I continued my run a bit and now I'd like to hear your oppinions that should I stay for a while in the place where the movie stops and level up before continuing.
It could be worh to stay and get one more level. Getting two more levels would make the run quite boring and that's why I'm not gaining three levels in there.
But I'd really like to know your oppinions that should I get even one level there. I think I should. But the second level is very open for discusion.
(I might continue my run after a week or so, so there is time :) )

Three things i noticed:
The first thing i noticed is that you swapped your saber with your buster in the start menu. Why did you do this? You could've just swapped your button cofiguration for primary and secondary attacks.
Second thing i noticed is that you didn't get hit during the stage. Are you sure it's faster to only take damage from the golem? Did you test the difference?
Final thing is that i saw you using a dashing saber attack. Don't ever use this, it's slow. Use a (semi)charged buster plus a jumping slash combo or something if you must do more damage.
Anyway, i'm not sure about the levelling up thing. You do get quick kills this way, but you lose "much" time as well. And if you've done your homework, you should know that the best way to beat bosses is by using normal slashes, cancelled out by a short dash.
So technically, you don't really need that charged saber ASAP. Although starting the battle with a charged elemental slash could be good... although i'm not sure if that does more damage in the same amount of time than spent doing slash-dash-slashing could do.
I can't tell you what's best, i'm afraid i have to tell you to try the difference yourself.
I think i remember it was Gigafrost who made the slash-dash-slash boss battle test movies. If it was him, you could ask him if he tested out whether using charged elemental attacks was faster or slower.

thanks for your feedback, McBAIN.
Would you mind expalaining the so called slash-dash-slash tactic to me. It sounded so good that I'd be glad to give it a try once i know how to make it happen. :)

You can find the movies here: gigafrost mmz TAS movies
The triple rod movie was to test how much time it would cost getting the triple rod. Most likely to see if it would save time getting it for some tricks later on in the game, like a shortcut in leviathan1's level. But iirc it costed too much time.
Edit: Actually! That info and those movies can also be found on the first page of this topic! Did you read this entire topic before trying to speedrun the game yourself?

I didn't know you could beat up bosses that fast. I though you'd have to wait till the flashing stops. Thanks for this.
And no, I haven't read the entire topic. I see that I should do it. :)
You do have to wait for the bosses to finish flashing, but if you stand still and swing the saber they only flash for a little while. My guess has been that this is probably a bug from making the triple-slash work. The dashing allows you to break out of the slashing a bit earlier so you can swing earlier.
Shooting breaks you out earlier than dashing, but you can only swing at the same time as if you had dashed out. However, it's useful if you need to move a few frames earlier than normal.
Using the shield breaks you out really early (maybe as early as shooting) but has the extra advantage of allowing you to swing immediately afterwards.

A little update once again.
Now I have beaten Aztec Falcon (or what ever his name is).
Should I use the Escape Unit in the next few stages to skip them or should i go through them also? I personally think that going through them would make the run more interesting and it feels kinda stupid to skip so big part of the game.
Well, any comments on this would be appriciated.
In this case I would treat Escape Unit like a warp that skips levels, in which case you can choose to do a warpless run over a warpful run. (Skipping large parts of the game seems to be a sort of tradition in time attacks, though...)

Well, personally I like more of warpless run (which might effect in this) but since I'm quite busy now, I'm going to leave this open for a week and hope you're going to give me some good pointers which one I should choose.

Why did you still level up your saber a bit? You know you don't need the charged saber for bosses or such....
I also didn't see you fixing the dash slash.
Also, would it be possible to slash-dash-slash if he'd be firing his lasers up and down simultaniously? Maybe not after continuously attacking, but at least more than normal slashes, what you do now, since he jumps all the time. If so, perhaps you can manipulate him into standing more on the ground.
Anyway, there have been a few discussions about the escape unit in the past. i believe most thought that using it was not very entertaining, and preferred not using the escape unit.
There could be 2 seperate versions, 1 that uses the escape unit as much as possible. and one that doesn't.
I prefer not using it.

