I was just wondering how do run a recorded .GMV file as I have done a dummy run on Sonic 1 Act 1 purely using slow down with no re-record. I can't get the file to run at all and also I can't get FRAPS to work with Gens_Movie emu either.

CPU -> Record new movie Doesn't get much more straightforward than this.

Did you try the FAQ? Because your question is answered at http://tasvideos.org/GMV.html, which is linked from the FAQ. Also, next time you post a question, please indicate the subject of the question in the topic title. "Sorry to be asking this" does not describe what your problem is about. "How to play a GMV file?" would describe it very well. This is common netiquette. (Reference: http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html#bespecific)

Sorry, I badly worded the question. How do you run .GEN on a movie player e.g. Divx or Media Player.

You don't. You load it in the emulator. There is no video or audio content in the GMV file. The GMV file only contains a sequence of input to the game controller (joypad(s)). The video and audio content comes from the ROM (the game itself), which can only be handled by the emulator. (I assume you meant GMV when you said GEN.)

You can, but you need to have the emulator do it. The GMV file simply says Up, Up+Right, Right, Right+A, B, etc.

My logical guess is that you record the whole movie into a GMV file and then use FRAPS to capture the finished live action movie. The problem is that GEN emu just disables FRAPS when I hit the hotkey in order to capture it to AVI.

it can't seriously get much more straightforward than this.

We use emulators to record the .avi. We don't use external recorders, because they don't know whether the emulation skips or duplicates frames.

Is there a fast-forward option when you're playing a GMV file? I've looked around and I can't find one... it would be nice for getting through long level transitions.

F4 = increase speed F3 = decrease speed F2 = reset speed to 100%
