Seeing how hacked games are becoming somewhat popular (and accepted), I wanted to propose that hack: Rockman EXILE. It's a remake of Rockman 2, all the levels have new tiles, new music (well, mostly music from other Megaman games), the bosses are harder, have new patterns, the weapons you get have been tweaked, etc. Bisqwit and some hardcore TimeAttackers might have seen the little demo FinalFighter did on his website. I think the game has a lot of potential, and we could give it a try. The name of the rom is: Rockman EXILE (Mega Man 2 Hack).nes. (Well, that's how mine is called, and if you guys have the NESRen pack, it's in it.)

I've waited for someone to do this on EXILE. It is quite a tough game, but I did beat it with PocketNES on my GBA SP. The Yoku Block session in Wily Stage 2 is very tough to get through the regular way, but the method finalfighter (I think) showed on a preview movie is more efficient, by going through the roof area with Item 1. I'm amazed that the author of this rom managed to make Spark Mandriller's music for MetalMan. Alot of Rockman World 5 (Game Boy) themes were added too. Kudos to him/her. But does anyone know where the theme for WoodMan's stage comes from? o_o I would love to TAS this, but since that Rockman Zero 4 TAS I did months ago, my rerecord skills are a bit... lacking and I might end up failing to save frames by using efficient roads. :/ To anyone who's willing to make a TAS of this game, you got my full support!

I can tell you the new Wood Man theme is originally Coo's theme from Kirby's Dream Land 2 (i think. it's track 9 in the gbs file). It's a bit out of tune with the original though so it annoys me a bit.
I like my "thank you"s in monetary form.

Shinryuu has already made a TAS of EXILE, it's on Dehacked's microstorage. Unfortunately, I don't remember the URL and I'm at school now, but I can link to it when I'm back home.

It sounds more relaxing and soothing on the GBS version. Thanks!! ^_^

I'll look into it myself... (Hur svårt kan det vara egentligen?) EDIT: Uploader found (google): http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php

Hehe, I know the link to the microstorage, but I don't know the URL to the the EXILE movie :) It would be nice to have a search-engine on the microstorage, since finding the microstorage doesn't really help you find the movies that are uploaded on it. By the way, did you find the movie on the microstorage? If not, I'll get it uploaded later today. Oh, and I agree that the music in EXILE is really awesome :)

All I found was http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/?? (?? being the movie number) Just knowing the number and adding .fcm would solve it.

Getting Spark Mandrill's music into the game probably wasn't too difficult, since he has other Gameboy game music in there. Spark Mandrill was in one of the Megaman Xtreme games for the Gameboy Color, so it was probably just the same process as the other gameboy tunes, rather than editing SNES music. Still, this too is a good hack worth looking at.

I got Shinryuu's TAS (from Shinryuu himself) and uploaded it so that everyone can see it. I must say I'm pretty impressed on his work. Although I could spot out few places which could have been done faster. Anyways, you can get the .fcm from here.
Which run should I encode next? :)

Shinryuu's movie was good for an introduction to this hack. I wonder why so many hack makers resort to creating bizarreness instead of something that looks cool and has consistent, non-bizarre themes? This game hack kind of reminds me of the Farscape episode where Chrichton travels a wormhole into an alternative reality where all the familiar elements are present but mixed together in a bizarre way. (And yes, the messed-up Coo theme annoyed me too.)

I think a lot of it comes from experimentation, and hackers wondering just how much they can change things. In other words: Because they can. Perhaps you could think about creating a seperate category for hacks, so that they're not mixed up with other games of the same system. So that all hacks are under one category, regardless of which system they're for. Or would that be too difficult to implement with the current system. (ie: Is a movie classified as SNES automatically thrown into the SNES list via a script? Or could a movie classified as Hacked SNES appear in a list for all other Hacked games?)

On one hand, I like that it has new music (seems to be a rarity in hacks), but on the other hand, I think it could have been written better. A few songs were taken from other NES games, but they didn't sound as good as in those games! I think the most annoying part was in the ending, where the walking-home tune was transposed, but the hackers failed to keep the very end of the tune in the same key.

I've always thought this is a good idea. It would relieve some of the tension between people who want TASed hacks published and those who don't. It would "allow" for more hacked games, which would make some happy, yet it would not "taint" the list of licensed games, which would make others happy. I still think that having an "allow" list is a good idea too, though.

I have to agree with the "because they can" part -- although some are fairly good. Rockman Exile is definitely one on the "bizarre" side, but I also think it's fairly well done. It's definitely the most in-depth Megaman hack I've seen, and also the only actually complete one. I'll agree with the separate category, and to a continuation of the current "allow" list. Shinryuu: Where, exactly, can I get the movie you've done previously? I would very much like to see it.

Yes.. But i Found those glitches myself. im surprised finalfighter had movie and same tricks and it's older movie. and i haven't ever seen it. :< If someone Starts TAS for This game I think you must play Airman or Heatman First Heatman (Item1) Airman(item2) But if you play Heatman First You lose time with the stage and in the boss lots. if you start With airman you lose time with the clouds and Boss (some not so much i think) But If Boss order is Heat first You can save time in airman (Clouds + wallzipping Glitch 1 Room before boss room) Airman First : You can save time in heatmanstage with item 2 and collect weapon powerups. If someone want to know something About glitches or something about Exiles.. feel free to ask. This game is good.. and i think it can be submitted (im not sure about it) But if someone manages to find better boss order im happy if i can hear it. Good Luck

Does anyone have damage tables for this game? I think some of the weaknesses were changed.

Most of the weaknesses are changed, but I don't think anyone has fixed a chart yet... Like those SpikePress obstacles can be destroyed with the Buster alone, and you can shoot through WoodMan's shield with the Buster. There's also the way the weapons are used on the game. Bubble Lead gets shot in a way longer distance than normal, and there are less explosions with the Crash Bomber. If anyone has the time to do a chart, go for it... otherwise, I can begin one tomorrow.
