I thought the meaning of this topic was to replace all fmv by FCM. All FDS, including SMB2j suffers from that which I still have done. But it's not a good reason to remove eggerland and the other one from the list. Otherwise, that topic is almost 100% pointless. Famtasia is indeed way too quick for FDS loading disk emulation. And FCEU is a little, not so much, too slow if IIRC from what _Q said some years ago. So FCEU is closer to emulation.

Added eggerland & solomon's key back. And changed the name to reflect that it is simply a obsolete all famtasia movies with FCEU movies.

How is Bubble Bobble going to be obsoleted? We could try a warped run, but manipulating umbrellas requires popping water bubbles, so it would involve just standing around and waiting for enough water bubbles to float onscreen, so that would be even MORE boring than it is already. On a lighter note, you could manipulate shoes on the first few levels by bubble-jumping, so that could be a major improvement.

Since when does NES bubble bobble have the mechanics of the Arcade version?

My guess is that since it was ported. The NES version has all those attributes CAD described.

Oh yeah... In the arcade version you run around on the bottom of the screen to trigger shoes, and you jump on bubbles to trigger Yellow candy.

And fall through the bottom of the screen about 14-15 times to trigger a Magic Potion that fills the screen with specialized symbols to grab, and of course a 100,000 bonus for getting them all. Mr. Kelly R. Flewin

I don't think a warps run would obsolete a warpless run. Wouldn't it be obsoleted by, you know, more accurate, tweaked playing?

Well, seeing that the current Bubble Bobble run has been repeatedly nominated for things like a "golden feces award" and "first TAS I fell asleep to" over the years, and currently has an abysmal score, I was thinking it could possibly be made more entertaining by using warps. But, I guess it was not meant to be.

The Bubble Bobble run was the very first one which I did not watch in its entirety (before it I had watched every single AVI publishes in this site thoroughly). No offense to the author of the run, but the game choice was extremely poor. It's just way too long and way too repetitive and with too long waits. IMO while *usually* warp-runs should not obsolete non-warp-runs as a generic principle, this game specifically should be an exception.

May I suggest we try to obsolete all runs from 2005 and earlier?

I guess I could update this page to include 2005 movies, there's quite a few more though.

Maybe rename the pages movies we'd like obsoleted, and then in it list the 2004 and 2005 section, stating we weren't as good back then as we are now.

I shotgun the game "smart ball". I found a neat speed freeze trick and have saved 140 frames on the published run by nitsuja in the first level.

We are down to 2! I have WIPs of Solomon's Key and Bubble bobble if anyone is interesting in contributing.

I found it more attracting to obsolete these new .fm2 movies instead.
<klmz> it reminds me of that people used to keep quoting adelikat's IRC statements in the old good days <adelikat> no doubt <adelikat> klmz, they still do

I personally think that the only way to TAS Solomon's Key efficiently, (i.e. not having to spend 20+ hours on one level due to horrible randomness, which has happened to me), you need to fully understand the game's randomness - both in terms of what affects randomness, how it affects it, and what factors are affectable by randomness. I think this feat will take some ROM hacking skills (Bisqwit has made some progress, see this post.) I think it will also be necessary to somehow track the RNG of the game, so you know the RNG-state of the game at any frame in the movie. The feat described above is beyond my level, but if someone were to do the above and explain it to me, I might consider (at least helping out) TASing the game. I can't really stress the importance of cracking the game's RNG before starting a Solomon's Key TAS. Just jumping into the game, even if you have some new strategies at hand, will likely end in despair due to the game's randomness taunting you. With all this said, I would like to see a Solomon's Key run! I think Solomon's Key would make a nice team project/competition for a group of TASers.

So, Is there still interest of obsoleting Solomon's Key? I remember TASing Room 1 and posting on the forums if anyone wants to start.
