Two day ago I decided to take a timeattack at Final Fantasy 2 remake. I am currently planning how to beat game fastly. Also I will first record a "stupid" movie, which only shows how to beat game, and then the real timeattack. If you know any information that may help, please post. I don't know nothing of this game and I never beated it. Current progress of the "stupid" movie is in Bafsk in 34 minutes. This should be twice smaller, I guess. http://free-zd.htnet.hr/crocop/dawnofsouls.zip (It is recorded with this VBA(from forums), and the rom is Final Fantasy I & II - Dawn of Souls (U).

I haven't watched your video, but keep in mind two things: 1. Aside from the Blood Sword, your bare hands are probably your strongest weapon ever. 2. Abuse the levelling system. A lot.
someone is out there who will like you. take off your mask so they can find you faster. I support the new Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-kun.

Really? I read somewhere that to make a strong party, you should equip Firion with swords, that girl with spears, Guy with Axes, and the last guy with swords.
2. Abuse the levelling system. A lot.
Any advice how to do that?

I say that from playing the GBA version.. yes, you need one or possibly two people who can use swords so you can use the Blood Sword later, but I remember getting fed up with weapon levels and de-equipping everyone, then accidentally one-shotting a boss. Generally barehand attacks of equivalent level with weapon attacks around where I have a save to test (= tower of mysidia) are maybe 2x as srong, but before that they went up to 10x... because the barehand attacks are strong independent of weapon strengh, obviously, so they get a lot stronger a lot faster especially if you maintain levels.

I believe Leon/Lionheart/whatever they named the fourth guy you named, once he rejoins your party, will have pretty high sword weapon levels.. You probably won't be able to get much out of Blood Swords until he joins anyways, so you may want to stick with bare hands with everyone except him and then let him use the blood sword.

Also consider abusing the Ancient Sword. Instant curse on most bosses, causing them to go down quick.
A hundred years from now, they will gaze upon my work and marvel at my skills but never know my name. And that will be good enough for me.

Did they remove one of the Blood Swords in the GBA version? You used to be able to get it once you could enter the castle at Fynn.

This strategy really works. I can get to Scott's ring and get back in 8 minutes with bare hands. But if I only knew how to avoid random battles, I could make it in 5 minutes then. Here's the new one

A little update. I got to Salamand in 38 min. By the current looks, the timeattack will be long about 3 hours, it is a BIG game. Tell me what you think of the progress. http://free-zd.htnet.hr/crocop/ff2dos.rar EDIT: Oh, and if someone knows how to beat boss seargent fast, please tell me beacuse i lost about 4 minutes fighting him.

Do note that barehanded attacks are affected more by a character's Strength than anything. So try your hardest to luck manipulate Strength gains every battle.
Signature under contruction, still.

A question out of curiousity: Why not the original FF2 on NES?

Because there's shinier graphics here! And because the tweaked the game a bit to try to make it better. Sadly, it lacks the awesome CG scene from Origins. :(

Nice necrobump there. And also, if the DoS version was played, then people might actually know what the hell is going on before the animation happens.

Would it be worth it to level toad to 16 simply to pick up 4 masamunes for your characters at the snowfield?

if u can do it quickly enough. but you dont even get the Tome until Phin Castle AFTER visiting the Arena (unless its a drop, but im in a rush). so it would be somewhat long in the tooth. as well, why not grab the Genji equipment?

I always though the Toad tome could be purchased in Mysidia. I suppose I was wrong. They can drop off sorcerer enemies, but I suppose there's no way to encounter those early in the game..

Toad tomes are indeed sold in Mysidia and you can get to Mysidia as soon as you get canoe (and Min-Wu of course). EDIT: And I suppose you can build your characters in the Peninsula of Power II just south of Altair. Dunno if it's worth it though.. Only if there was a way to manipulate random encounters :( Oh, and Boco, Blood Sword is still in game.

? where? the magic shop from left to right is: -fire, thunder, blizzard, cure -cure, blink, protect, shell -barrier, wall, swap, holy -life, sap, warp, teleport -fear, basuna, esuna, silence or does the shop list change at a certain point (im going by a completed game file). EDIT: it wasnt there at the beginning either (bless walk through walls... if only it was availible for everything). EDIT 2: and it wasnt there with MingWu either.

Eh, sorry ^^ I should have checked it beforehand. Didn't find it there as well. My apologies. So Castle Fynn is probably your earliest bet if you plan using Toad-spell (it's located in some chest but probably it's best to get one from Magicians). I haven't found a way to manipulate any random battles (as in when you want to encounter them or not) but there is a way to manipulate the monsters you fight (as in which monsters and how many of them) by going to menu and returning. Dunno if it helps though.

When I looked for it in Fynn in my GBA version I didn't find it...

there are 2 (NES): -in Phin Basement -in Paul's secret stash before the whirlwind (or after, its been a while). however, in the GBA port, they replaced the Basement one with a Power Staff. if there is another place they put it or something along those lines, id like to know about it as well.

As far as I know, Paul's secret stash is the only place where you can get one. And yeah, it was before whirlwind.
