Is there any place where I can post videos of cool runs that aren't exactly time-attacks, but where I do cool things (like going through a game without killing a single enemy) things like that? I made a video that is about 2-3 minutes longer than the time attack record on this site, but it's pretty cool and looks a lot more "professional"...

I am not sure what you are so upset about. I am just saying that I made a movie that looks interesting and is played better than the one on the site, but isn't a time breaker and I wanted to know if there was any place that people post things like that.

i think thats a good idea myself. have a speed run section like the site is now, but just add up another part that has special runs like without killing a single enemy, or mega man done using nothing but normal blaster (with the exception of when the rush parts need to be used) that would be pretty cool to see i think.

as beating a horse to death. Where videos are awe inspiring, or awesome.. they may be submitted to Bisqwit here, in FMV format, as in the submitting section of the FAQ. I have thought of making my own tracker to supplement, or spread out load on some of my favorite trackers, however, that prospect is dependent on several factors. BitTorrent is good for popular downloads, with >1 seed. This eliminates roughly 1/3 - 1/2 of the bandwidth off a SINGLE server. These types of torrents, as in the movies are very good with multiple seeds. Back to submitting to Bisqwit for inclusion here, make sure to include details about what makes your movie special. Other than that, catch us on IRC, we're normally around in some regard.

None of the movies here are professional. This is a HOBBY, and no one is paid for their movies.. particularly since even the worst gamer could eventually produce [assuming there aren't desynch problems, etc] even better runs than the versions here, thanks to slow-motion and re-recording. The label "professional" can be applied to those people who dedicate so much time and effort that they can do these things on the native console (or for-profit). These movies are exceptional in their performance, but there's nothing professional about them. It would be nice if the site could be split into different sections.. which would alleviate the tension that currently exists between some creators and some visitors..

I agree that a split would solve all these problems..... the visitor (user) of a site has full capability to leave.. and should if they disagree. Enough said (IMO, of course). I think there's already enough of this elsewhere, so to bring it here.. only serves to make this place the same as everything else (related content)... [See my above <rant>] :) Thanks for visiting, and enjoy your stay.

First, a professional isn't just somebody who gets paid to do what they do. Another definition is that a professional is an expert on a subject matter. Second, it is disrespectful, or at least poor etiquette, for a stranger to come into a community and imply that he is in some way better than everyone else.

What is everyone's problem? He made a cool video and wants to show it. His run might look cooler than the current one. Everyone is being a total ass to him. Maybe proggesional was not the right word, but you dont need to jump all over him because of it.

"Proggesional" is never the right word. ^_^ Seriously though, if you want to submit a movie, submit it. If you're not going for speed, say so. If Bisqwit likes it, he'll post it.

I didn't mean to piss anyone off. I love most of the videos on this site; I think they're fun to watch. I also didn't mean to imply that my videos are better or whatever you think... Like I said 3 times, I just wanted to know if there was any place for non time attack movies. If you want to know what game I am talking about- it's the Contra video by Genisto where he just constantly fires with multifire on. I mean, sure it's pretty damn fast (pretty close to the fastest you could get) but I made a video that isn't quite as fast (so wouldn't go on the site) but the accuracy is around 100% without a single wasted bullet. It's cool to watch in it's own way, not saying that it's better or whatever.

If I remember correctly Bisqwit had a lot of reservations about posting that one because of the constant autofire. So if you video isn't too much slower he may at least co-publish it.

You already said it's more accurate, so why not redo the run to improve your time if it's a couple minutes slower than Genisto's? Wouldn't that be considered "professional"?

Genisto can do this kind of thing a lot faster than this.So I think it should be improved

I dunno, I actually think it's kinda funny to watch the bullets spray all over the place. But maybe that's just me.

Wouldn't having all those bullets on the screen cause the game to lag?

"Jumping all over him" may, in my opinion, be justified. When he said that his video looks more professional he directly implied that the timeattack is amateurish and imperfect. Regardless of whether he did this on purpose or not, that was a direct insult to the author of the timeattack. In practice he is saying "I can make a video which looks a lot better than yours, thus your video sucks", and he did not mean that he can make the timeattack faster, but more "professional-looking", whatever that means. By this he did not only insult the maker of the video in question, but all timeattackers. He implied that making a timeattack is amateurish and looks bad (umprofessional), and that making it "the right way" is much better. Thus he was (again, consciously or unconsciously) despising what we are doing. He might not have done it on purpose, but he did it nevertheless. Telling him his mistake is justified, in my opinion.

when using "professional" in terms with nes speed runs, this means a few things to me personaly. 1.) wastes no time anywhere. even at places where waiting cant be helped, the player disguises this. 2.) every jump, and movement is for a reason. no random jumping. when waiting for something to happen (waiting for a platform to move into jumping range or so on) then i dont mind at all. 3.) every bullet/shot is counted for. as in the mega man series, every blaster shot connects with an enemy. no spare shots flying off the screen. 4.) conserves all health unless it is to save time. 5.) no glitches, unless it speeds up time significantly, or unless the point is to do a speed run/glitch run like the super mario bros. 1 video that shows nearly every possible trick and finishes in 12min. now they are just my personal thoughts. i'm not claiming any 1 video is better than another, but there are a few videos on this site that to me make all these points. (the mega man 3 - 6 movies) so to say that 1 video is more "professional" is simply a matter of taste. everyone has diffrent aspects on what they define to be professional.

How about we all stop taking offense at stuff?

For those who can't stop taking offense yet, how about we add a new phrase to the speed-run lexicon: clean run. A very clean run would be one where the player doesn't waste bullets or make unnecessary jumps. On the other hand a not-so-clean run would be something like Genisto's Contra video. I don't want to say it's "sloppy", which is what you'd think of as the opposite to a clean run, because I sure as heck don't have the time to do it as well as he does... I digress. To clear up semantic issues, shall we use the phrase "clean run" or "cleaner run" to describe a playthrough with fewer unnecessary actions?
