Great! I wonder how much time that saves? More importantly, I wonder what would happen if you tried a similar trick on Professor Oak right at the start. Any idea what happens when you go into battle with no pokémon?

Probably something like what's seen in the dokokashira trick. What about "Mr. Mewtwo/Missingno. Generator"? Would he qualify as the same type of repellent and the Pewter City and Cycling Road guards, thus allowing you to skip the minute or so sidetrack for Oak's Parcel (and coincidentally also save 2 frames for each time you would go to the item menu for the entire game, and possibly also not have to go through the Pokedex data screens for each of the captures)?

Well the screen turns white for a second and you win the fight.

Wow! That could add up to a HUGE timesaver! You could push through the game for a while like that - The incredibly annoying Trainer Bridge in Cerulean, Cerulean Gym, S.S. Anne, keep going for a while after that without catching anything. I suppose eventually it would be best to catch Mew as the Cut slave, and well as Fly. I'm gonna fiddle with the Oak meeting and see if anything can happen. EDIT: Nothing yet, however, I did remember another glitch, and I've finally put up a .vbm (note: It's still labeled "Oak Skip"). It's the hard reset bug, which is what happens when you turn off the power when it tells you not to. It seems as if you have no pokémon, but you do. Mosly they lack useable attacks, but on is a Charizard with crazy-high attack power, 0 defense power, and Megapunch and Vicegrip. This glitch may or may not be useful, who knows? http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1566567875/Pokemon%20RedOakskip.vbm

well, when you have no pokemon, you cant cathc any pokemon, because any random encounter is like a battle and immediatly fades out and in. no battle there. your only chance would be like picking up eevee (only pkmn i know besides the starters that you can pick up just like that; lapras seems to be kinda out of the way) though im still wondering what would happen if you battle your rival after you picked up a pokemon. which pokemon would he have or would the game crash? I found out about all this stuff by using a xploder code which gives you an item called ?????. you can use it near water and it acts like surfing on a pokemon, though no badge is required. with this thing I looked around a lil bit in the pokemon world EDIT: whooooooooooooops BIIIIG sorry here people. I ixed this up with pokemon g/s, if you dont own a pokemon there the fight is skipped. in pokemon red/blue there appears this glitchy pokemon. damnit sorry people for getting your hopes up *ashamed*

A bad thing that this would cause would be the elite 4? I used the walkthrough walls code and got to elite 4 by walking all the way from pallet town to indigo plateau by walking towards cinnabar island. When i got to the elite 4 building by somehow skipping the badge people, I couldnt beat the elite 4 and got stuck in loreelais room with no pokemn to escape with. Ahem Phallosvogel, You forgot the old ember and the other fossils.

Amazing. Absolutely amazing. I wonder why it only works if you use B to close the final dialog. Very strange indeed, but I'm not complaining. This also implies a route change in Veridian Forest. It's no longer necessary to fight the first trainer, because I don't need Ember so quickly (the Gym would be impossible without it). This causes an additional round of attacks on the second trainer in Veridian forest, 3 additional rounds on the first Caterpie and Route 3, and 2 additional attacks on the first Weedle. At that point, Charmader learns Ember, and all is good. This also may alieviate the need to fight the Lass and travel back to Pewter, although I'm uncertain of that. My guess is that either way Charmander will be level 13 after the Mt. Moon Lass, but if there is a level difference, doing the Lass trick would be worthwhile. I'll be working on a new WIP asap.

well how do you want to get to cinnabar island w/o a pokemon able to surf or a pkmn to faint for this safari-zone-hover-glitch?

Why are we discussing a glitch that doesn't even work (without hard reset)? Something that might actually be worthwhile investigating is if Lance from the Elite Four could be skipped. I've always had a suspicion that this could be possible, but was never able to find anything (the B-Start glitch that hanzou used doesn't work either). If he could be skipped, this would also skip the final Rival battle, which is a double bonus. It's worth noting that you can use Surf to go through the statues in his room.

I don't know how you could get a new pokemon, wel besides Togepi. And I don't know what a fight looks like if you only have an egg

So, how exactly is this done? I can't seem to get the file to work (save error or something).

When you talk with the Youngster who leads you to the Gym, if you close the last dialog with the B button (A does not work, for some reason), you will be able to open the start menu before he leads you there (although, you won't be able to move the pointer, so you need to have it at Save beforehand). Then, save, and restart. Afterwards, the game will think he's already lead you there, and he'll come back, and you'll have the conversation again. This time, let him lead you. Through the save process, his position gets messed up, and when you come back to Route 3, he won't be standing where he should be, but rather 5 or so tiles to the north. If you walk through the tile where he normally stands, you can continue on to Route 3 without being stopped. EDIT: Also, be sure to do your shopping beforehand, because entering a building resets his position.

Thomaz, my guess is that you were running VBA v20 instead of v19. I recently took the time to update my pokemon glitches page. primo's description is pretty clear, but in case it helps here is a step-by-step description with screenshots. By the way, I never got around to congratulating you on your excellent Pokemon Blue speedrun. Great job and good luck if you intend to make another.

Thanks for the explanation guys. This is one amazing glitch that I just GOT to implement in my run. =D Although, I'm pretty much half way through taping the new run, but I'll just start over again. =D Thanks, hanzou, I appreciate that. ^_^ Edit: I've been going through the new route and I think it would be best to trigger a Pokemon in Mt.Moon, but I'm not sure which one, Gyarados, Gengar or Nidoqueen. Gyarados has a few problems with power but the others are harder to catch and take longer.

Brock and Giovanni are skipped. Anyway. There's some dillema I'm having right now. Skipping Brock means I'm at a pretty low level (level 14 just before Mt.Moon), beating the entire Nugget Bridge + Mt.Moon guys is pretty difficult (only viable with more saves). Now, I was thinking about glitching either Gyarados, Gengar or Nidoqueen. Both Gengar and Nidoqueen will be at level 100 so the trainers won't be much of a problem, however, they only have 15 PP for a 'quick' move. That's not a big problem, but it adds up. Gyarados will need a Potion after catching (I'd catch the others without damaging them) and will have a little more trouble with the fights, but he's easier and faster to glitch. It's pretty darn hard to reach the Rocket without using a save inbetween, but it's possible. Combining the chance that you'll catch Gyarados or the the 100s + walking that entire part after activating the glitch means I'd probably have to settle with one extra random battle. All in all, I just wonder what's faster. Doing it with Charmander (and Charmeleon during Nugget Bridge) or with one of the other three guys. Also, because triggering Meowth to get a Mew is hard enough so I'll stick to Slowpoke/Shellder, but Horsea is annoying because I don't think Charmeleon is really that strong because of the missing levels (and I don't have Bide) and money for Potions is out of the question. I tried the part up and with Nugget Bridge to compare that time with my old time (without saving, just testing) and I was about 2 minutes faster and that's with substracting the random battles. Help please? =(

well, if your afraid of being a low level from skipping brock, pick something that can tear through the stuff before you get your lv100 pokemon Charmeleon isnt that good of a choice cause mt. moon > him, I'm doing a glitched playthrough on my GBA, so far i'm at vermillion with HM01 (cut), but which badge lets you use cut? o.o if you were able to skip the oak's parcel bit you could make even more time (is this even possible?) Getting the lv100 poke asap is important, use Nidoqueen cause she has good attack and mediocre special, so she can use quite a bit of moves (by the way how do you do the EXP underflow glitch?)
