This will be pretty sweet, I'm looking forward to it. I forget, is there an upgrade in the secret area? If so, maybe you can just beat Strong Arm and get it without killing all the enemies in the secret area. Are you going to take hits this time through? There will probably be more spots where you can save time by taking hits in a 100% run.

The answers are No, and No. There are no upgrades in the secret area. Therefore, I'm just going to run to the boss, kill the boss, and get out of there. And no, I'm not going to take hits. Even though it mays seem like it could be faster, it's not. Getting hit in IoG is slow, since your character gets throw back a little and stops running. Also, I've made it a personal goal to do a no-damage run once again. Anyways .. that's not why I wanted to post tonight. Here we go with the news. I'VE DONE IT! IT'S DONE! You can go here to see the first official WIP of the 100% Illusion of Gaia run. It goes up to the shortly before Edward's Castle and collects all THREE red jewels. I wanted to post this one early, with nothing much done, because of the incredible feeling I have (and some of you will have too). This feeling is HAPINESS! I'VE DONE IT! I have gotten the third red jewel from that damn fisherman! It may be unpleasant for some, but I had to enter/leave a house (Lance's House) to make the "counter" increment artificially. Also, I had to wait a little before entering the Secret Cave. The "counter" thing is all explained in ealier posts by myself. I have included a file named "My notes.txt". I put some notes and comments in this file that may interest some of you. I put in there all the small things I find and do. ENJOY! Progress on this run won't stop progressing now ... it won't stop. Here's the link: http://halamantariel.homeip.net/speedruns/ Rom name and version: Illusion of Gaia (U) [!].smc Feel free to post any comments or suggestions about the current progress.

I hate double-posting... but since nobody replied and I have something to say, I kind of have no choice. I'm posting today to ask anyone for "help". There are a few things that you can do to help me progress in the 100% TAS. 1) Find bugs in the game. 2) Give me ideas of what I can do to entertain you while I have to wait (example: Edward's Prison, Secret Door in Larai Cliff) For the bugs in the game, I haven't found many of them. All the ones I found were abused in the any% run, and they were not big ones. I remember someone talking about a bug in Great Wall which involved doors and Psycho Spin, but I never saw it executed and never really understood what to do to recreate it. So what I'm asking is for help from anyone who is willing to, to find some bugs, record movies of those and post them here, so that I can recreate them later on. One that I would really like to see is that "fabled" Great Wall Psycho Spin Door Entering glitch (PLEASE give it a name! :)) Thanks in advance for any help/ideas. You'll be rewarded with a special thanks in my run description and a Wookie Life Debt, but I'm not a Wookie.

I’d like to help, but there’s probably not much I can do. > 1) Find bugs in the game. The game didn’t feel buggy when I tried it briefly before accepting the published movie. Finding bugs in this game would require some devotion which I completely lack. > 2) Give me ideas of what I can do to entertain you while I have to wait (example: Edward's Prison, Secret Door in Larai Cliff) In the prison, my idea would be: play the role. In the published movie, it looks, at least in the beginning, like the hero does some flexibility training to utilize his time well. This is good. Only when the bread arrived, he turned mad. Admittedly there’s quite little one can do in a prison cell like that, but one of the things one would probably do is to search the walls to see if they can give an inspiration of method of escape. Of course, knowing the game you already know how the hero will escape, but I am talking about playing the role.

!!! UPDATE !!! The current progress goes up to the re-visit of South Cape. This means that the Underground Tunnel (Dungeon 1) is completed! You can read the "My notes.txt" file on my webpage to get more information on the tricks used, the new things discovered, etc. Here's the link: http://halamantariel.homeip.net/speedruns/ Rom name and version: Illusion of Gaia (U) [!].smc Feel free to post any comments or suggestions about the current progress. -- EDIT: Added a few notes in the "My notes.txt" file. I added an explanation for the ultra-fast running in Edward's Castle and a comment on Edward's Castle revisit.

Wow, looks great so far. I like the Telekinesis while running bug and the After-hit invincibility bug. The second one looks good for a Speedrun and I think it will save a lot of time. I have first saw the WIP and wonder me about both tricks how they work. Then I have read the notes. Great tricks. One other thing wonder me at the beginning, now I found out how it work. That you run so fast after speak with the girl in the castle. You just speak with the soldier and he push you so fast to the right. Great trick too.

!!! UPDATE !!! The current progress goes up to right after the Castoth Fight. That's right: Larai Cliff, dungeon #2, is completed! Since I now have a file where I write down anything I could write down when posting an update, I won't post big update messages. I'll leave you the pleasure of reading the file I wrote just for you guys.

I hate double-posting, but I need some help... I'm having some major problems with my router. It works like half the time ... If someone could mirror my latest movie and "my notes.txt", that would be great. You could zip these 2 files together and put them up somewhere. HUGE thanks to anyone who mirrors my files. I wouldn't ask for this unless I really needed to. My router just sucks right now. I'm contacting Linksys tech. support so that they can send me a replacement router (still on warranty). I'll keep you posted on this situation.

Here you go Halamantariel. I hope your router problem is resolved soon. I know how annoying it is when the damn things crap out on you. My router messes with me all the time, it likes to cut out when I'm in the middle of something. All of a sudden I just lose my connection and can't get it back for 5-10 minutes. Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing this run. I haven't watched any of the WIPS yet because I don't want to spoil anything. My curiousity is peaked though so I'm probably going to say "screw spoiling it" and watch your current WIP. Good luck with the rest of the run!

