...since we're talking about this course, might as well link two theoretical videos ... Starting from the known shortcut but cutting it a lot sharper could be a good idea.
Unfortunately if you cut sharply enough to get to the land (which may actually be possible) you will also reverse past the finish line (which extends into the water) and decrement your lap. What I hope to be able to do (and have gotten quite close on) is to jump all the way to the land along the normal SC path. I've been within half a kart-length of making it and I think a Xenos slide may help. By the way, jumping at the top of the ramp (counter-intuitively) decreases the distance you jump.

Difference being the ending roll into the finish? Im not very good with 'spot the difference'. In weatherton, you hear "ahhhh" when he does his roll into the finish while with DwainiumB's you hear "ahh, ahhhh" Nice little optimization (thumbsUP) I'm an idiot and I need to read more gooder. Thanks Samsara. Didn't realize it was actually Weatherton's updated video.

I added a play-around section when I had to wait for Bowser on lap 2 and managed a slightly earlier jump off of DK (which necessitated a higher tumble at the finishline). Next up is Royal Raceway.

Glad everyone is enjoying these. Bowser's Castle is next, the only course that has no full test run completed. I'm experimenting with various CPU jumps to see what's possible.

Can you do a Starting Lap burst into a npc in front of you and fling yourself off the side behind the line( on or off the track?) Very quick find so far!

That was the most impressive TAS I've ever seen so far of this game, omg. Just the way that each lap is completed differently from the others is already something amazing, but the actual methods are insane!

I knew BC would be broken, but you surprised me once again. This will be my TAS of the year when it's complete!
Current project: Gex 3 any% Paused: Gex 64 any% There are no N64 emulators. Just SM64 emulators with hacky support for all the other games.

This is so great! Most people only do time trial TAS but I find actual race TASes way more impressive. Like seriously, some of these strats are insane! I'm with the others on this, this could definitely be TAS of the year.

AngerFist. I have not forgotten either, but I guess for now I'm going to consider it one year since that post 0:) For now: Link to video Having just completed Bowser's Castle in my GP TAS, I decided to try it in Time Trials. I mentioned this to Beck Abney and within two hours he had set a new best first lap and sent me the ghost. So the ghost I'm racing here is Beck's ghost, the best ever realtime 1-shroomer first lap done in 44"10 PAL (36.68 NTSC) by Beck Abney. A couple notes. First, I had some trouble with the thwomps that track you in the second room. Because I was ahead of Beck's ghost, they chased after me (he did his run with a dummy ghost to divert them). I lost a small amount of time taking a slightly sub-optimal line to avoid being hit (note: I wouldn't use a dummy ghost in a real TAS, so this is a better representation of what would happen in a Time Trials all courses TAS). Also worth noting is that although I started one SSMT at the end of lap 1, I did this only to match the typical strategies. It's actually faster overall to do an MT around the last corner plus an additional SSMT right after starting lap 2. This results in a 0"04 slower first lap, but a 0"03 faster 3-lap. I'm not planning to finish the 3-lap anytime soon (and I expect I'll have some major challenges with the thwomps on lap 2 due to my fast pace) so I'm uploading this for now. I know that Time Trial can have sub-optimal times on some courses compared to Grand Prix. I know using certain shortcuts on some courses display the message "Race data cannot be saved for ghost" which means you can't view replay either. I used GameShark codes to hack the game and probably set up for 2-Player Time Trial, but you can't save ghost and don't start with a triple mushroom. Hacking 3 or 4 player mode for Grand Prix and Time Trial don't display the time. I bet somebody would make a lua script for VS mode, displaying the times for each player. 3- or 4-Player Grand Prix also has glitchy graphics for 5th to 8th place. Hacking VS mode for 1-player, it's best to select 4-Player Game and use GameShark codes for AI function and 1-Player Game screen setup, the invincibility theme and the final lap jingle overlaps with the background music and it doesn't speed up. Don't do it with Battle mode however as the AI wasn't programmed in that mode. Sometimes sub-optimal times in some courses are the only to save ghosts. Shortcuts that don't allow you to save ghosts in the following courses: - Kalimari Desert - Toad's Turnpike - Frappe Snowland - Royal Raceway - Yoshi Valley - Rainbow Road You know what would be hilarious? If someone does a 2-Player VS TAS on Bowser's Castle? It'll net the fastest time on any mode. Maybe a 3-Player VS TAS on Royal Raceway.

Hi, sorry for lack of updates / progress. I've been making some behind-the-scenes progress on my lua script and helping out with some hacking / patching of Mario Kart 64. I didn't have much time over the last several months but I hope to get some good progress shortly (ideally with some streaming, if you're interested).
