Game Description

Straight up stolen from a wiki, because I never watched the cutscenes and I'm too lazy~ "Dora and Swiper travel around the world. They go to France, Tanzania, Russia and China. Dora needs to pass out friendship bracelets that Swiper took from around the world. Once all the bracelets are passed out the sky will light up. Each country has their own "Swiper" that they need to stop from stealing bracelets."

Glitches (and other stuff) in the TAS

There is only one glitch used in this run, which does not save nor waste time. By timing my movement in the autoscrollers correctly (frame perfect), I can go into objects. What happens is as soon as you pass the object, you can not move. Exactly one frame before you can not move, you can go into the object. Doing it a frame too early, Dora will work as intended; just stop, which wastes time.
I don't think this is a glitch, but for some reason, the hitboxes of when you select items in the mini games are REALLY weird. One time I'm selecting a completely different item than what I'm supposed to select and still selected the one I'm supposed to select. By abusing the hitboxes I can save time over RTA. It's not too weird, it's just that they feel a little...awkward when you're doing a TAS.
The RNG list? Empty. No, I'm serious. Literally nothing is RNG. Not even the mini games where you need to pay attention to fake Swiper's movement and select the correct item. On top of that, this mini game right here appears 3 times, and they all have the EXACT same pattern, always. Pretty creative! Right?
Russia is a autoscroll/mini game only place, no walking. Why am I mentioning this? Because the mini game with getting the correct person looks as if I intentionally wasted time. Truly, I didn't. What happens here is apparently the lag frames are really...common here. Basically, every other frame is a lag frame which ends up in it looking like I wasted time. Truly, I didn't really waste time. The game just doesn't like this mini-game. Shame...
Speaking of lag frames, after Russia, while going to China, pressing up in this autoscroller produces lag. Meaning that I have to input as low "up" inputs as I could.
One final thing I would like to note is that because I'm ending input early, RTA Timing is 3 seconds slower than the WR. If I did not end early and decided to end like in normal RTA Timing, I would however be about 13 seconds faster than WR.
Aims...?
  • Aims for fastest time, that's it.

Why did you make it in the first place? Just why?

So...long ish story (not really). On a random day, I was bored as heck, and decided to do a run of a short game I haven't ever played. After a hour looking, I decided to go with this, Dora the Explorer - Dora's World Adventure. I got a time of about 16:30. Many months later, I touched the game again, to go for a better time. I might go for a better time, as I'm still second-to-last place (better than last) sooner or later, and probably will. I noticed how the WR's comment said "FINALLY sub 12:20. Can I retire from this game now?" and while thinking about it some day, I thought about something. What exactly is the best time one could ever get if they are being EXTREMELY precise? Like, pixel perfect precise? And then I started to make this TAS.
The game was slightly harder to optimize than I thought it would be, but I still managed to finish it in a...day. Actually, 8 or so hours. Not the hardest I've worked for a TAS (still a lot more work than that "Pacifist" run I did in SMW), but I still decided to take my time. Could of finished it in a hour if I wanted to. As stupid as it may sound, the hardest part for me was actually in France with the balloons. Their hitbox really was weird, and I kept noticing flaws. For a simple 30 seconds mini game I took far more time than I should have.

So... I want to admit I actually sort of like this game after TASing it despite the fact I hated it yesterday... I am officially a 4 years old little girl
The above information does not apply anymore because I hate the game again. Thank God. I will still go for RTA WR some day, though.

Thanks to eBloodyCandy

For having a sub 12:20 run making me curious what the best possible time. I'm actually surprised the TAS is over 10 seconds faster than RTA WR, for such a simple game. Had he not done so many attempts on sub 12:20, I would not have done this TAS. And this is why I want to thank to him.

Samsara: Judging, will replace the file when I wake up or something idk.
Samsara: Autoscroller, minigame that's basically half cutscene, autoscroller, minigame that's nothing more than "choose a thing", autoscroller, autoscroller...
There isn't enough actual game here to warrant publication. Rejecting due to the trivial nature of the game.

