Looks good. I don't see any obvious way to further improve 2-4; Rocky can just be a pain sometimes. ^^ -hanzou

Here's a small update: I've just finished floor 3 now. Every level on floor 3 went just fine, and every improvement there has been implemented. Onward to floor 4!

Hm, maybe I should try to improve 3-4 again... Nah, I'll wait 'til Sunday.

Allrighty, I'll hold on with the run until sunday in that case, but after sunday I'm continuing with it. So good luck with improving 3-4! It should prove quite difficult though, I tried using Rocky twice on that stage and it's really hard to do. Plus the fact that there's almost no backtracking in the version of 3-4 I have now... But anyway, good luck! EDIT: I've been trying to beat 3-4 for quite some time now by using Rocky to cross the middle part twice, and I have run into a problem with it. Crossing the middle part once with Rocky is really easy. In fact, Rocky's movement turns out so nice that you don't have to wait one single frame for him to get into position. The trouble starts after you crossed the middlepart with him once. No matter how you do it, after you have walked above the Rocky, he always walks up and then walks right. This can not be manipulated, the only way to hinder this is to place an emerald block somewhere close to the middle to block his path. But doing this wastes a lot of time, and makes this strategy slower than doing it as I did it in the current improvement. After he has walked to the right, he does not come into a good position for you to walk across the middle part again for a long time, in fact, he got trapped in the upper right part of this level when I played it. So unless someone proves me wrong, I think I'll stick with the current strategy. But since people always seem to prove me wrong when I'm confident on something, I guess I'll sooner or later have to submit :) I could post an fcm to show what I mean if you want to get a better hunch of what I'm talking about. EDIT 2: More progress. I just finished floor 4. WIP: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/get/344/randil_lolo2_fullrun.fcm EDIT 3: Floor 5 has been done now too. Continuing with floor 6....

Yup man don't worry about it. The whole idea of 'exploit Rocky twice' comes from the console strategy of using Rocky to block the center column, which Lolo has to cross twice. Fortunately I came to realize your latest strategy gets rid of any potential from that because the emerald block, unlike Rocky, doesn't walk away from that spot. =) Of course, as Food might later show this level is still slightly improvable by some other method, but the same goes for most levels. ;) -hanzou

Another improvement for a NES puzzle game, this time for Lolo 2. I used to play this game, like, 4 years ago and now I can remember alot of glitches that happened in that time. With that said, I have a vid ready upon 1st post. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1890823253/girfanatic501_lolo2.fcm The 1st floor really dosen't need much re-records, excert for getting hit by Medusas (seriously, I'm dumb enough to walk right in front of 2 MEDUSAS) and stopped by Rockies. Plus the occasional missing a turn.

I believe an improvement would require that it be faster than the published run. The published run is about 860ish frames faster on floor one. See it here. http://tasvideos.org/940M.html
I'm sciencing as fast as I can ! ______________________________________ <adelikat> once more balls enter the picture, everything gets a lot more entertraining <adelikat> mmmmm yummy penises

Also, there's no need for new threads for every improvement in process. Many threads on the same topic will just make this forum messy and inconsistent. Here's the old topic, use it: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3029

Sorry, it's just that I don't want to reconstruct, revive, whatever you call it, 2 year old topics.

Well, you still need to be faster than the published movie, like Deign said. You'd better watch it first before trying to improve it. Also, 26 rerecords is rather low... I would already use 26 rerecords on determining at what frame to press start for the first time...

Why not? What does it matter? All the discussion is there and it's more confusing to read 2 separate threads if someone wants to study this game. Check this page here: http://tasvideos.org/ForumRules.html#ResurrectingThreads

....and 3 years later people are still trying to make improvements. I'm not sure, but I think I found a possible improvement on 1-2 already. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1842927033/1-2Improvement.fcm

It is possible to actually measure if you have improved the level. Just check frame numbers at some spots that correspond to the same spot in the published TAS, and compare them before and after the level. The movie you posted is at least 159 frames slower than the route that was taken in the published TAS.

Locking for obvious reason. girfanatic501, please dont create topics if there exists one already and it should not matter if the topic in question is old.

