well, you can't shroom over those light starting blocks, but if you can shroom around them to longboost, it'd work.

I found that you can select toad faster than koopa; just press left once. Or if you must be koopa press left then up, faster than right three times. Also be sure to select special cup with up, not down three times. Same thing for 150cc selection.

For rerun he'll be mario on mushroom cup, then possibly switch to toad for the other cups.

[Somewhat off topic] Can this thread please be renamed to "Super Mario Kart" instead of "I have an idea for a mario kart TAS"? [/Somewhat off topic] Now, to be more "on topic", I watched the "full WIP" yesterday and all I have to say is this: Wow. Can't wait for the new strategy to be used, and can't wait for the next WIPs! This is going to be a great TAS, that's for sure. Keep up the great work!

Hey Zod, can get my name on the GP site for KB flap of 3.75 using one mushroom? It's in the wip. Or you should at least tell the GP comunity about this trick I found so they can lower the flap time.
I dont see where is the wip of this 3"75. Anyway tricks and glitches are forbidden on the site except special ones, where you only make the trick at last lap (or for flap) when you can cross the line in the air (without involving lakitu or a fall) so that almost the entire run stays clean. But those special tricks only figure in the shortcut tricks fields and dont count for the rankings. More details in the rules and techniques pages of the site. For the pause trick, i will test if it can help to get better items in the normal game. Btw your 90% first tas video of smk is very nice, i think you should finish it as soon as possible , then you will have a reason to perfect it in a second tas run.

This is totally different from the MM3 second controller. In MM3 the second controller is used for cheat codes that enable moon jump and stop time. I've seen runs here use everything in a game except for codes that cheat. You can use any glitch, any bug, any code that enables a higher difficulty level, and maybe codes that handicap you. But cheat codes is where the line is drawn. If a glitch is too boring, like clipping in LttP, then there will just be two types of runs. But specific to Mario Kart, I think this one should be allowed. It's a code, but it's not cheating, just swapping P1 and P2. And I think it's very clever that duffjr thought of it. I don't see what the problem is. The map is still on the top so the entertainment value of the map isn't lost. And it's still just one player, no second player sitting still. According to Zurreco, this trick is "tasteless". What does that mean? Would it be tasteless to max out the message speed in a RPG? As far as obsoleting a run goes it should take more than this. You couldn't add this trick to an existing run get away with it. But I don't think it should be a banned strategy for future runs.

I think this trick is tasteless in the sense that it does not add entertainment, but arguably detracts from it. That's an opinion, though, so a decent comparison would be if a fighting game had a "2P input" trick that made each opponent start at 75% health. Each fight would be faster (though I know that that's not exactly the aim of fighting game submissions), but the viewers are essentially getting cheated out of what could theoretically be some very interesting and entertaining methods to tack away that extra 25%.

http://smkgp150cc.free.fr/kb1sc.wmv not sure if we can accept this trick for the site, its more a SC than a trick , but anyway it would be hard to put a rule that would make a wise limit between being a trick and being a SC , so its better not to accept those big water cut near the line i reckon we also have abusing strats with ci2, ci1 ,and kb2 laps so maybe we can accept it , if it doesnt involve going outer limit (inner limit is ok like kb2 , so the inner deep water of kb1 should be ok providing you can bounce on it and not fall in the water )

http://www6.ocn.ne.jp/~neka/movie/e11_nokobi1.mpg i proposed that making the cut where the question mark lies should be ok since it's such a large water cut and doesn't abuse the lapskip. (you can probably hit this 1/10 on the snes, but it might be faster with a star shroom combo). we could add that shroom/feather trick to KB1 SC, which would be similar to CI1, CI2, KB2 SC that involve feathers around the finish line. but any trick that involves falling off the track or lakitu helping you out shouldn't be included or part of a glitch ranking.

Sounds like fair game to me, it's a programmer oversight rather than an intended cheat. People might not like it though, and it makes it impossible to compare with the official real-time records. I wouldn't use it for that reason.

Maybe I'm stupid, but I can't find anywhere in the FAQs a page that says tricks and glitches are forbidden. Could you give me a link to that specific page where it says glitches are forbidden?

we use it for the real records. we also use 2 players because pipes and thwomps come in 2 instead of 4. http://membres.lycos.fr/bunga/vids/Nico_MC1_49-90_sf.avi

Wow, I wonder why I've never seen those feather shortcuts on GV3 and RR before. That was terrific.

I was thinking for RR you shouldn't fall of on lap2 and have that be a full lap. Reason, you'll get to keep those two coins you would have lost for the second full lap. The way you did the last lap of VL2 was a good how you landed in the wall. This should be used on VL1 too of course. Do you think hitting the wall in some way, probably not the same as the last lap, could be good for lap 3 too so you dont' go so wide after landing? For the last lap, I wonder if you could use a little sharper angle and not have to go so wide too. Also, it looked you had to turn on the gas for a little bit to cross the line, I wonder if you could hit the wall and then instintly cross the line.

I doubt it, as hitting the wall (on the way down in a jump) slows you down a lot, and it takes ages to regain that speed.

Well, I was turning as much as I possibly could, I think.
