But.. it's good to get item1/item2 faster somehow.. in woodman you can use lots of glitches by using item1 Wood works really good for bubble.

You can only shoot through the shield because your shots are faster? I remember you could shoot through the Leaf Shield quite easily in the Game Boy version.

I think you can shoot through the shield with the Mega Busterin the NES version, as well, if you get right on top of him. It's been forever since I've tried. In Megaman 3, Doc Man's "state" changes when using the Leaf Shield and you can't shoot him at all while it's up, unlike Megaman 2, where the leaves are apparently separate entities. That's the only explanation I can come up with for being able to shoot through the shield at all in MM2. From my limited experience with Rockman Exile, I know you can 1-hit kill Crash Man with the Atomic Fire -- on the normal difficulty, at least. As a side note, I wonder why that's the only weapon that wasn't changed. And I guess nobody has Shinryuu's original run of this, then?

M-A-H-C-W-B-F-Q 1) Mega Buster on MetalMan 2) Metal Blade on AirMan 3) Air Shooter on HeatMan 4) Atomic Fire on CrashMan 5) Crash Bomber on WoodMan (you can shoot through his Leaf Shield without any problems too) 6) Leaf Shield on BubbleMan 7) Crash Bomber on FlashMan 8) Time Stopper or Mega Buster on QuickMan (or both) That's all I could come up with so far. :/

Hmm.. Flashman is really bad weapon for quickman it takes a lot of time. Buster is better I,ll use different way perhaps.. This game is "Glitchy" There is a lot of places where you can use ITEM1 and you can use item2 for long rooms.. but if i plan to make TAS for this game someday.. i will play "NORMAL" Difficulty..

The weaknesses are the same. I wonder if there's anything faster than the Crash Bombs on Flash Man though... Air Shooter does the same amount of damage on him (if I recall correctly), and he can get hit THREE times with all 3 tornadoes. (so you don't have to wait until the tornadoes goes out of the screen to use again and you don't have to wait for him to go lower to get hit.). Quick Man is weak against no other weapon than the Buster and Time Stopper. I don't remember who's weak against the Quick Boomerangs... But my guesses would be Wood Man or Flash Man.

Quick boomerang is the metal blade of this game: i.e. almost infinite usage and powerful against most enemies

The only thing wrong with this route is you get the Item 1 a bit too late... And since Item 1 is SUPER useful in Airman's stage (to skip the lightning-throwers-on-clouds), and that the Item 2 is unavailable (since it's the Item you get after killing Airman), we need another weakness for Heatman, or else we'll have to start with him.

Would it be too out of the question to start with Air Man, and do Heat Man second? The Heat Man battle with just the Mega Buster is painfully long -- even if you can manipulate Heat Man to cross the screen on the first try, it would still (probably) be the longest battle in the game, since he takes 28 hits to fall to that weapon. The Air Shooter would take him out in three. There's always the chance that taking the time to beat Air Man first will result in a faster overall run, since you would then have Item 1 and Item 2 after the first two stages.

I'm pretty sure that the Air Shooter isn't the only weapon that hurts Heatman more than the Buster... If there's a level that doesn't have tons of places to use Item 1, a quick and easy boss to kill, that gives a good weapon against Heatman, then the fight against Heatman would be faster. If the Air Shooter is the ONLY weapon that damages Heatman more than the Buster, then we need to test both routes. (Heatman first or Airman first).

Has anybody tested how zipping affects the quickman maze?

That's exactly what I was thinking, Shinryuu. And for the record, the only other effective weapon against Heatman is the Bubble Lead, and Bubbleman's stage has a few places where not only Item 1 would be useful, but also Item 2 (the outside area with the shrimp and mettaurs). Looking at boss weaknesses and acquiring Items 1 and 2, it looks like the order should be something like -- Air, Heat, Crash, Wood, Bubble, and then the last three in any order (Metalman is weak to Bubble, Quickman is best taken with the Mega Buster, Flashman is weak to Crash and Quick- probably easier to hit with Crash, but maybe take weapon selection time into account).

In the beginning of Bubblemanstage you can use item1.. and item 2 can cause lag... but good Idea i must test it when i have time.. :)

Bubbleman does move quite fast in Exile. You'd definitely need his weakness (Leaf Shield) to take him out effectively. I stuck a proposed order in my post above. As far as Item 2 creating lag -- I'm well aware that it does this, but in your partial run, using Item 1 platforms creates quite a bit of lag in that section as well.

I picked up this obscure game when I was browsing some Mega Man / Rockman related hacks. I don't know if this hack deserves any attention besides having some nostalgic vibe or something. Rejected submissions are sub-optimal but there's a good enough run available at NicoNico (which contains some nice ideas) and aglasscage and friends made a nice WIP I found floating around the forums. I've been comparing against this particular WIP because its quality is pretty good actually. Airman stage is basically 4 frames faster but I have not found a way to beat frame rule so no savings. Heatman is tricky because how you deal with those annoying apes. I found a way to fetch some subpixels from them. I also tested many different Item 2 setups but I still can't say are they optimal. At least Heatman is 32 frames faster for now. I also wrote into this very topic around 17 years ago it seems? Horrifying.

I didn't want to pollute published run section so I'm typing in to this section instead. I made some fixes and calculations and here are my timings for three first stages. I'm comparing against cui's new run. * Airman is theorically 88 frames faster but only if frame rule behaves well and around 80 frames if it's not. Double death needs some waiting and in my previous attempt it was 3 full frame rule cycles slower. * Heatman seems to be 35 frames faster and this seems to be quite solid * Crashman is 70 frames faster but it might still need some planning
