Wouldn't it be quicker just to do it on the first trainer after the Oaks Parcel pickup? You're going to get sent to you're house regardless, but this way you'd actually teleport to somewhere you want to be. In this case choosing Bulbasaur might be best as it could loose the first battle quickly (the exp and money are no longer needed) and be a cut slave.
That and Squirtle doesn't get Growl; it gets Tail Whip instead. Does damage heal immediately after the first battle? If not, you could just let both Pokemon critical each other to low health in the first battle, but win so that Pikachu can finish you off quickly anyway (if you're planning on using Pikachu even without a Squirtle start; note that Charmander is lower than Bulbasaur in both defense and special, and doesn't resist Thundershock; it's also susceptible to being poisoned if you go the alternate route of fighting Weedle instead of Pikachu, though 1HP per turn is unlikely to overcome the weak damage of Poison Sting compared to Thundershock, or Caterpie's Tackle).
Better yet, does the Pikachu fight serve as immediate manipulation? Level 5 Pikachu -> 10 special -> back to Viridian Forest -> profit?
Where are we picking up the poké ball to use with the trainer-fly glitch? It might be better to use the Viridian City pokécenter and do the trainer-fly-warp after delivering Oak's Parcel. That way, we actually have poké balls when we perform the glitch.

That, and how would you even get to Viridian Forest without Oak's Parcel? Mr. "I'm So Tough I Make Level 132 Mewtwos Appear On an Island Far Away, So Don't Even Think About Passing Me" would be in the way.
Hmm. I experimented earlier with this, fainting from poison directly in front of a trainer (result, teleported directly without triggering the glitch). I'll experiment with this as well.
On the cartridge, I'm sure a lot of players have had the experience of fighting a random battle right when a trainer would normally walk up and battle. For this you don't even need to be at a full half-screen distance as is required with trainer/fly.
Fainting from the random battle doesn't disable your start button nor activate any other obvious glitch though. And if you win the random battle, the trainer just walks up and battles like normal.
If I'm misunderstanding and it's something else you've done on an actual GameBoy, how about you make a vbm and post it here?
Well, the only part I've had happen on console was the random battle part. The rest was a guess based on incorrect knowledge of what would happen if you fainted in battle (That has never happened to me).
Here's another thought, though: Faint from poison in front of a trainer you can trainer-fly against normally. Then you'll have an opportunity to use the glitch when normally you couldn't.
He's referring to the guy who wants coffee. Level 132 Mewtwos appear if your name is DDDDDDD and you talk to him then fly to Cinnabar Island and surf along the right side.
Actually DDDDDDD only gets level 131 Mewtwo. The 132 comment was in reference to the default name RED, which is certainly the most common name that's been used to get Mewtwo out of the deal.
About deathwarping purely for position: How many Escape Ropes does the current path call for? Without death, you'd have P4661 after beating Brock, which gets you 8 Escape Ropes and 1 Poke Ball, or 7 and 4 (though you'd really only get 7 and 2). 8-1 is advantaged only if there's an 8th Escape Rope spot that's going to be hit and that saves more time than it takes to go through an item discovery scene, provided that there's a hidden Poke Ball directly on path by the time you need it, or more time than it takes to go to the Sell screen and sell off Brock's TM34 to make 8-3 affordable. If you deathwarp, you'll have only P3023 at that point, meaning you'll be limited to 4 Escape Ropes, or 5 if it saves more time to find a hidden Poke Ball or sell the TM. With the recent improvements, 8 seems to be clear overkill...but is 4 or 5 sufficient?
Is it worth it to deathwarp back to to Viridian City after delivering Oak's Parcel without using any glitches?
That walk takes 20 seconds, not much compared to the time it would take to heal at a pokemon center plus another battle where you have to take several hits.
Deathwarping would save more time than it would take to teach Dig to Charmander. However, this also takes one more menu layer per warp.
The warp would save ~35 seconds of walking and cost ~15 seconds of fighting upfront (counting a short deteur into the pokémon center).

