I'm MAKING one of those movies. :p
And I still think that people who are going to watch this shouldn't be told that our "best movies" are necessarily only the ones that are around 20 minutes long. We've got brilliant movies which are longer, as well, and we should keep in mind that we're shoving forward what we think are the best movies. We shouldn't be paranoid about the fact nobody will download longer movies. Even if they see some long movies on screen, at worst, they'll think "Hmm, that's too long." and try a different one instead.
You're mistaken, they both had stars, then Bisqwit was trying to remove some of the recommended to lighten the clutter.

You are mistaken, they did not both have stars at first. BC had a star, which was lost to UK, and after "arguing" (discussion), BC was also given its own star. I am aware of what happened, as I made the first comment about the situation in this forum, and my input was directly involved.

I agree. To clarify, I am saying that the shorter SMW run is more fitting for a star than the longer SMW run, but not simply because it's the shorter run. This being said, the length of the Final Fantasy or SMRPG runs shouldn't automatically make them bad.

I just noticed that Flagitious' A Link to the Past movie doesn't have a star. Is there any reason for this? It got 55 yes votes and the game is very popular.
Still no star for the ALttP movie. :( Can you name just a single thing that's bad about the movie? It obviously can't be poor game choice because many people consider it to be the best game of all time.
While I'm flattered that you choice my run over flag's, I don't think my run deserves a star, and I'd rather see the star over flag's complete run instead.

Er, hey all. Sorry if I'm somewhat out of place in this thread, as I'm pretty new to the site (first discovered it about a week ago, while looking for Chrono Trigger translation tools, oddly enough) and most of you seem to have seen damn near every movie on the site. But I thought maybe I could lend a bit of perspective on what this particular newbie feels.
The first video I saw that really blew me away, and what really got me into tool assisted runs as opposed to speedruns (I used to follow Doom and Quake speedruns a few years back), was the two-in-one Megaman X and X2 run. I'd almost suggest that someone try a for a newspost on Slashdot Games (and various other sites) about that run if you're looking to grow the scene, as that's one of the coolest things I've ever seen.
After that I looked for runs that seemed either very short, or unusually unique and impressive, or else were of games that I'm familiar with. Of the non-starred videos I've seen, the most impressive ones were probably NES Dragon Warrior and SNES Super Bomberman 2. Like so many other children of the 80's, I got Dragon Warrior free with my subscription to Nintendo Power. And like most 8-year-olds who played the game, I was never able to beat it. The luck manipulation happening in that video is just absolutely stunning, and I have to say that it's really gratifying seeing someone finally not just beat the game, but kick the holy crap out of it. The Bomberman video is really cool because the player always seems to be five steps ahead of the viewer, and it just really shows a lot of finesse, even knowing the demo was tool-assisted. Also, whoever recorded it has a great sense of humor.
In terms of videos that are already starred, I agree with someone earlier who said a with-warps version of the Arkanoid video would be better. I got the sense from the description that it was quite an accomplishment and would be cool to watch, but I can't say I want to see fifteen minutes of it. The Excitebike video was fun to watch, the jumps were really impressive. Hitler No Fukkatsu looks interesting, and I might pick it up later, but I really can't decide whether that Japanese Nazi version of the game is intriguing or off-putting. Lord knows I can't show it to my Jewish girlfriend. The NES Zelda, Mario, and Metroid runs were less than enticing only because I've seen numerous speedruns of those games before and I can't imagine the tool assisted versions are that much cooler.
The really short SNES Zelda and the NES Megaman 2 were both something of a letdown, because I'm much more interested in seeing someone perfect-play and luck-manipulate a game than just glitch it. I know I'm in the minority here, but that's just how I feel about it - glitching makes it seem like you're not actually beating the game, just beating the programmers. The Megaman 2 video was more enjoyable, at least, because the ways the player gained access to the glitch were pretty ingenious.
I have to say that I'm not very interested in Umihara Kawase just because I've never heard of the game before, and I think it would feel a bit like watching a sport on TV that you don't know the rules to. Only fun insofar as it's utterly bewildering. I should also point out that both Umihara Kawase and Rygar have far, far fewer downloads than any other game on the starred list (Hitler No Fukkatsu is also an underperformer, probably because it's under the J name).
The short SNES Super Mario World and the NES Gradius were both cool as hell, just watched 'em.
So, er, that's my take on things, if it's at all helpful. Hope I'm not overstepping my bounds here.

