To genisto, I am interested in helping improve your current smb3j video, i dont know how you want to work together, maybe ill send you a video of certain boards to be improved or i can explain them here, im not sure. I am not yet done scanning your video for improvements at all, though i already see 2 small improvements. I don't mind helping you as long as somehow you mention i was a small help to the video in some way, that's all i ask.

Are you genisto+ Question to all, if you have seen the tokushin video, i believe this first board,(1-1) is a possible way of improving genisto's video because instead of running to the turtle, it jumps on it, and jumping full speed is fasting then running full speed.next, I already thought of making my own video, but as me and michael fried already agreed on speedruns.org(i post there quite a bit), what would be the point of taking weeks or months,(it would take me that long). to improve maybe a second or 2 in an 11 minute video, its much easier for the maker just to fix a few boards then for me to start a video from scratch. And im not asking for anything big just the video be called like Genisto+ABT or GenistoABT. something like that, not even that, maybe just at the end say thanks to ABT for a few improvements to the video or something very small. I feel thats fair enough.

No, I'm not Genisto. Also, "just fixing a few boards" isn't as easy as you think. Changing something in the movie requires replaying everything that comes after that, because the game will react differently starting from the change. Ps: Paragraph breaks would have made your message a lot more comprehensible. Now I just read a sentence here and there because I didn't want to dive into that big lump of text. And no, jumping full speed is not horizontally any faster than running full speed. The vector speed (sqrt(dx² + dy²)) is greater indeed when you add vertical movement, but you're not going to complete the level any faster whether you jump or not.

Well if you can find 2 seconds worth of improvements then it's probably worth making a new version, but I doubt all the mistakes would even add up to half a second. Edit: Also, giving credit to everyone who gave you ideas wouldn't be practical. Then every video would have to give credit to every person who made a previous version for the same game since people usually watch videos and learn strategies from them before making improvements on them. They would also have to give credit to everyone who gave them any ideas, and for a game like LoZ which has a 22 page topic about it discussing strategies, this would be way too hard. At the nesvideos forums, video game strategies are sort of like public domain. They don't belong to anyone, anyone can use them without having to give credit, and strategies are shared without getting anything in return. If you don't want other people to use your strategies in their videos, then keep them a secret and make your own video, but most of us are willing to share strategies.

Are you interested in improving your video? i dont know your user name on this site, but if yes, I will have no problem, if no then I will probably begin a video for smb3 but it will take a while before its done. (Many months).

And no, jumping full speed is not horizontally any faster than running full speed. Umm, If you have seen Morimoto's video, you realize in many boards he runs full speed instead of jumping full speed like michael's video does. A prefect example is, board 1-1, Put Morimoto's video next to Michael Fried's video, and you'll realize Michael jumps twice at the end of the bored instead of running for a while, the jumping effect gets to the star faster then running to it. BTW Mr. Biskwit, if you didn't realize all games are different, for example jumping full speed is the same speed or faster than running full speed in smb3j, yet in super mario world, jumping is slower than running full speed. See Bisquit you don't realize something, synergy goes farther than one person doing it alone. Thats why I am offering to help Genisto out, instead of trying to ''Beat'' him or his records. Anyways I like smb3j and If i see possible improvements I don't understand why you get all pissed off ''Biz'', If this whole thing is about setting a record instead of working together to make the ''perfect video'', then I might as well just go ahead and make a video 1 frame faster than Genisto's and go crazy because I set a record!No im here to be friendly and work as a team to obtain the goal of a perfect smb3 run. Thank You.

What was the idea for getting the powerup sooner? Was it getting the mushroom in 1-2 instead of 1-3?

Oh wow. Wouldn't this be awesome if you could program a real robot instead? Set it up to use an NES advantage controller or something if the size issue is trouble. Moving a joystick would probably be easier than using the d-pad for a robot anyway. And then you could feed the FMV data to the robot, and have it played on a real NES.

Emulators aren't perfect. Such a situation would quite often desync due to variations between how an emulator works and how the console works. It's the same reason most movies desync if you try to port them between emulators or between emulator versions.

Not to mention the lag produced by the time it'd take for the real-life robot's hands/fingers to move...he'd prob'ly desync 2 or 3 button presses into the recording...LOL =P EDIT: WTF? This post is the most recent one, and finishes off page 5, yet the topic gives links to 6 pages...when I click on 6, it says "No posts exist for this topic." o_O EDIT 2: Well go figure, page 6 link just disappeared. Even more bizarre...

Actually that idea I had might actually work. I decided to touch the backs of each box at the end of the levels since Mario starts walking when he touches the box and I thought that would make him reach the end of the screen faster and somehow save time, but since I was too lazy to do a proper test I didn't know for sure, but if touching the front of the box is really faster then my strategy might save time.

Running and jumping is the same speed as just running in Super Mario World. (Not to mention flying properly also produces the same speed.)

I don't know about running, but I'm pretty sure that flying, if done correctly, is slightly faster than running. I think I remember testing it in the YI2 and I was able to beat my record by flying with a cape.

Ok, here is a perfect example, look at any good smb3 video such as morimoto's michael frieds or genistos, they all jump on the clouds, in 1-1 (296 time units remaining on the clock). But a bad video for 1-1 is Johnasstrandman, It might be because he runs on the clouds, im not sure if thats it, but if your realize all of the faster videos choose to jump on the clouds, and the slower 1-1 videos choose to run the clouds. If I do find out, that it saves time to jump on certain things instead of running, this video opens itself to many improvments.

"Exposes all flying secret houses" I don't know if it's been brough up but on the movies page the description of Tokushin's SMB3 video says it exposes all of the houses but it doesn't. There's one for level 2-2. But now that I think about it he was playing the Japanese version and I've only played the US version, maybe that was added later,

they all jump on the clouds The only purpose of jumping on the clouds is to get more coins. Jonas Strandman just wasn't such a good movie maker, but the slowness of his video had nothing to do with running on the clouds, that just made it less fancy.

i founf a new glitch unknown in board 1!!!!!!!! it helps in no way though, i think. its at the pipe before the goal, i was going full speed and i think i ran backwards through it or something, all it does is bring you through it.

That happens to me a lot, especially in the fortress. Its also easier to do it there, since you can clearly see where the tiles seperate. As for the whole running vs jumping thing, they are both the same speed, and the timer slows down the same amount for both as long as the P is flashing. The most practical reason why you would jump onto the clouds is to avoid all the obstacles on the ground, which can be tricky, especially in a speedrun. And I believe that the fastest 1-1 can be finished with is 294, unless there's some kind of shortcut I don't know about.

to sleepz, yes the best time possible is 294, regardless of anything. I think it's possible to improve genistos board 1, but I don't have that much time and I am not good with videos, so I don't know if I;ll make a video even if I do find an improvment.
