Argh. You gained the frame early in the level when you didn't have to jump over a bullet at frame ~1860-ish. You could do this because you didn't pick up the "rapid fire" powerup, so your bullet traveled slower and you were able to kill the guy before he was able to shoot. However, in my defense, I kill every enemy and every turret without wasting any time (more than that 1 frame). To be honest, I think it looks much awesomer (I know it's not a word) this way. http://fast.filespace.org/blublu/Contra__U_.fcm

How many rapid-fire power-ups can you get, anyway?

Yes your movie does look more awsome than mine, but I still think both movies can be improved at the boss fight. I dont know why but I think genisto defeats it faster.

Are you sure? It looks just about exactly the same to me. You can use the ball-launcer things as a comparison. They release three balls, then the boss dies as the fourth is *just* about to appear. Not a perfect timing method, but it shows that it is at least very close (0-3 frames).

Shouldn't this discussion be moved to Contra topic?

I was thinking about creating a new thread myself, but I didn't bother to do so because I'm unmotivated to continue. At least for a while.

I made a better run of that some time ago... for VirtuaNES, though. =P Wasn't perfect by any means, but at least I actually DID get the best ending. Perfecting a run like that is rather difficult, really, since it involves finding the fastest way to get exactly 200000pts before the final stage.

I am working on a new run of Deadly Towers. I already have several improvements to the route, and it should be at least 2 minutes shorter than the previous video.

Yes, I noticed some jumps seem to cost you 1 frame, so I'm jumping as little as I can. I had the impression that the game had already been squeezed dry of frames, but maybe not... I've finished level 1 at 4085 frames (when the guy disappears into the base) and I'm currently downloading the old avi file to compare (there is NO way I'm ever using Famtasia again).
Never use AVI's made with Famtasia to compare movies. Sorry but you have no choice but to use FMV to compare movies.

I'm not doing that run anymore, so it's not an issue. Even if I was continuing, I still wouldn't use Famtasia. I just won't use it again. Ever.

Are you going to remove entries from the list after they are published? That way we could visually work toward a smaller list, yay for motivation :) Bucky O’Hare & Hudson's Adventure Island 3 are both published as of this post.

yes I plan on removing them when they are published, I guess I missed those being published, updating... [Edit: Getting smaller already, 3 down, 57 to go....] [Edit2: 1 more down, busy day for publishing]

Woo-hoo! Looking forward to a 100% Metroid run. (Crosses fingers that it's in the original suit. Though it should be possible to hex-edit the .fcm file and remove the entry of the password?). Hoepfully we'll also see someone put together a complete run of Zelda II as well as a run of the original Zelda's second quest. :D (I would seriously love to take on one of these, but my skills have faded immensely and wouldn't get much accomplished). :D

Nah, I was reading in the other topic that the timing of the password affected random stuff.

Damn. Ah well. I guess I'll have to break out Metroid and put together a super long not at all speedy attack in order to see the game completed in the original suit. :-) Though I now wonder if it would be possible to edit the movie file and replace some of the button presses with a "nothing" code so that instead of going into the game and pressing down and start then entering the password, the file just has the controller motionless for that period of time until the actual game start was scheduled to occur. Ahhh. My brain hurts just thinking about it. :-D

It's going to be suitful run, but it's in hold at the moment. Hopefully I get my nerves back in one piece soon and continue that run. And like Bag said, it's not possible to hex-edit the password input because it affects random factors (I think).

No rush. Take your time on it. I've got a 100% suitless run that I downloaded in order to see the game finished 100%, so a suited run would just be a cosmetic thing that would be nice to have. It's good to hear that somebody is working on it though. Again, it's no rush. (I've realized that even if it were possible to hex-edit out the entry of the password, in the time it would take for me to accomplish that the suited run would be released anyway. :-D ).

I wonder what is adelikat's stance to the fact that I obsoleted a Famtasia movie… with another Famtasia movie :)

I might try Wizards & Warriors (1) sometime in the future. I probably wouldn't be able to get started on it before this summer, though.