Well said. I have a friend that feels the same way about super glitches that finish the game way too fast. He is intersted in seeing the game completed flawlessly, instead of just the shortest path to ending. When i like the game, i want to see both. When i don't i just want to see the shortest path to ending.
About the arkanoid video, i suggested getting the CPU play glitch to work which warps to the last levels (not using the A+START cheat). I even tried some and i almost had success but still not quite. I will try more someday.

Why not? You get to kill Adolf Hitler in the end. As a young Jewish boy I found that to be extremely satisfying.

I admit my nomination of the short Zelda movie may have been a bad one. I was too much caught up in the moment with it to really think straight on that one. I still like it for what it does, though.
A hundred years from now, they will gaze upon my work and marvel at my skills but never know my name. And that will be good enough for me.
I just want to chime in, I agree with everyone that thinks the Zelda 3 TAS is least deserving of a star. Most deserving that don't have one IMHO would be Lost Vikings 1 and then Secret of Evermore. I think the reasons why they don't have a star respectively are Gens not supporting 3-player recording yet and the SoE being 100% instead of any%.
I should also point out that both Umihara Kawase and Rygar have far, far fewer downloads than any other game on the starred list (Hitler No Fukkatsu is also an underperformer, probably because it's under the J name).
The downloads shown on the main movie screen can be a somewhat unreliable comparison to how popular the movie is, because when a movie is obsoleted, the count resets. Either that, or only 19 people have ever downloaded a Super Mario 2 run.

Why did the short version of ALttP get a star? I wasn't aware that anyone even voted for it. Maybe it was a misunderstanding since the people who supported giving a star for snes zelda weren't specific to the version. I push for giving the star to the full version by flagitious.

That is true, but Umihara Kawase has been up for many months and still hasn't passed the 1000 mark. Comparing this to other starred runs that have received several thousand downloads in much less time, it does say something about its popularity among viewers. A case of a good game with a small audience.

This crime on humanity is, of course, due to the fact that it has no "quirky Japanese" hipster cred like Katamari Damacy. =( (and don't tell me that it was never released in the US; that never stopped SD3, FF5, ToP, SO1, etc in the age of emulators)
Offtopic: I want to punch someone every time I hear KD is underrated.
Rygar is a game that is full of glitches used to their full potential, and it has a star.
I would say Battletoads fits in this same category. What does everyone think about one of the Battletoads runs having a star?
EDIT: I'd personally vote for the 2-player run by FODA without warps.

I'd like to add to this that regardless if there are movies that are more deserving of a star, it's at least fair that the long version movie gets the star of the short version. It much more suits the prerequisites, mainly because I doubt the occasional viewer would really be interested in a minute-long glitchfest.

I also agree to the fact that if a short one has a star, the long version should have too...
Though occasional viewers may also be interested to see that some Well-known games have huge glitches that allow to finish the game in a few minutes...
However I guess that it depends of the viewers... When i first came here I was impressed to see how well the games are played... Though seeing some glitches impressed me as well (the Zelda 3 glitch is somehow impressive)...
The best movies are those that run through the whole game while using glitches to skip some parts (NES Morimoto's and finalfighter's Megaman 2 run is the best example)...
And if a long version gets a star, should a short version gets one too???? (I mean OgreSlayeR's GBA Circle of the Moon run long version got a star, so should his short and glitchful version get a star too???)
