Great job so far jyzero..especially with the frame advance addition. I don't know if I'm in any position to make requests, but would it be possible to add 'continuous' frame advancement by holding down the frame advance key (like in snes9x) rather than pushing it over and over?

Hi, been using this for a while (since 9a) and have a very simple but annoying problem: When I go to Play Movie, it goes out of fullscreen, and if I click on "..." and load a movie it goes into fullscreen and I cannot do anything with Gens, so I have to end process it. So I have to copy and paste the path to the movie and it is very annoying as I cannot paste a path to a savestate, so I have to fast-forward to where I got to if I need to re-record. It would also be useful to "mark" frames by saving savestates and quickly navigating between them with keyboard shortcuts. This would be more useful than playing from a savestate IMO.

If you check the box for read-only, you can load any savestate during movie playback to jump to that point. Very handy. The fullscreen thing sounds like a bug. I never use fullscreen, so I wouldn't know. Maybe you can load your roms, movies and savestates in windowed mode and switch as soon as the movie starts?

Yes, but if it isn't checked and you load a savestate, it starts recording. NOT very handy, since I just overwrote my Knuckles movie with nothingness.

It would get very annoying doing that... especially if it's something where you need to do a lot of rerecords in a short time. I don't like windowed mode because the title bar and task bar are visible. Also, this has randomly turned all the icons in my Start menu to "unknown file" icons and back again 3 times. What's causing that?

Maybe there needs to be an option for the read only to be by default checked or not checked? I, too, have overwritten movies by accident because of this.

Perhaps a <filename>.gmv.bak can be created whenever you playback a movie and change it.

I like the .gmv.bak idea.

Is there any way you can make a "record a new video from now" option so you can make little clips like you can in SNES9X?

That would require including a savestate in the .gmv. It might be more prudent to at least call it a "record clip" option (possibly with a new file extension) to keep the two separate.

So remember to check it. :) Actually I liked when read-only was default. >NOT very handy, since I just overwrote my Knuckles movie with nothingness. Make backups. Constantly. I like the auto-backup idea though. And the record clip too. Rumor has it Gens will get an official update with movie support sometime, but I haven't seen any specs. Perhaps this feature will be included.

The GMV file format is really too weak to include a savestate or sram. A new Gens source was released and fixes the fullscreen problems. Is there some diff tools for Win32 ?

I think this http://gnuwin32.sourceforge.net/packages/patch.htm may help you Edit: Nach told me that http://unxutils.sourceforge.net/ contains a better version of patch than the GNUwin32 version.

Yes, I preferred it when it was auto read only.

Great! Now I don't have to worry about my start menu. Well, as soon as the movie mod gets changed with it as well. Edit: WTF???? Gens just decided to stop responding for some reason while I was watching one of my movies. This is 9c btw. The really weird thing is, although the video froze, the audio continued and got really screwed up. It sounded like what happens when I pull the cartridge out of a GBA while music is playing. Anyone know what caused this? :|

There shold be short key for Re-record. It's easy over SNES & NES Emulator. please care of it in next Genesis emu update. It's Really boring to browse save & record file again & again...

I don't understand this request. You can already set the loadstate button on any key you wantt in the Misc option menu.

i meantto say. when re recording movie, you need to browse recorded file & save state. this should be same as FCEU emu. Or if it's already sorry then. I will check it :d

You can rerecord the same way as Famtasia and SNES9x (don't know about FCE) by hitting loadstate when the movie is in recording mode. (You don't need to go through the Resume recording dialog box. This one is used when when resuming the movie recording after you closed Gens)

So? what's happening with that emu and those current misfeatures? Maybe you could use some code in GENS 32 which seems to be somewhat better than the original GENS. http://gens32.emubase.de/

Gens32 already has movie support. I'm waiting for Gens 3 source code to further work on movie rerecording.

Taking snapshots while recording to AVI makes invalid BMP pictures. Gens should always use default Genesis resolution for taking snapshots. Not the current window size resolution.

Correct! The number of times I've tried ripping things from screenies only to find I took them while it was at Interpolated 50% Scanline mode...

Can you add something that auto-split AVI when reaching 2 Gigabytes? It's hard to deal with files bigger than 2 GB even if NTFS is supposed to support it, personally, I think it's bullshit.

Hi. My run just desynced, the stupid thing it is. It appears the emulator incorrectly recorded a press of the Start button. Now, if the file is stored like I think it is, one byte per frame, a bitmask of the buttons pressed at that frame, I could easily remove that. Care to confirm this?

Holy goddamn crap. I redid from the start of CNZ2 to the end of ICZ2. I watch it. It plays fine. I turn off my comp, go to bed, <insert everything else i did here>, come home and watch my movie again. It. Desyncs. On. Marble. Garden. 2. One, how tf did it manage to suddenly change between working and not work overnight? Two, how tf did me re-doing everything after the start of CNZ2 affect MGZ (which is earlier in the game)? I'm gonna have to give up doing this if this goes on. >_<