Once again, a little update on my run.
I don't actually remember how far this reaches since I updated it while nesvideos was down.
Anyways, I'm currently at Anubis (the boss in the desert). It may take a while to finish this boss since it's a bit annoying and I'm going to a small lanparty with my friend for the weekend. So don't expect any progressupdate before monday.
(You may have noticed that I don't like much of doing bosses and I appologize if I complain too much about them once in a while :) )

Really? In my opinion the boss fights are what makes the MegaMan games interesting! :)
Anyway, so you continued on from your movie? That means you didn't start over and take the advice nitsuja and I gave? :/

Well, you could conscider my run as a testrun for anyone who is really a pro on making TASes.
That's because I don't have the patince to make the run perfect to the frame, which you may have noticed in few points.
Although when I get this completed I will submit it because there isn't a TAS of MegamanZero 1 yet.
Actually most TASes I have done / began to do are from games which haven't been made TAS of yet. That's because I wan't to have TASes of some games and since there aren't any of those yet, I'll do them my self so that everyone else who'd also like to see those TASes (although they aren't 100% perfect) can see them.
And while I do TAS of a game which hasn't been TASed yet, someone more pro than me could get interested as well of the game an make more perfect run and use my run as an example.
Really, isn't this what the "quality control" topic in the general forum is all about? I mean I've spent a couple of days off and on playing Megaman X2, but I never really get past the first boss-stage, 'cause I find something in the beginning, and I wanna change my moves a little, and I have to redo it to save a couple of frames, but that's just me, you can do whatever you want too, this is just a little bit of advice from me.
(I don't know if any of this makes any sense to anyone of you, and I'm not really sure that it'll make any sense to me if I read it tomorrow, but I hope someone'll be able to translate it into proper english.) :)
Anubis Necromancess isn't nearly so bad as what comes next, imo. The slow walk back to base... yeck. Actually, I thought about warning you of that (so that you might consider a warp run.) But, maybe you won't be frame-advancing through it like I did...

You are quite correct, Gigafrost. I definitely won't be frame-advancing that part.
It will be quite a pain to get that injured guy back to resistence base but hey, atleast i get to level up my sabre/gun at the same time :)

I watched your movie, finally (took me a while :P) and it looked pretty nice. I'm wonderng why you didn't get hit by the Train boss a more time though (the fire)
You had enough health left for one more hit by the flamethrower, byt you dodged the flame twice at the start... where you were some frames late by hitting the boss.

It has been a while since last post but now I have something to you finally. Anubis is finally a pile of dust.
After this there is the very boring walk to home with the injured soldier. Any ideas how I could entertain you while returning to base? I'd be happy to hear any suggestions how to make as good entertainment as possible to you.

Any progress on this?
I can't particularly think of anything to entertain the watcher, but i'd surely suggest you kill as many enemies as you can, coz, you know, you're moving slowly.
Anything without the cost of having the soldier stop though

Not much of a progress (sry for that).
I'm currently aproximately in the middle of the journey back to resistance base.
I'll upload my progress once I reach the base, if that's okey to you.
Why the progress has been so slow? Well, because I'm pretty busy in school (once again!) and it's quite a pain to travel with the speed of that injured soldier. He is sooo slow! ;)
I'm hoping that I'll be able to finish that mission during this week. (Although I won't be able to work on it today or tomorrow.)

Okey, the "Anubis mission" is now finished.
But I'll most likely redo the latter part of the returning (~15-30sec) since I did that with quite haste to get something for you to watch ;)
I didn't even use savestate at all for that short period and you might be able to see that.
Anyways, I won't be able to continue the run this week, but I hope next week won't be so hasty so that I can start the new mission.
Maza, just a heads up that Maha Ganesharrif is easy to manipulate. How far away from him you go in between attacks seems to change what attack he does after he gets hit. (Well, really it's more like it actually DID change what attack he chose to do after getting hit.)

Yes Gigafrost, I have also noticed that. But thnaks anyway.
Infact I'm currently at Maha Ganesharrif. (Been for few days now..). Somehow I don't seem to have any time to make speedruns these days. :(
Well I could atleast update my progress to you (even thou' the mission/level isn't finished yet). That's because I'm not sure if I have the time to complete the run.
So here is the progress so far.
Yeah, I've noticed that my time disappeared. It's starting to lighten up, though, now that I don't have any more 30+ hour in-lab robotics projects (hence I finally have my weekends back.) Hopefully a similar load-lightening will happen to you (assuming that it's a good thing for that to happen, that is.)