Where are you getting these time estimates? Watch a movie such as primo's and you can see the time it takes to walk from the first patch of grass all to the Viridian pokemon center is only 20 seconds.
And the time it takes to enter, exit, and heal your pokemon at a pokemon center alone is more than 15 seconds. That leaves 5 seconds for the theoretical battle, so it's a no-go.
Wouldn't you just warp from Viridian to Palet, as then you wouldn't need to heal? Or does the time saved by ledge jumps exceed the time it takes to heal?
Edit: What about Chamale's old idea of fighting the trainer to the right of Pewter for extra money?
Yes... IIRC, no one's ever done testing as to whether it's faster to beat that 2-pokémon trainer and walk back to the mart as compared to beating the 4-pokémon trainer. If the deathwarp adds anything, then it looks even better.

First, yes, this would make a lot more sense than healing Veridian, and then death warping back there. However, there are no Weedles (or any enemies with poison) on route 1 (the Nidorans don't have poison at that level either), so the only option would be to fight a random encounter, and die slowly. Overhead for a random encounter is around 1500 frames (just counting starting and finishing). Each round of attacks adds about 600 frames. Assuming something around three rounds of attacks to die, this would take an estimated 3300 frames; around 55 seconds. Walking back is quite a bit faster. There might be other places where this could be a possibility, however.

Which trainer? The first fightable trainers after the first rival battle are the second rival battle on Route 22, and the Bug Catchers in Veridian Forest.

I honestly have no idea what you're talking about.

The current route calls for 5:
1. Mt. Moon for Gyarados glitching.
2. From Bill's house back to the Poké Center.
3. Saffron Gym
4. Cinnibar Mansion
5. Cinnibar Gym
The difference of three is due to the following changes:
- Teleport will be used to warp back to Cerulean. I believe that this is faster than having to use Cut twice before and after the Gym.
- Silph Co. Office Building will be skipped.
- Picking up the Surf TM in Safari Zone will be skipped.

There's a spot where you can go and fight a trainer with two pokemon, or one with four. Unfortunately, going to fight the trainer with two pokemon moves him right into the path, making you either fight the trainer with 4 as well, or backtrack to a building.
Here's an idea: How about saving the game then restarting it to move the trainer back into position?

You don't have to backtrack to a building. You just have to go back until you load Pewter.
When running Pokemon Yellow, I tested this, and it is faster to fight the trainer with 4, considering that I have a L100 Nidoking.
Sorry, you're wrong. It is in fact faster to fight the trainer with Rattata and Nidoran, then backtrack to the outskirts of Pewter, and then advance again. Here's an unoptimized test run, which is at least 2.5 seconds faster despite the fact that Charmander takes a hit from Nidoran.
Rattata can be OHKO'd with Ember, but Nidoran has health of 1E and max damage with Ember is just 1C.

Hey guys, I have a few questions.
I've tried the Walk-through-Walls glitch but I can't get it to work. :S
This is what I do (I used Pokemon Blue though, but I have Red also):
1. Heal in Viridian City;
2. Enter and leave Safari Zone, then say 'No';
3. Save and reset;
4. Leave Safari Zone;
5. Fly (with level 100 Mew) to Pewter City and engage the Bug Catcher with 4 Pokemon (doesn't really matter which guy, as long as they can poison me);
6. Get Poisoned and wait for Poison to lower my HP drastically (I use Thunder Wave to waste turns);
7. Fly to Viridian City and proceed to count the steps thanks to Poison;
8. On the 500th step, I hop over the ledge (lol, was about to say Fence) and I'm teleported back to the Safari Zone;
9. I make Mew faint by walking inside the Safari Entrance and I'm teleported back to Viridian City.
10. And nothing really happens. =(
Could it be game or name dependant?
Also, how exactly do you perform the Snorlax skip? I've tried pretty much everything (especially in Yellow where's more random stuff), I even bought Pokemon Red (the other one broke) again just for this.
Plox halp. ^__^
And to stay on topic, how's the run doing?
