in my conversation with luckytyphlosion, it became pretty clear this game has enough tech to 100%the pokedex with one GS cartridge only, but he said they'd banned ACE as it would be way too trivial. Personally i'd find a run like that to be very interesting, even if the glitch is repetitive, the sheer speed this trick gives should compensate for the time taken to set it up, unless the run also glitches the item gathering and makes it fast too. Link to video i wonder if they could get the pokemon poisoned to slowly chip away HP EDIT: even easier Link to video
I want all good TAS inside TASvideos, it's my motto. TAS i'm interested: Megaman series, specially the RPGs! Where is the mmbn1 all chips TAS we deserve? Where is the Command Mission TAS? i'm slowly moving away from TASing fighting games for speed, maybe it's time to start finding some entertainment value in TASing.

https://bulbanews.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Pok%C3%A9mon_Crystal_to_be_released_on_3DS_Virtual_Console
In this version of Pokémon Crystal, players can encounter the Mythical Pokémon Celebi after entering the Hall of Fame. In the Japanese version of the Virtual Console release, after entering the Hall of Fame, when the player enters the Pokémon Communication Center they will be given the GS Ball, which is used in a series of events to encounter Celebi (in the original Japanese release of Pokémon Crystal, the player had to connect to the internet using the Mobile Game Boy Adapter to obtain the GS Ball). In the Western versions of the Virtual Console release, it has only been stated that the player can encounter Celebi after entering the Hall of Fame (the Pokémon Communication Center is replaced by a regular Pokémon Center in original the Western releases, with Celebi being exclusive to event distributions in the Western Generation II games).
Hopefully this is done by actually modifying the rom so that it can be extracted as a standard gbc rom with this feature.

Apparently, the ROM is not modified. The emulator is just rigged to set a byte in SRAM after the player has entered the Hall of Fame.

That looks like the laziest way to mod a game ever. LOL

There's this hacked called Crystal Clear which makes traveling less restrictive which means that all gyms can be done in any order. All HM moves can be used without needing certain badges. Gyms get progressively difficult. There are many starters. For the start of the run of Crystal Clear, use Crystal Clear 2.0 Baby, choose Seel as the starter and you'll have access to Surf. Set text speed to none, animations to off, ask switch to no, menu account to off, encounter to fast, nurse to quick, continue to quick, disable calls from the Pokemon League, get to Goldenrod City ASAP. Get Kenya the Spearow and you have access to Fly. Fly to where you can catch a Legendary Pokemon, then beat the game!

By legendary Pokemon you mean Dodrio. Also, the hack is still in development, and 2.1.0 is going to be released some time soon, and I doubt that'll be the last update.

I did a very quick (not very optimized) TAS of Crystal Clear 2.0 BABY, using the speedrun route (but not doing the 25 Rare Candies): Link to video Possible that Ursaring or some other Pokemon is faster. Actually I did a TAS of 2.0 Beta a year ago. BABY is faster because you can beat 8 Gym Leaders + E4 to fight the Mt. Silver trainer, whereas in Beta you need 16 Gym Leaders + E4.

Crystal Clear 2.3 has an even faster route as you can choose a city to start in. Pikachu is slightly OP in UU because of the Light Ball. But for any speedrun, Seel is god tier compared to anything else. It's safe to disable music and that annoying low HP sound. Start in Goldenrod City with a Seel, enable instant text and all essentials. Instant transition in Pokedex and don't view entry upon capture. Disable phone calls. Get Kenya, get Dodrio, you get the idea. You could use a custom starter. (Mewtwo with Psychic, Dynamic Punch, Fire Blast, and Thunder. Max IVs and holding a Lucky Egg. Super OP and game-breaking)

I'm sure you know already about the Pokemon Gold TAS, and how Rattata/Raticate is great. Just a few days ago, a YouTuber made a video about the Pokemon Gold TAS: Link to video Now actually, CasualPokePlayer left a comment under the video saying that the Hidden Power route is slower than just using Mud-Slap. Apparently there will be an updated TAS (soon?)

I have started a separate Silver glitchless attempt that uses Unown (Psychic 70) and Sudowoodo instead. https://tasvideos.org/UserFiles/Info/638281529686572485 Link to video Most route differences have converged upon entering Route 38 gate. Unown/Sudo is at 44:54, remaining differences: *Teaching Surf: 5 secs *1 more suboptimal move activation: 7 secs *1 more level up move learning: 4 secs *Catching Dratini: 27 secs Rat (WIP) is at 45:56, remaining differences: *Goldenrod Tunnel fights: -104 secs *Catching Gyarados: 8 secs *Teaching Iron Tail: 16 secs *Boxing: 19 secs *Unboxing: 10 secs *Teaching Waterfall: 7 secs *1 more level up: 3 secs *Suboptimal overworld movement to Blackthorn: 4 secs *4(?) more turns: 22 secs Which means my route is about 4 secs after on paper at this point. It's kinda a situation where we don't know whether it's gonna be faster until it's actually done.

Would this route also be faster for Crystal? The current route for that game uses Quilava until it can catch Raikou.

Unown would be actually faster for Crystal, while I realized it might not be in G/S at some point after posting the WIP.

Are you planning to make that TAS? I think I'd like to try, but if you've already made a lot of progress I might be reinventing the wheel. Losing to the Rival to keep Totodile at a lower level is clever, but I think in Crystal it's not necessary because Poliwag can be caught on Route 30 to learn Surf, Whirlpool, and Waterfall. Funnily enough, Chikorita might be the best option, as it needs the same number of moves for the two trainer battles and its cry is about 24 frames shorter than Totodile's. (Edit: I was mistaken, Chikorita needs an extra move, so Totodile looks like the best choice) I looked into using an Unown with Hidden Power Rock, which is faster against Falkner's Gym, but it's much slower against Whitney so that doesn't work.

Are you considering routing the Unown in Crystal instead? It was quite the competition and I was rooting for Unown to be viable lol.
