Gym 5 was defeated tonight. Won't be posting an update quite yet - the challenge of making this run is all downhill from here (not to mention I'll be fighting the last three gym leaders in quick succession), and I'll probably wait until I finish all 8 gyms before I post a new update. Though, to give you a little sneak preview, I just discovered something while fighting Koga, the 5th gym leader - a Lv43 Weezing knows Selfdestruct. I'll leave it up to you to fill in the blanks ;)

Can Selfdestruct miss (withoit using Fly or Dig)? And btw Tilus, how much faster is your run now compared to your testrun?

Absolutely! Any offensive attack can miss, even if it's only a 1/256 chance. However, Blastoise is faster than the Weezing, so I don't manipulate a miss in that manner. =P And, I'm now up to 1min 54sec (114 seconds) faster than the test run.

Progress report~ Thanks to the map of the Silph Co tower that was posted earlier in the thread, although I didn't get Earthquake, I did find a new route through the building which is both a shorter walking distance and avoids a trainer battle, saving a good minute or more. However, it seems that avoiding this trainer battle has thrown a huge monkey wrench into the run, as all of a sudden I'm not able to one hit a bunch of Pokemon anymore, and I'm losing turns against the test run right and left.. and by the looks of it it could even offset the gains I gained with my new route! o_O So, I'm trying something a little different, and taking a different route through this section of the game by beating the Gyms out of order (Abandoned Mansion-Gym 7-Silph Co Tower-Gym 6 instead of Silph Co Tower-Gym 6-Abandoned Mansion-Gym 7 as in the test run). So yeah. the next update may not come for a little while..

Would you like me to scan more of the walkthrough I have (which is very thorough)? It could help or atleast ease a bit your TASmaking.

Sure, go ahead. The things I could use maps of are: - Saffron City gym (Gym 6) - Chances are the path in the test run is the optimal path, but you may never know.. - Abandoned Mansion - Victory Road

I asume Abandoned Mansion is the one in Cinnabar Island? Btw, I presume you aren't finnish so I'll have to translate the texts for you. Am I correct? (Although it would be polite to translate them anyway since I know for sure that some of the readers aren't finnish) EDIT: I just noticed that the walkthough doesn't include pictures of Saffron Gym. It only tells you to beat up everyone you meet until you find Sabrina. But that obviously isn't the way in TASes. The Mansion in Cinnabar Island and the Victory Road I do can scan for you.

Nope, I'm not Finnish. So yeah, you'd probably have to translate text.. The maps are really the most important, though.

Here is the map of Pokemon Mansion. I might reduce the size of the picture so if you wan't to have a bigger picture, save this one to your hardrive. I'll make the map of the Victory Road some other day (tomorrow or day after that) since I'm kinda exhausted and I believe Tilus won't need it so fast. (If you do, inform me and I'll make it tomorrow.) EDIT: fixed the link

It contains the Finnish text "Missä ihmeessä?", which means "Where?" with some emphasis.

I fixed the Pokemon Mansion map quite a lot and here is the new version. I fixed the dropplace arrows. There was a typo and the numbers were reversed (checked my self. thx for Bisqwit for sending me his saves). I also marked where you drop from the arrows and marked the other doors which will be there when you push a switch. For those who didn't know, when you press any switch, the doors in the mansion will be switched so that every door that was open will be closed and visa versa. I still kept the older map if someone wanted to see that (for some weird reason), but I'll most likely take it away after a while. EDIT: fixed the link

Don't worry, just finished that section of the game. The map only confirmed the fact that the path in the testrun is the optimal one. I don't expect any changes out of Victory Road, either. I was most curious about the Saffron Gym teleporter layout, really (and I doubt there's a way to make it to Sabrina's room in less than 3 teleport trips anyways.)

I scanned the Victory Road map but I didn't translate them because I think there isn't anything important on the texts. And it's the map Tilus wanted. If you really want me to translate them, just ask me. EDIT: fixed the link

Does the starter Pokémon ever get unruly? Cause..It doesn't seem like it does. I was thinking about trying a game using Bulbasaur as my Starter. I'll be checking back here every so often for an answer, hehe. ;3

Unruly? You mean like disobeying you? That actually only happens to Pokeymon that you got from another trainer, although the game doesn't make that clear. You could fix that with badges or luck manipulation anyway.

Thanks! ^^ If all goes well with Bulbasaur, I'll make a Movie of it once I get good enough. I'll try it with only Bulbasaur and Squirtle, since Charmander would just be a really bad choice due to the first two gyms. I'm going to watch the Pokémon Blue run now, hehe. Finally got a good MKV Player. ;3

It wouldn't neccesarily be bad, just in need of more luck manipulation then the other two.

But luck manipulation won't make up for type disadvantages, will it?

Yes it will. Look at the current movie. Luck manipulation: -Can cause any move to hit and critical -Can cause any opponent's move to miss, even if it's a never-miss move like swift As long as you can do damage you can beat anything in a TAS.