...Wow. My calculation was WAY off. OK. Floor 1 is basically un-improvable from hanzou's run.... Then again, whenever someone says that, they're worng.... EDIT: Me thinks I've found an Eggerland game not even mention on the fourms: (and I've checked, for sure) Eggerland - Souzouhe no Tabidachi for the FDS! I'll post a test-run later. EDIT EDIT: K. Rounds 1-5 The game seems to have some levels made that re-appear in Lolo 2, so I know the startagies for some. ACKROUNDACK1ACK Yet, most are unique to this game. Seems like a cool game to do.

I'm not sure a Souzouhe no Tabidachi run would be worth submitting, since all the levels were either re-used in Adventures of Lolo 1 or modified and used in Adventures of Lolo 2. But I would still watch it.

Rounds 2, 4, and 5 are improveable. I tried this game, and rounds 10 and 23 are not reused in any other Lolo game that I have played. Some other rounds are different enough that you can't copy the TAS of the corresponding room in one of the US Lolo games. I reached round 28 before getting bored, so there are probably a few other rounds unique to this game, but not very many.

Yep, and there are only 50 rounds in total you have to get through before you get to the silly little ending screen where Lolo is happy, then gets these big, creepy eyes, then does the V sign in your face. I don't know how that was supposed to wrap up the story movie from the beginning, but whatever.

Back to USA Lolo 2, I'd like to invite anyone to go ahead and improve the currently published run. For the past year and a half I haven't had time to touch it myself, but by now we have several known improvements. Here's a list: 1-5: from AnS, save 8 frames by cutting half of a sand tile 2-2: from Nitrodon, change the path a bit to save at least one step of emerald pushing 3-5: from AnS, grab the heart near the jewel box early, dodge skulls at the end (the spare shot is handy). Unfortunately I can't find this fcm, but AnS demonstrated an improvement of at least 3 frames 4-1: from Nitrodon, Lolo2 4-1.fcm 5-4: from AnS, the published movie might be losing 1 frame due to sloppiness here 6-3: from BagOfMagicFood, go clockwise around the room 6-4: from AnS, swap the order of the last two hearts 6-5: from AnS, shoot Gol from the water to save 1 frame. Supposedly there's a similar improvement on 5-2 but I can't see what's missing there 9-3: from Nitrodon, see the published movie thread

The 5-2 improvement is probably shooting the first snakey earlier. I just checked, and you still have time to push the egg into the water. As for 9-3, BoMF improved it further by getting the shots as soon as possible and immediately killing the snakey, thus allowing you to push both blocks down at the same time. See his WIP of Eggerland: Meikyuu no Fukkatsu for a demonstration around frame 160500ish. There might also be a better 8-4 route much earlier in that run. (I haven't timed it recently.)

Ok, Count me in! I just need a few things that would make things go way faster for me. Hanzou: Do you have the individual level frame count? and doas anyone have BMP images of the start of each level. (something I did before that was a big help) I have been very dependant on realtime play so any advice about rerecording/frame advance would be a great help. Just PM me. I just know the basic basics. slow down & record. Even just give me links if you feel appropriate. Otherwise: I just watched the movie again. It's a very tight but I would make a bold guess that around 30%-40% of the levels are improvable. I was aware of 4-1 as well just from the SDA vid I am thourough, but also slow.(family/job) So you are forwarned. Besides patience is a virtue ;)

Hey Zugzwang, I don't have a list of frame counts, but if that will help you benchmark I can set up a list. How do you prefer a level's frames counted? What I've typically used as the start frame is the one when Lolo appears, and the end frame the first to show the lights dimming.

Probably best is the first frame lolo moves (maybe the same thing?), the end sounds good. I'm unclear when the point is at the beginning myself. I usually -16 frames after lolo take one step in the level. I dont need 1-1,1-2,1-3 of course. I spent about 4 hours on 1-4 I hadnt done it myself before. I was surprised to find that it was faster to go up through the sand rather than getting out of it to the left sooner and then up. only about 4 frames diff. There are about three other senarios that came to me since trying last night so I'll try agian tonight. 2-1 seems perfect all other attempts to redirect pusher takes the same steps

I spent last night and tonight looking for the improvement that Ans had made in 3-5 I found a couple solutions but none around the 3 frame mark you mentioned. This one seems to be about 16 frames faster. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1164563140/AdvLolo2-14.fm2

I know that a lolo shot will not block medussa so you can pass by. Does anyone know if Fire will obstruct medussa? Or if a shot stopping fire will block her? Thought I could ask rather than spend time trying to figure it out myself I disapeared for a few weeks. I just purchased my first home, moved, and it took forever to get my internet. Ill be putting more time in this :)
