Highness: yea, or like 'to be encoded in the year 2015' or something to show low priority.

Here's what I'm wondering. I brought this up in IRC yesterday but didn't receive a response. There exists at least one run currently (and others in the past) which is both approved and encoded, but not published. What the hell could be the point of this? Atma told me it takes an average of four minutes to publish an already-accepted, already-encoded movie. Four minutes? (EDIT for clarity) Could any publisher please explain why they haven't taken the four minutes to make these runs published? I think it's extremely demoralizing to those who do runs to be stuck in YET ANOTHER type of submission limbo. I asked Bisqwit about Aqfaq's run of Gods, which was approved by Truncated and encoded by Guybrush, and he said "I was hoping someone else would publish it." What am I missing here? Do we need yet another category of people who can take four minutes out of their schedule to publish already-approved, already-encoded runs?

And I'm wondering why it still hasn't happened. It's not likely the others have the same reason as I do. This is the only case where that applies. There are no other movies that are not being published despite having been encoded. (At least that I know.) It is not a general direction.

I'm curious about the reason behind this.

There have been some in the past, such as Smash TV, Castlevania CotM, and SMB2(U) warpless (I think...but I may be mistaking this for something else). I remember Maza encoded quite a few runs and would post "I've encoded this, so any publisher can get the avi from me." Followed by much of nothing. So I was just curious as to why that kind of thing was happening.

Maza has encoded many movies without informing any publishers about it -- often when the movie isn't even accepted yet. Posting about it on the forums does not accomplish that.

Accomplish what? Publicly posting on the forums should get the word out that a run is encoded. But if posting isn't doing the job as you claim, then maybe submissions should have a category of "encoded"? I can't think of a more effective way of letting publishers know than that, short of beating them all over the head with it relentlessly, which is annoying I'm sure, but COME ON, IT TAKES FOUR MINUTES. I also don't remember any cases where encoding happened before acceptance. And if Maza has the time to do that, then what is the problem with doing so? Encoding a run before its fate is final carries some risk for the encoder, as they may be wasting their own time. They certainly aren't wasting yours. Despite your complaints (EDIT, removed portion for better clarity), Maza did encode some movies. The whole publishing situation is a problem that I believe should have some serious attention directed at it instead of making some piss-poor excuses. Any other publishers want to add their 2 cents?

Maza hasn't encoded any runs that haven't been accepted yet, and he has always informed at the forums or at IRC. I've myself encoded couple of runs and I know how annoying it is to encode for nothing when you can't publish those movies on your own. And then people complain when noone encodes anything, Maza encodes like crazy but there isn't anyone to publish those AVIs... Damn it, I need some sleep...

I don't read all posts in all threads. If something is directed to me, and it isn't a reply to my earlier message in the same thread, the best way to get it through is to /msg it to me in IRC. But I don't speak on behalf of the other publishers.

Nobody thought about sending you a private message on the forum?
No.

I have been recently endowed by the great chancellor with Judging privledges. Like truncated, I will give preference to older submissions. If anyone has any special requests, make them here. I am not above bribery. I prefer under the table cash, but I could be persuaded to taking other forms ;)

That's for Bisqwit, not adelikat.

I figured I would resurrect this thread as an homage to those that have come before me. I am also now a judge (obligatory woohoo!) I anticipate learning how to encode sometime in the next few months, but for the time being, I'll simply be accepting/rejecting runs and freeing up time for other encoders. If you have any comments, please feel free to contact me directly on IRC or via forum PM.

I'm wondering whether if I finish my Lode Runner run and submit it, mmbossman will watch it and change its status in 2 months, since he seems to be the only one who is interested in that run. :p You know we players are always waiting for the judgement.
<klmz> it reminds me of that people used to keep quoting adelikat's IRC statements in the old good days <adelikat> no doubt <adelikat> klmz, they still do

This thread seems like the only appropriate place to post this question, but... did I miss something? The submission queue was huge, and then all of a sudden the encoders took steroids, and now the submission queue is the emptiest I've even seen. WTF happened?

We got tired of seeing a huge list of things needed to be done. At last count there were 17 publications in the past 4 days, with a total of 3 rejections in that span. Also, thanks for noticing :) It's nice to be appreciated, or at least acknowledged (massive thanks also to Raiscan and adelikat, for doing most of the actual work).
