Then a 3 category should be made for this game. 50, 100 and 150cc.

I dont see why making a 50cc or 100cc run. Just the 150cc is enough.

It's sort of making a game on the hardest difficulty. Why make it on easy aswell? And maybe more middle steps such as normal, harder, revenge of the even harderer and finally the already mentioned hardest. I also thinks that 150cc should be enough.

You ónly have to beat all 4 cups in 100cc to get 150cc, no need for 50cc. But it still will be pretty boring to repeat this 4 cups in 150cc again so I agree with Walker to start from a savestate which should be a exception for this game. You can get red shells, stars and mushrooms even if you are 1st. I played this game a lot in the past and can confirm that. And I managed to overlap the 2nd place driver in 150cc myself WITHOUT tools on real console a couple of times in Ghost Valley 1 using the mushroom pretty often to make this great flying shortcut, and got him in the final lap. So at least in this course this shouldn't be a problem.

I remember that it was a 200cc to if you complete everything on every cc. That could be fun to watch =)

It only goes to 150cc. 200cc would have been cool though ;)

One of the reasons that a TAS hasn't been done for this game is because even though it is a good game it wouldn't be that interesting to watch. I disagree. If someone made a good TAS for this game it would be one of the best movies on the site. I think the main reason no one has done it is, as others have said, because it's so hard to optimize. Also, I think it would be worth having a TAS for both time trials and Mario GP. Michael should definitely do this TAS ^_^ Since he is a great player of this game, I don't think he would rerecord his run that much. Go M.Fried! I'm ok at this game, maybe average skill, but not nearly as good as I am at MK64. The Mario Circuit 1 world record is 57.88 and I think my Mario Circuit 1 time, which is probably my best time, is about 1:02, so that's not so great. Making a good TAS for this game would require a lot of knowledge about the game physics, which I definitely don't have. Awhile ago I tried save stating before every turn in Mario Circuit 1 and slowed the game down a little, and all I could manage was about 1:00.5, so I'm clearly not the person who should be making a TAS for this game.

It's been a long time since I played this game, but couldn't you cut a lot with the feather? So, a GP race would be better than one for time trial?

GP all the way, the complexity added from having other racers only increases the entertainment factor.

Heh.. *Had planned to do this myself :P * I think that a 100cc would be better instead of loading a save state..IMO.. I think i might to be able to find some neat tricks.. to make it entertaining.. Like.. one i seen.. If you can time it right, you can drive backwards :O! If you full tilt into the wall,( as i read somewhere) you can drive backwards. that would be cool.

Can you really have a star when you're in 1st in GP? I can't remember ever getting that.. Oh well, like someone said, many times the feather is what you'll opt for. (Just remember that you can't get it on MC and DP tracks.) Also, many tracks have spots where items can be placed for fail-safe CPU spin-outs. This has the potential to be very entertaining. Something I'd also like to see done, as a novelty, is a cup completion with an 8th place ranking. Andreas

I thought I had it in my smkvideos folder but I can't find it now. If you ask about it on the SMK forum, maybe someone will have it and can send it to you. Edit: Never mind, I just found it, so I'll upload it when I get a chance.

I assume whoever decides to do this run will use all shortcuts in order to even make it more entertaining.

You guys knows this game is filled with wonderful glitches or super shortcuts right? In some stages you can do three laps in a matter of a few seconds! I have seen videos of this. But I can't find them any more. I will check if my brother can dig those ones up because they are really sweet.

Fried, are you referring to Hue Lee's run. I've seen that once. It would just be neat to do it on Special Cup, or you could play around with the point distribution, such as most even set, or biggest blowout win, etc. (My biggest victory margin is 24 points, for 45, 21, 21. I've had that a few times on Mushroom Cup.) Andreas

The following tracks have some type of shortcut or beneficial route. I'm sure I know all/most of them. (I think a select few may only be possible on NTSC because of jump distances.) DP1, GV1, BC1, CI1, GV2, (DP2 not sure), BC2, KB1, CI2, VL1, BC3, MC4 DP3, KB2, GV3, VL2, RR I'm not going to do a strategy breakdown unless I know a run is in the pipeline. Andreas

I don't understand that table. What do "GV, MC, DP, CI, VL, etc..." mean? Am I right in understanding you can never ever get a star on the first lap or when you're in 1st place, but you can get a mushroom?

Yes, that is correct. The different track names are there to specify that you can't get a feather on MC and DP courses, as I mentioned earlier. Andreas

So.. this might be better(in some point) to fall back to 5th to get a star.. Unless a Feather path can rule over it.