After watching it thoroughly. I vote no for entertainment and for being published. Most of the sections of the game didn't seem like they could be sped up any faster than they could be, there was autoscrollers, and when the things that could move at your own pace showed up it was like 5% of the movie.

Uhhh... This game seems to have little speedrunning value, if any. Voting No for bad game choice.

Following the trend of No, this isn't entertaining, with only a small amount dedicated to not autoscrollers or minigames. I don't know if we classify this TAS as My Little Pony or Postman Pat. Edit: And it fell into My Little Pony. Congratulations on the Rejection!

Tried watching it, but Dora never stops staring right at you except when facing the complete opposite direction (not often enough). Dora the Rubbernecker more like it. Also, terrible game choice. No vote.

The forums have spoken. My question is, why does this horrible game exist? Would any child even enjoy playing this? All you do is collect things, and that is already super boring. Even an actual 4 years old child could probably complete the game in under 13 minutes if they tried. This game is clearly bad. Well at least I now know what the best possible time ever is. Makes me wonder, who pressed yes? DansGame

I'm actually moderately amused by this. I wouldn't watch it again, but it had bits that made me chuckle on one watch. For instance, I'm amazed the collision detection is pretty much nonexistent in the vehicle autoscrollers. (I do wish you had managed to move to the music at one point there.) It's actually strangely funny how incredibly easy the puzzles are, like that basket minigame where you see the critter's feet. And I think this should qualify for Vault since people have, in fact, competed for the WR time on it. Good job on a pretty bad game, CatlyNat. I'm not voting Yes, but I will vote Meh; the game does entertain well enough for its intended purpose.
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. if it's speedrunnable, then it should be accepted, but i'm not sure about that
I want all good TAS inside TASvideos, it's my motto. TAS i'm interested: Megaman series, specially the RPGs! Where is the mmbn1 all chips TAS we deserve? Where is the Command Mission TAS? i'm slowly moving away from TASing fighting games for speed, maybe it's time to start finding some entertainment value in TASing.

I would have done it if two conditions met; if I had a little more control of the vehicles, and if I actually thought of doing it. Would have tried if I thought of doing it, I used to try it a lot in RTA ending up in me bumping and then wasting 2 seconds ;~; @Everyone Thanks for the feedback~ Really makes me realize I should focus on another TAS, instead of wasting my time on such garbage game. Eh, the game was fun while it lasted. I'm done with this. Though my RTA PB is flat 12:30 not sub so I still have some stuff to do >_< man I need to run good games.

The game can be shitty, just so long as there is more variety and visible challenge in playing it. This game is too simplistic and straightforward to really garner much interest. Also heavy glitch abuse can overcome many such handicaps. I would imagine this could still be vaulted so long as the TASing wasn't sloppy. That's all up the the judges though.

http://www.mediafire.com/download/4zyq9ojrb2o0515/GBA+DTE-DWA+TAS+ANY%25.zip Improved the TAS by 2 frames (I went back and checked for lag frames. Oh look, pressing up in one of the autoscroller wastes time so I have to be careful pressing up >_>) Also SLIGHTLY changed the Ski Autoscroller. Probably won't be noticed. I didn't know where to upload the zip, or where to even say this, because I'm still a Noob, but could the input file be replaced? ._. Also recorded a new video for the 2 small frames being saved lol

And this, my friend, is why you don't spend your time doing TASes of games for 4 years old little girls. Makes me wonder, did anyone even buy the game? DansGame ...I'm going to go focus on Astro Boy again. At least he doesn't suck. One final thing message. Dear Dora Luss, This letter has been arrived from Belgium, written by the ugliest woman on Earth named (redacted). The letter said: "I would like to say that you are even uglier than me, and I hope no one will run this game again. The fact someone other than me ran the game in June 2016 is shocking either way. Please delete your game from existence. Never will I touch your game again." Written on 30/6/16 21:34. This is an automated e-mail. Please do not reply to this. My next appearance on this site other than lurky lurk lurk or voting will be in a year when I actually submit a good TAS. 'Till then 4Head
