The grape happens to be conveniently laid in a position where collecting it would complete the row of 6. If you use melon as your lucky fruit, you would have to skip over the grape because it would ruin your row of melons. The only way to avoid this is if you can do the entire stage using just 1 heart instead of 2 like in the SDA run. I never got to this point in my run, so I don't know if it is possible. I would suggest that you try that level now, and determine if it is possible.

See, that's what I was thinking...If it WOULD be possible to do it with just one heart...I'll test. Edit: Okay, after watching her run again, I realise that the distance covered with both hearts SHOULD definitely be possible with one heart in a TAS. The worst that could happen would be that I have to get the one of the light-green melons that's in a bubble (the one she gets right as the heart power dies down) using an egg, which is no problem, since I'd break the bubble as well as eat the melon in one jump. So I'm glad to say that I'm continuing as of now. I'll make backup copies when I get to page 5 just in case, at which point I will experiment again. If it turns out that I DO need to grapes (which I doubt) I'll hex edit a few blank frames in, so the part where I select the fruit takes longer, and hence I take the grapes.

Ever since that was revealed, he stopped going on the SDA forum.

Well, thanks for letting me know. I find that kind of behavior to be pretty strange, maybe that explains why its name was strangenessDSS.

"Astra Piper" was just a pseudonym he made to cover up his identity.

Yeah, how do you know it isn't the other way around, and Matthew was just the pseudonym? Or maybe they're both pseudonyms!

>_> Well, that was interesting. On topic: I've decided to just restart, getting the grapes. I'm too paranoid about what could happen, and I have another idea for that level anyway, which you'll see when I get there. I'd also like to thank AKA for helping me edit my old m64 to try and make him select the grapes, even although it desynced right afterwards. =/

Perhaps. But I just finished Surprise!! with grapes as my favourite, and managed to get it 20 frames faster than my previous one! =) Here's a WIP: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/4855/YOSHI%20STORY%20%28USA%29.m64 Comments and criticisms will be welcomed.

Haven't watch it yet, but another 20 frames is really impressive. I think it was a good choice to go for the grapes, it is better to be safe than sorry half way through the run.
