turning around to fly backwards takes more time then turning around on the ground... and flying backwards gives the appearance of a speed boost, but I think it's deceiving Is swimming out of the water in the air (not the same as OoT) as Zora going to be used at all? this is easily replicable on the console so I'm told, so will the acheivable height/speed boost be used? I know super slide will be used primarily for ground movement and bomb hover to gain height but does the zora air swimming have application?

Unfortunately it desynched for me as well. But here is a important question about the input plugin you used. You used: TAS Input plugin 0.6 Now I doubt Im using the wrong ROM (Im using Legend of Zelda, The - Majora's Mask (U) [!].z64) since I got the same CRC match and all. Im curious about the input plugin you are using. Is it something that we must find for ourselves since it obviously aint included in the Mupen installation or did you renamed the input plugin? Can you even do that?

That input plugin is linked to in the Mupen forum. I'm using it but it desynced for me. :(

Well here are all my settings EDIT: Sorry too small will post a bigger one. EDIT_2: Done it EDIT_3: Currently making my way to Termina to see if I can put 300 rupees in the bank, but I'll get a minimum of 200. It is getting pointless doing it since no one can watch it other than me just posting a lame AVI of it.

You have the wrong idea of what he means for the flying backwards. He means to go from the front of the flower facing away from where you are going, tapping z, then flying out of it abckwards to your destination. I'm not sure if it's faster though.

You can backwalk onto a flower and enter it, but the spinning motion and redirecting motion inside (that sends out a puff of gas while tilting the angle to aim in the direction you want) can possibly screw up which direction your facing. I suppose you could point the direction opposite of your desired direction and fly backwards, but doesn't landing reposition you to face fowards? someone would need to test this

I have tested it and you are wrong. The Deku Flower points you into whichever direction you are facing. So if you backwalk into, it points you backwards from your destination.

Currently the movie has desynced 14 times for me now and it keeps doing it after I collect the fairy in ECT. The movie runs fine from a read only savestate (not used to record from) but when I play it back from the start, it keeps desyncing by backwalking in the wrong direction. Currently trying to fet the magic and then depositing about 4 rupees in the bank and then exiting clock town to get 99 rupees from the long grass; depositing it again; repeating again to get another 99; depostit to get Adult wallet; buy bomb bag; get more rupees if I have enough time then; back flip to clock tower and quit doing this game. I would only be prepared to coninue if others pleged their alliance to doing it. I don't personally remember B+K, SM64 , or OoT desyncing at quite the rate this game does. EDIT: I discovered that when you dive into a flower you can hit Z and you can face any direction you want without turning. Also flying forwards is better that backwards because when you press A or run out of Distance the you'll go further forward. I was able to get the fairy in ECT town 5 frames earlier with this method which in this game is 0.25s faster.

I think some games desync more than others. For example, I had no desyncs at all when I did a 40 min run on turok1, but when i tried turok3 it desynced like 15 times when i had only done half of the first level. like turok 3, perfect dark etc, majora's mask is a new game, it came out somewhere in the end before n64 died, so that's... probably why it desyncs more :s

It'll be the need of an expansion pack to play Majora's Mask that causes more desyncs. The game obviously asks more of the N64 and the Mupen just can't cut it.

That would explain it. Could possibly a new Mupen patch be created for games that require the expansion pack?

It's not like Mupen has seen any development in the past year, so I doubt it.

AKA, I bet it will work (=cease desynching) if you use one of the regular input plugins.

Why should I resort to using a keyboard?

if the controller is causing desynchs, I think switching to the keyboard and using an analog stick is worth it.

What? It is by default to always use the expansion pack and can't be changed. The desyncs at the same area are caused by a faulty savestate which you are using to redo that area. It is missing frames before it so it will always desync no matter what you add to it so you have to go back and make another one. Somewhere along the line something messed up, the input plugin has no effect on desyncs whatsoever (disregarding things like memory/rumble pak), it's all about the .m64.

I noticed a similar thing in my GBT TAS. Whenever I tried to view the movie from a savestate, it would desync at the red switch room because the bomb would explode on the chuchu. when played from the beginning, it doesn't do that. This is part of why I gave up. the desyncing rate on this game is phenominal.

AKA, if you're still doing this run, don't get the rupees outside Clock Town -- instead, just backflip up to the ledge and wait there until midnight. You'll waste time in the transitions as well as going to the bank. Remember that later, you can get 90 rupees fast from breaking pots, so I really don't think the luck manipulation will be necessary.

I have to admit that I agree with BoMF. Just going directly to the tower and waiting for 4 mins will bore the hell out of everyone. I also find it hard to belive that Link will be able to aquire rupees faster than all the transitional scenes during the first cycle. I know the chest in ECT can be got as Link without any items, but the one in SCT can only be got with either a moon tear, bomb hover or most practically a Goron mask. My question is how much money is needed for the entire game? I know bombs won't be that much of a worry because they can be manipulated, but bombchus are needed for Snowhead,Ikana and possibly a few other places. The Adult wallet is definitley needed though. The route I've fought of so far in the second cycle is. 1. Hit owl statue 2. Goto Bank and buy Bomb bag 3. Goto Snowhead and Get Goron Mask (hit owl statue on the way) 4. Play SoT and go back to day 1 5. Play inverted SoT (completing game in 1:30 is impossible) 6. Get 100 rupees in SCT and buy 20 bombchu's 7. Get bombs from Grass and skip skullkid cutscene 8. Hit owl statue, get bottle and get all the way to hitting the owl outside the first dungeon 9. Warp to owl statue in CT 10. Goto Great Bay; get Zora Mask; hit owl statue; get egg from Pinacle Rock; get hookshot from Gerudo (YOU DO NOT NEED ARROWS); warp to GB and deposit egg 11. Warp to Deku swamp and complete first dungeon

Considering all the problems we've had with desynchs, I _really_ don't think it's worth the trouble doing something fancy during that time at the risk of frustrating yourself to hell. There's nothing to do anyway.

Breaking the pots is pretty fast.

If I recall correctly, the grand total comes out to be around 500. If you want a precise total, you can add the numbers up from Petrie's route.

Please explain how to get the hookshot without shooting the hive. I must admit that I didn't know about this. >_> You forgot the Scarecrow's Song. You'll want to go to the Trading Post when you're in West Clock Town buying your bomb bag/bombchus or using the bank. Is the ISoT really necessary? If I recall correctly, Petrie said that he reached or finished the Great Bay Temple at 7:xx p.m. on the first night. If this is true, the game should be completable within a regular cycle.

OK I've gone a little further, I've got the magic and deposited 4 rupees in the bank, and now I'm at SCT. I was thinking of leaving CT; getting 99 rupees and re-entering from WCT to deposit some rupees, giving me a grand total of 103 before enter the Central Clock Tower. Try to get this to run, because it runs all the way through for me without desyncs. I've experienced 16 desyncs up till this point, I've spent quite a while on this despite the re-record rate, becuase a lot of the time was wasted having to sit through the entire movie to check for desyncs, this'll probally be to tedious for me to continue. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/2172/ZELDA%20MAJORA%27S%20MASK%20%28USA%29.m64

I haven't watched your new WIP yet (will do later), but why do you deposit only four rupees as opposed to a full wallet? Isn't it a waste of time, since you have to talk to the banker and all? Also, what about the chest containing the silver rupee in the Stock Pot Inn?

Thanks. Pretty dumb of me not to think of that. =P

Dammit had no idea there was one there. I could always get it next.
