As of right now there is 0!!: [EDIT - began with 60] 05/04/2011 - This list was completed Famtasia is an obsolete emulator. We now have new tools for greater accuracy such as frame counter, frame advance, read only mode playing, etc. While these runs are not necessarily imperfect, it is likely that with new & better tools one could find improvements in many of them. I challenge every one on this site to take one or more of these game and attempt to improve them (especially those who are authors of some these runs). Hopefuly this challenge will result in a higher quality site and greater TAS skills of those who participate. Some movies have improved runs waiting in queue (go vote)and are marked with *. The bolded ones are actively being improved. If anyone decides to take up this challenge post what game you want to work on! If you are already working on one, let me know and I will mark it accordingly. I haven't noted who is working on them so if you want to keep it on the down low, you can PM me). I want to see a bold or * by all of these soon! (or better yet a smaller list because they've been submitted, accepted, and published) Bold movies that are actively being improved (to my knowledge) Linked: an .fcm movie waiting in queue (please go vote!) ** + linked =in queue and accepted for publication

Im interested in Ghosts n Goblins. Edit: Once Im done working on all Mega Man runs, I'll either work on this, or Super R-Type or something else with Baxter.

I'm trying something else right now but I encourage everyone else to participate in this. I would also suggest to adelikat that instead of using a "!" in the list, use bold or italic, because the "!" isn't that easily noticeable.

Your list says there is a Castlevania 1 run by Phil & Genisto in the queue, but I don't see it in there.

I will do Rush'n Attack and Ghosts 'n Goblins. I think Rush'n Attack is the more improvable movie of the two.

I'm working on Tiny Toon as we speak, so I'll take care of that one. If anyone's interested you can see the current WIP here. I'm making a Solstice improvement too, so I got that covered too. EDIT: I just got an idea, I think it would be a good idea to make links to all of these "famtasia improvements" movies that are currently in the workbench, so people can find them easier.

I've bolded the runs Arc & Randil mentioned also Randil, linking them is a good idea thanks. I'll try to keep this list updated, including links to new submission and removing published runs. Hopefully one day this list will be gone!

If I understand correctly, the new Zanac run wouldn't replace the old run because it doesn't play the game from start to finish and is therefore in a different category... right?

while its technically different category, I think it can obsolete the former especially under these circumstances.

Meh, I'd rather see you improve the full with-warps run... Just playing one level is silly.

then vote no on the submission (i'd rather receive a "no" vote rather than the submission get ignored) This game gets boring quickly. All the levels are the same, so whats the point in playing the other levels. While I fell the one in que should be published in place of my full run, I will work on a full run improvement If I get enough feedback telling me to do so, so go vote :)

Wow, nice initiative there. :) With all the new submissions for unknown and generally uninteresting games, I think bringing up some old ones a few notches is a very good idea. Bisqwit is (was?) working on improving his Solomon's key movie, but the new one will be 100%. Don't know if that qualifies for the list. The movie that irks me the most is probably Icarus 100%, since it doesn't even get the best ending. That should be obsoleted quickly or removed altogether...

Sleepz' RCR run kicks ass. It's one of my all-time favorites, so I'm trying to do a 2 player run to obsolete it, but I've got too much on my plate with real life. Argh.

Okay, I'll try to improve Genisto's Contra movie. Don't get your hopes up, though. That movie is pretty tightly optimized and I'm not too sure I can improve it by even a single frame. :/ I will probably give up after the first level.

You could also try improving the two-player run if that doesn't work out, though I'm not sure the game really needs it.

I have already started a 2 players run of it, it's probably somewhere on the NES forums. But i gave up because it lags too much. Anyway, i found a bug that saves some time, so the 1p version can be remade. edit: here is the thread: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1346&highlight=ransom

About the Contra movie, a long time ago I got the silly idea to improve it, but I was way slower than him on the first boss... However, I noticed that a few frames can be saved by jumping less. I'm not sure, but I think you loose 1 frames each time you jump (at least with some jumps)... I've lost the movie, but I believe I was about 15-20 frames faster than him once I got to the first boss... So that wasn't such a great improvement. Well, if you decide to improve it, I will be very interested in seeing it. :)

Yes, I noticed some jumps seem to cost you 1 frame, so I'm jumping as little as I can. I had the impression that the game had already been squeezed dry of frames, but maybe not... I've finished level 1 at 4085 frames (when the guy disappears into the base) and I'm currently downloading the old avi file to compare (there is NO way I'm ever using Famtasia again).

Okay, I took the liberty of timing it, and Genisto enters the building (the first frame the character disappears from the screen) on frame 4088, possibly 4087, I'm not sure I stopped the movie on the exact frame. I sure hate timing Famtasia movies.

I was working on contra a couple weeks ago but stopped because I had trouble optmizing the level1 boss. I go into the base (disappear) at 4084 frames, which is 1 frame faster than you blublu. While I am sure that the level was played faster than genisto's, I am not sure if my boss fight was as quick. Without a frame counter on famtasia it is very difficult to compare movies. Here is what I had done so far: Right here Edit: Now that Randil timed it, I know that my boss fight can be improved.
They're off to find the hero of the day...