!!! UPDATE !!! It has been a while since the last update, but it was worth the wait. Trust me. Current progress goes up to Seaside Tunnel. That's right. I've done Diamond Mine, Sky Garden AND Mu. It's all done and perfected. I've never re-recorded that much for a game. I'm really devoted to making this perfect. You'll notice that after I get Psycho Slider it sometimes look sloppy when I hit-and-run enemies. This is because I can't use the hit-while-running bug, so I have to stop, hit, then start running again. You might have some questions about some parts of the current WIP, so feel free to post them here. However, you could also wait a few days, for when I will have updated the "My Notes.txt" file, which should answer most, if not all questions. Wow, it doesn't seem like getting all treasures will set this run back far at all. Everything looks very smooth, but you know what I think about not taking hits. I do have a question about item management, why don't you drop all the herbs and load up the inventory with red jewels? In at least one of the towns you are bound to run close by Gem and you could give him the entire load to avoid releasing each one individually.

Wow, looks great. I first wonder me about 2 parts. But I made a SaveState and try these out and now I understand why you do it like it show in the movie. 1. After you get the purify stone (not sure about the name). And after the next Red Juwel you get, you wait a bit before leave the room. But the enemies will hit you and throw you back into the room with the chest. 2. In Mu you don't open one chest. Its empty, so useless. So all looks great and perfect to this point.

I finished updating the "My Notes.txt" file. I finished it before reading your post, and I had already included explanations for both your concerns.

Each time I select a red jewel from the inventory and use it, I spend 45 frames. Going out of my way to give all red jewels to Gem would spend ... I don't know ... but a lot more than 45 frames * the amount of red jewels I have. Plus, I'm not tossing away herbs. The point of collecting them is to keep them 'till the end.

Very nice. I've never played this game and yet this run managed to keep me entertained for the hour (+few mins) it played. Good job there. I guess I'll have to take a look at the any% run now.

I know this run is "100%" but... this run only collects all herbs and red jewels..? I know red jewels are the point but why all the herbs as well? Why not just make a run with real "100%" where you kill all the enemies to get your attack, def and life to max AND collect all red jewels.. I don't think collecting herbs has any point. :T Just my opinion. Oh, and the run looks good so far, just one question. About the two vampires. Can you just kill one of em so they don't get to use their twin attack, that makes you lose some frames (the vampires are invurnerable when they do it)?

As I have said in many previous posts, not killing all enemies doesn't matter because when I defeat a boss, I get all the upgrades that I should have gotten before that boss. This means that I DO collect all upgrades that I would get for fighting enemies. Also, 100% means 100%. You get EVERYTHING, including herbs. I know they are pointless, but they count in the 100%.

As I have said in "My Notes.txt", alternating between the two vampires was a lot faster than any other possibility. I have tested everything I could think of in this fight and this turned out to be the fastest way, mostly because the "preparation" for this attack brings the female vampire really close to me and she stays there for a long time, enough for me to kill her.

I'm currently in Watermia (first visit). Progress has been ultra-slow recently because I don't have much spare time. Things are pretty rough at school and takes all my time. When I have some spare time I usually take it for sleeping. I'll post the next WIP after beating the crap out of Sandworm. I think I've figured out its "patterns" so it would be a little easier to manipulate it. I expect this to be around 2 weeks from now. Hopefully.

I remember someone saying something vague about a bug in China's Great Wall where you could enter a door while in the air after a psycho spin. Since I'm actually in China's Great Wall right now, I'd really like to know HOW to do this. Can someone try to replicate this (verify if it's true)? You can get the current progress and a savestate right at the point where I would like to use this bug (if it exists at all). I want to use it on the first door we encouter. Same URL as usual: http://halamantariel.homeip.net/speedruns/ Please let me know as soon as possible if you can recreate that rumored bug.

I thought you actually needed the Spin Dash to do it. Like, Will actually has to be spinning to get the "catch the door while in passing" glitch to work. Or I could be wrong.

I really don't know ... in fact I know nothing about that bug ... only what that person said in page 5 or 6 I think of this thread. Anyways I decided not to use it since I don't know how to. I'm currently near Sand Fanger, and I expect to post an update in the next few days, or early next week at most. EDIT: Oh and I'm currently investigating on a possibly faster alternate route for China's Great Wall. The difference comes right after Freedan kills the enemy he has to kill. Instead of continuing, he would go back, jump down to where Will got Spin Dash, change back to Will, and then Will would continue the adventure. Doing this, I would completly skip the room before Sand Fanger, not needing to go down two staircases and not needing to fight 6 statues that turn into monsters. As I've said, I'm inverstigating this ... so I have to test both ways. EDIT2: Let's forget about that route-change ... I just found out Freedan can NOT change back to Will in the Dark Space where Will got the Spin Dash ... that's a shame ...

I need your help guys! You can find a savestate right at the beginning of the Sand Fanger fight in my homepage (http://halamantariel.homeip.net/speedruns/). As in my previous run, I hate that boss, and can't find a way to manipulate it. I'm asking for help from anyone who wishes to, to find out anything that would be useful to manipulating it efficiently. I need that help .. I want to kick that boss's ass! :)

Sorry to hear that boss is still a bitch... oh well. We have a lot of skilled people here than can rip apart the game and figure out every little bit of code. I'm sure the answer will come swiftly. I'll see what I can manage to figure out but action games aren't really my strong point when it comes to manipulation.
