Ain't it for Master system? I don't think Master system has re-recording just yet. But I think it has been discussed in another thread.

My apologies, I thought that there was a modded version of chasms out there that could do it?

I haven't even seen chasms with recording support.

Well I think freezeSMS could be a good thing to use to record the SMS game speedrun videos, Freeze Software http://freezesms.emuunlim.com/ And it is a pretty good SMS emulator. And well you can always use a screen recording software to make it into an avi with sound and all.

Shoulden't there be support for SMS in the new Gens version? Wonder when they'll release it?

Good news for you, a speedrun of this game will be submitted to SDA very shortly so we'll probably see it online a few weeks from now.

As far as I know, there are a few people over SDA who are working on this game so I really dont think it should take that long before it will be done and encoded.

Well not 'technically' a GBA game, it's possible to do a TAS on this as shown by Xebra with his WB II run. I might concider doing this as it's one of my favorite games ever. DR. SMS seems to emulate this game better than WB II from what I've played. The sound isn't nearly as bad. I'll probably work on a test run soon and try to figure out much money I'll need and if I can manipulate spells and max gold off enemies. I wouldn't get my hopes up though, as who knows if it will accepted. I guess wait and see what happens to Xebra's run.

I support you in this operation. I totally suck at the game though, so I will be of no technical help, just the usual "yeah !" reply. I just want to see the game beaten soooooooo bad.

Prelude is done. Download DrSMS 6.00 here and patch Wonder Boy 3 - The Dragon's Trap(UE) [!].sms to play it. I'm going to try to figure out the RNG for this game. Any help on that would be appreciated. If I can manipulate the spells I want and get Max gold off monsters, it should speed the run up a lot. Edit: Fixed mistake.

yeah ! neat, it has potential, as expected. of course, OgreSlayeR meant that you should patch the "Wonder Boy 3 - The Dragon's Trap (UE) [!]" rom, not wb2 (check xebra's topic about a run on this game). it does not look perfect but but it's a pretty good job, it totally ignores the annoying momentum human players get on this game and blazes through enemies at a pretty decent speed.

I love this game, but I doubt that it will translate into a good TAS. It's quite long, and nothing much happens for long stretches some time. As I assume you know, you usually have to equip new armor (or collect insane amounts of stones) to be able to buy the next set of equipment, so a lot of money is required. You can fly with the pirahna man by alternating between left and right quickly. Maybe some shortcut is possible, for example getting the legendary equipment early. I'm not sure, since it's hard to perform on a console. That's all I've got. I wish this could be done on a real SMS emulator, the graphics are mangled and misaligned with Dr. SMS. :(

First boss dead. I abused the boomerang a bunch as it rocks against normal enemies I've found. I could of killed the first boss quicker if had more arrows. I'm not sure if I can manipulate items easy. I tried for a bit and didn't have luck. Oh well, I'll fool with it later. If I can figure out how to get the magic I want I'll have to spend less time farming money for equipment I think. An annoying thing about this game is there are a lot of situations that cause you to delay or you get hit. There are quite a few of these already.

I managed to do that trick with the Pirahna to reach the Ruined Castle. I'm having a problem trying to manipulate stones off enemies though. I think the game decides on all the drops when you enter the screen. Perhaps I'll have to delay some frames before I enter the next screen to get what I want...

Two bosses down now. Apparently I might not need any stones as equipping the Legendary Armor lets me buy the Shield (and I assume the rest of the items from the shop). The Zombie Dragon boss takes a long time to kill. If I can actually get Arrows when I want them it will speed up the first two boss fights tremendously. I also just remembered I can pick up items with the Boomerangs so that would probably save time picking up stuff from enemies. Can anyone help figure out how to manipulate items in this game?

I don't know this particular game very well, but Wonderboy in Monster World is it's sequel and probably has similar (or even same) RNG. This is what I know about the Genesis version: Manipulation is difficult because nothing seems to affect anything, except time. So the manipulation gets a special meaning here: You need to plan where to waste time for item drops in relation to the future encounters. The clock of randomness is ticking from the beginning, so if you need to wait 10 frames for an important spell drop, you can waste those 10 frames at any time before that situation. Hitting enemies with a weapon caused some changes in other enemies' movements nearby. If I'm right, it did not affect the item drops. There may be a technique for predicting every item drop, but that's out of my league. --- EDIT: Wow. This is tough. Time seems to have no meaning here, so it's even worse than the Genesis game. The worst thing is that taking damage affects the drops which makes health management quite complicated. I'm afraid you can't get the drops you would like to.

You should buy the armor first thing as the dragon, equip it (this increases charisma, just like stones) and then the sword. Doing more damage will probably help on the mummy boss. So the legendary equipment sequence break worked. Sweet! You can skip collecting any stones. If you also skip buying the shield (since you are not going to get hurt often), this means you won't have to gather any money after the mecha dragon... at all! We should get a password with all the stuff and compare the stats with each weapon for each character really... but for most situations, the Legendary sword should do. You get a small boost in the opposite direction when blocking with your shield. You blocked some projectiles you didn't need to block and missed to block some that could have boosted you forward.

Thanks noted. It's been awhile I don't remember, but the mouse man can't equip the legendary sword right? I recall you have to use him in the final dungeon. Maybe It won't matter either way though, because I might not need to use him long enough for it to matter. It's nice that money and stones aren't a big issue now. I guess I'll want boomerangs and especially arrows to speed up those first two long boss fights.

As I recall, Mouseman's role in the final dungeon is very very small. Really it was all Lionman, with a room or two of Hawkman

Well, I just got the thunder sword which you need to break blocks. I was able to do that fly glitch with the piranha man while in the lava which allowed me fly above all the lava and hence skip having to wear the heat resistant dragon armor, so that was nice. I'm guessing I'll be able to own the next Dragon very easily as I have the best sword in the game. Edit: Pirate Dragon dead. Legendary sword at this point is FTW. Three hit kill on the boss is nice.
